kidtri33 - 2012-08-31 10:53 AM 1:40 this morning on a surpsingly warm and humid day. I was suppose to do 2:00 but I ran out of water and my heart rate stayed up after about 1:10. I had to walk a couple of up hills to get it down. Legs really felt heavy today. I didn't feel light on my feet at all. I will probably do the other 20 tonight and then do some good stretching afterwards.

Hopefully it will cool down tonight. We're getting spoiled in CT.  High 50s at Night, High 70s during the day and low humidity.

I am not posting my month end numbers, they are so low. Embarassed Sept. will be better.

I squeezed in my run for yesterday at 9pm last night. It was awesome out. Humid but temp not too high with slight breeze. I stewed over something that happened at work, and by the time I was done running I had worked through all my anger. So that was good.

I also performed minor surgery on my two big toe nails last night. I bruised both really bad at Vineman, and there was no saving them. So my toes look really gross right now. I'll have to cover with bandaids until I can paint them.

I don't know why I bruised them so bad. I think the shoes I wore were a little too short, even though they were the same size and model as my prior pair, which were just fine. They just feel shorter???

Let's see, you took 2 full weeks off in August post-IM.  I don't think there's any isse with your numbers.

Forecast is 77 and sunny for race day next Sunday.  If we could get that up into the 80s, then it would be perfect!

That is why I do this sport.  I seem to burn out all my frustrations for the day during my training sessions.

Take care of those toes!  That sounds painful, Karen.

77 is good.  You want to go fast, you're going to go faster with cooler temps.

Just found out dove season starts here this weekend.  Should make for an entertaining ride with lots of very large trucks on the road.

People eat dove?  Pass on that.

**edited to add that I googled it and apparently people do eat dove.  It sounds like eating squirrel to me, like it just shouldn't be eaten.

Serious question here......I have only worn the full sleeved wetsuit once this summer.  This is only because it was so hot in July. Afterwards my shoulders, lats, arms, etc. were extremely sore and tired.  They were sore the next day as well.  I'm very comfortable in the sleeveless suit.  Full felt comfy but I was tired.  So...should I suffer through with the full?  Wear the sleeveless due to comfort level?  I'd really like to nail this swim, and I'm concerned that wearing the full will make me slower (only because I've never worn it in a race before).  It's only 2000 meters.

Opinions?

While the full is faster (slightly), I feel the same way and the full sleeve makes me feel like I'm pulling bubbles on my arms through the water.  The difference is small.  Go with the suit you feel the most comfortable in.

Do you know how close to Louisiana I am?  I have a friend with a squirrel and turtle stew recipe.

Good morning!

Hard bike this morning then a hard run tonight.  Otherwise I'm working on a brief, which is not so much fun.  Our fiscal year ends September 30, so this is never a fun month.

Hope your weather is better than ours was last week. Rain and storms every day, even a water spout. Even lost power in our hotel.

I talked to my mother-in-law on the phone this morning about the stupid family pictures we have to take on Monday morning, and she was really negative about the whole IM business.  She doesn't think I'll be able to balance all the training with my kids and their activities.  I really need family to be positive about the whole thing because it makes me feel better about my own doubts.  She affected me, and now I feel like I made the wrong choice.  My husband told me to blow it off.  He said not to care about what anyone else says and that she may be right, but the only way I'll ever know if I can swing it all is to try.  Super bummed out right now.

Jen people do it.  Lots of people.  Women with no kids, two kids, ten kids.  I don't know why your MIL thinks this is some impossibility.

I know.  I am a stay-at-home mom, and I am with them ALL day long.  I give them tons of love, attention, and quality time.  I volunteer for their activities, and I never miss parties, parent's night, etc.  I read to them, talk to them, and play with them.  I would feel torn if I weren't able to give them so much of myself on a daily basis, but I am fortunate in that I am able to be with them all day.  The only time I am away from them is when I am training or racing (85% of which is done before they are even up!).  I don't care what she thinks.  I've decided.  They're not all that involved in our lives, so my question is why is she starting to get involved now?

Because people by nature are judgemental and she probably doesn't approve of how you choose to spend your free time.  Who the hell cares really as long as you and your husband are on the same page.

Jessie Donovan has three kids and works full time at UVM.  She just won the women's pro race at both IMLP and IMMT -- I may have to introduce you two.

Its all about what your priorities are and doing what's best for you.  You're on board and your husband is on board, that's all that matters.
