GaryRM - 2010-04-20 10:56 AM Diane!!!  Woohoo! You are fast!  Congrats on the race!

LOL, you went that fast for 56 miles... I only did 7 miles...  I wouldn't consider myself FAST as much as lucky that the FAST riders didn't show up for Corporate Challenge   It still feels good

Haven't committed but looks like I may try to do either the swim or the bike for the Beach 2 Battleship IM in Nov.  I have a runner and if I don't do both the bike and swim would anyone be interested in joining a relay?  I am leaning towards the swim as it is wetsuit legal, will have a tide coming in for extra speed, it is Point to point which I like, and the swim is a bigger challenge to me I believe.  Will let you know if we commit to doing this.

Hey all!

Sorry I haven't been around.  The sale of our company is due to close on Friday and I have been very busy.  Very much looking at B2B as this may be a good one for me.   Swam today, my first workout and only did 750m to stretch out a little.  Plan on resuming training on Monday.  Going to do Jorge's 20 week (or most of it) before I do 20 week BT beginner IM plan (minus run).  Bill, we will have to talk.  I will call you next week as I think thats when I am going to sign up but there is a couple of twists that need to be worked out.

Hope everyone is doing great and I promise to start coming by more once the sale is done.

Did my evening run, 4 miles with the dog.  After run, tried a cold water bath.  Sat in the tub with no water and allowed the cold to run so I could get used to it slowly.  Sat 7 minutes then got out.  Not quite an ice bath but reading that this was just as good.  Any thoughts?

Just got back from a 30.5 mile bike ride - longest mid-week ride of my life! We decided not to do Red Rock since the weather at that elevation was iffy... so we did a different major hill... at around 10 miles (and after the hill) we were asked if we wanted to ride further - everyone said yes... I had no clue I said yes to another 20 miles LOL... anyway, feels good, it was an AWESOME ride with the group...

Billy - I never took ice baths unless I did a double digit run - I think you're nuts to torture yourself after "only" 4 miles... just my opinion

I enjoy torture!  Thats why I got married.Smile

I have an old but serious ankle injury from 1991.  After I run any distance, the next day I walk with a very serious limp, just trying to eliminate some of the following day pain.  This morning, I am walking fine but will hold off judgement until I have tried it several times.  I am also hoping it will help my knee.  Dang, sounds like I am falling apart.

Oh, I swam 1.5 miles before I ran yesterday and laid sod in my yard as well, so I was pretty much beat up.

Billy - then by all means, torture away - ice baths are a GREAT way to ice the full leg... it's much harder to do that with ice packs, takes longer, and isn't as affective... glad you're walking good today - hope the ice bath helps in the "long run"

OK, I'm actually thinking about running again - I haven't run since November, and I think it's about time I try it again - my shins SHOULD be all healed by now!!!  So, I was playing with my schedule, and it turns out that there's a few Sprint Tri's in September in LV, it'll give me 14 weeks after my Century ride to train for it... which means, I can take 2 weeks completely off or have 2 weeks padding on a 12 week program...

I was thinking of starting a 9 week Couch to 5k program - which will be 3x/week run/walk - which will get me to 3.1 miles SLOWLY... avoiding injury...

So, what do you think? Start running now, or wait til after the Century Ride (June 6) Should I just incorporate the C25k running program into a Tri program? Or write one myself? OR get a coach? OR give up on Tri's for the Fall Season, and just see if I can run again... Thing is, I need goals in order to just get off the couch   I suppose I can just concentrate on Cycling, there's always Century Rides around I can do... But, I'm thinking I like Tri's

Diane - I guess I vote for wait until after the Century, take a week off start the C25K and replace the running portion of your Tri training with the C25k.  Starting it a week early will give you a slow ramp up into tri training.

Billy - left you a message.

I am tired.  Did my run on the treadmill, 1:40 minutes, best I can tell 10 miles.  Kept shutting down so  mileage is a guess, 50 minutes in the pool, 1850 yards.  That is all folks.  Where are you my little Ivan???????

Diane - as you train I would only run 2x per week.  There is really no need to run 3x for a sprint or even Olympic....and I didn't run 3x every week training for a half ironman....so 2 would be IT for me...

Billy - cold water is better than nothing but it would be best to dump the tray from the ice maker into that water  after you acclimate to the cold water temp.  You are trying to ice the whole leg not just cool it off.  In the witer, after long runs, I would just walk down the steps into our pool....that way I could stop at a strategic depth if you know what I mean...LOL.  I actually use icepacks from Walgreens almost all the time.  They are velcro sleeves with reusable bags in them.  They velcro around the calves and quads first (I have 4 of them) and then hit the hamstrings and ankles or knees depending on whether there is pain - otherwise, I just hit the calves, quads and hammies.  I prefer this method as I can take them with me if I am meeting up with folks or running from somewhere other than home and ice on the way home.  They are not too expensive and I really like the versatility.  With four of them, I am through icing in 30-40 minutes after a long run.  While I am iced, I lay on the floor on my back with my legs elevated onto the edge of the coffee table (don't tell Debbie).  The theory being that helps drain some of the blood and hence, lactic acid from the lower legs.  This time is also a good amount of time to do some additional stretching.....something not many of us do enough of....

Hey all!

John, feel great.  By Thursday it was all getting back to normal.  As of Friday, no soreness.  BTW, nice run today!!

Going to ride the trainer tonight and do the Start test for Jorge's program.  Was hoping to get back to swimming this week but exec's from our new parent company will be in.  Hopefully a couple of swims and 4 rides this week.  Start back on some lite running the week after.  My 20 week beginner IM plan (minus long runs) starts end of June.

Go Billy Go!

Where is everyone???

Gary, glad things are feeling back to normal... what's this Jorges program you speak of?

I'm sore... I did a 62 mile MAJOR Hills ride yesterday - today I kept it REAL easy with a 28 mile ride... my bike is now in the shop getting His compact crank put on... real excited to try it out on Hills

This just in from WAEF on the BF:

Things are good on my end. Tri training, work, enjoying family life, having fun.

Hi Diane, sounds like you're be more than ready for your century ride. We're doing MS ride again this year. Fundraising underway. Lots of creative stuff this year. Instead of asking for money, we're doing events to raise money. Bake sale, yard sale, open mic night, it's almost as fun as the actual event. Send the BT Turtles my love.

Big congrats to Gary on his HIM! I knew he'd do great.

Is it possible to train for a Sprint Triathlon in Running & Swimming, but continue to do endurance events in cycling? I know triathletes try to be even in all sports, but I really want to keep my running mileage REAL low for at least a year... like 6-9 miles/week to avoid injury.. but I REALLY want to do a couple of tri's this fall... I was looking at maybe a HIM bike portion or even a full IM cycle portion, if I can find a runner (I already have a swimmer volunteer)

What do you think?
