another finish line(s) however you want to count it... I did the swim meet for Corporate Challenge today- didn't do as well as I would have liked, but here's how it went...  We could choose 4 events out of 8, so I chose to do the 200 free, 100 free, 50 free and 50 back...

200 free - this was the first event, I had hardly warmed up, but I went out there and swam - there were only 2 of us in my AG, so I knew I had guaranteed Silver, so I just swam to finish - My time was 4:31:49 which didn't beat last years time hmmm

100 free - This got all messed up because my teammate & I missed the sign-up announcement... so we were write-ins... I went to see the lane assignments and the lady hadn't even written my name down when I noticed that I was in the 1st heat... I went out to the pool, and the 1st heat had already started! I looked at the volunteer - she looked at me, and again, I knew that there were only 2 in my AG, so I just said, I'm going, and jumped in and swam - I never had such a good swim in my life!  I felt like a dolphin out there...I was real upset because I didn't think I'd get my time, but it turns out the volunteer timed me manually - my time 1:50:50...

50 free - I made sure I was in the right place at the right time and registered correctly this time - I was trying to swim as fast as I could... then I realized that my form was all wrong, but I was almost finished - oh well, there's always next year...

50 back - last year after my non-success at the breast stroke, I decided to try back stroke - turns out nobody in my Age Group did the breast stroke, and I was the only one to sign up for Back Stroke - so all I needed to do was finish, and I got my first GOLD medal in 3 years of Corporate Challenge

2009 times
200 yd free: 4:22:70 (placed 2nd of 2)
100 yd free: 2:01:30 (placed 2nd of 2)
50 yd free: 50:84 (placed 2nd of 4)
50 yd breast: 1:00:70  (placed 5th of 5)

2010 times
200 free 4:31:49 (2nd of 2)
100 free 1:50:50 (2nd of 2)
50 free 54:86 (2nd of 2)
50 back 1:03:20 (1st of 1)

bummer Bryan, is it like the NY Marathon, where you can only get rejected a certain number of times, then you're automatically in?

Hey all!!

Diane - congrats on the race.  Had to laugh on the "Just jumped in.."

LRR - Bummer about Kona.

Bike checked in (wow a sea of bikes), lake water doesn't look too choppy (but that looks like a long a$$ way to swim!).  In the hotel, of course they are charging me for everything they can.  Sure they would tax the toilets if they could.  Up tomorrow at 4am so off to bed soon.  Later!

Awesome job Gary.  It was fun watching your progress on the website.  Way to get that finish line.

Billy, I don't know your bib number so I was not able to follow you.

You guys did awesome.  Can't wait to read about the race.  Rest up and eat something really high in calories, really bad for you, and really fattening.

When is the next race?????

Well, I was trying to get my official times on the relay but I guess I am to stupid to find them.  I will give it my best shot based on what a buddy told me on the phone.
The name of our team was "two old farts and a hottie"  You will understand when you look at the pictures!

Swimmer, David Alexander, 58 and some seconds
Bike, me, 2:47:some seconds (average speed, 23 mph)
Run, Jessica Stewart), 2:47:some seconds

We were very pleased with our results, only problem was that I really, really, really wished I had signed up for the whole thing.  I was very jealous of Gary when I watched him cross the finish line.  I will post some pictures if I can figure it out.

Made a mistake on my numbers, ride time was 2:46 and some seconds (avg speed was 20.3 mph), sorry for the misinformation.

Hey!

Just stopping back in.  At work today someone sent out an email about my finishing the 70.3.  Lots of great emails, very fun.  Thanks everyone for your help and support!  I could not have done this without all of your encouragement and help.

I did the Corporate Challenge Bike Race tonight (My first bike race ever) - it was out at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway - pretty cool being out there on the track... Since it's Corp Challenge, they don't care the distance as long as everyone does the same race...so, I wasn't sure of the exact mileage - It was advertised at 7-8 miles, but I had also heard 5 miles. Turned out it was a bit shy of 7 miles (My Garmin read 6.95, but I forgot to stop it at the right spot) Still, I wasn't sure when to start the REAL Sprint to the end (based on mileage)

It was a chip start/finish... The Men were supposed to have a Mass Start and then the Ladies, but they hit the gun, and everyone just kinda moved to the start at once.... I was close to the FOP for the women which means the MOP overall... I knew it was a short race, so I tried to gun it from the start... I kept passing people as much as possible - it was REAL windy so every time we turned into the wind, I went slower, but we also had the wind at our backs for part of it which was nice and FAST. There was one major hill, which I made it up no problem - someone next to me dropped his chain on the hill, and someone in front of me dropped their bottle, which I got to try to avoid.  We wound our way in and out of different tracks, then I found myself back at the main track and ready to sprint toward the finish line... a lady passed me right as we were coming into the track, I gunned it and beat her out right at the finish.... I had SOOOO much fun! I didn't know racing was that much fun.

When I saw the results, it said FIRST place! Then I thought - yeah right, I'm sure I was the only one in my AG... but NOOOO, during the awards, they announced a 3rd and 2nd place... I got a Legit FIRST place for my Age Group - not bad for my first race

I just looked up the results, and there were 8 people in my category!!!
