Expert 1117 Shalimar, FL | Subject: RE: Cheesecake Lovers This is great, getting to "know" everyone. I'm 51 and married with no kids, although my hubby acts like a big kid some days. I'm an engineer under contract to the Air Force, and sometimes work and travel get in the way of training. I've been a recreational runner most of my adult life, but started to get serious about it 5 years ago, mostly to lose some pounds that had crept on over the years. Then exactly 4 years ago yesterday my world changed -- I was in a very bad car accident and when I woke up alive one of the things I decided was that running was very important to me. I started running as soon as I was able, and a year after that I was training for my first half marathon. But all of the running was starting to get to my knees, so I started cross training and fell in love with biking. You know how the rest of the story goes... I did have another "oops" a couple of years ago -- fell while running and broke my clavicle. Unfortunately it didn't heal correctly and I spent a year waiting it out, but a little over a year ago I had a plate put in. This enabled me to swim some, but freestyle was impossible. So last year I did 2 sprints swimming only breastroke, and won my AG in both! I got the plate out last month, and now I'm finally able to train like I should. I'm racing a sprint in a couple of weeks, an Oly in the fall, and I plan a HIM next spring. I think I'm addicted! |

Elite 4148 Utah | Subject: RE: Cheesecake Lovers joebowler - 2008-06-04 11:34 PM I'll play too My name's Joe 32 yrs old and single Never really played any sports as a kid except for bowling. I had been overweight pretty much all my life until April of 04 when I decided enough was enough, I tipped the scales at 387 lbs, and joined 24 hour fitness to lose the weight. About a year 15 months later I was down 100 lbs and did my first 5k and got hooked on racing. Later that year my trainer did the Escape from Alcatraz tri on no training and that put the idea of doing a Tri in my head. Ended up doing 4 duathlons in 06 and attempted 1 tri but dnf'd the swim, my achilles heal but getting better. In 07 completed my 1st tri in Napa then did 4 more sprints and an oly. Now I'm training for my 1st HIM and currently trying to talk myself out of signing up for an ironman for next year. Now I'm down about 175 lbs total and have made this my lifestyle. THAT is an awesome, inspiring background Great Job on your accomplishments and the many more to come!!! Edit after reading more... It seems that this team has a lot determination and motivation in history... I'm sure their will be more evidence of it to come.... Edited by geauxtri 2008-06-05 9:06 AM |

Veteran 245 Eden Prairie, MN | Subject: RE: Cheesecake Lovers My name is Scot and yes I'm from Minnesota. I probably should have spent more time on coming up with a witty moniker, but I really wanted to start logging my workouts. I'm 38 and married, with an 8 yr old boy and a 5 yr old girl. I had my first mid-life crisis at age 30 and signed up for a marathon. I've ran two more marathons over the next 3 years. I really liked the running, but I was always struggling with shin splints and my legs and body was beat up by the time the marathon came around. Two years ago I thought I'd try a sprint triathlon to get some cross training in. The race was a blast, and I felt strong and healthy during the training. I ended up doing two sprints that year. Last year I never really got into and only did 1 sprint with not much training. Around Christmas this year, I was about 25 lbs over over my racing weight. I decided to sign up for a 1/2 Ironman in Sept. I just finished my first olympic distance race on June 1st. I've got a lot of work to do before then, and BT and these challenges really help. I'm glad to see there are a few other people in the group that are shooting for their first HIM this year. |

Member 30 Beaches, San Diego | Subject: RE: Cheesecake Lovers My turn… I’m Stephanie, 26 from San Diego, Ca. I have always been active, Basketball and Mountain Biking growing up; Rowing in High School and College, then when I finished college I was so burnt out that I took some time off and tried my hand at surfing. Then recently, some unfortunate events brought my family together over the holidays and I was able to spend some quality time with my uncle who is an Avid athlete. He pushed me to run an 8 mile Turkey Trot which was outside of my 3-5 mile comfort zone… not to mention during the holidays (when I tend to fall off the fitness wagon). But given the circumstances I could not let him down. I ended up running with him and I surprised myself, I had a great run and finished strong! Through out my week with my uncle I watched him train and push himself and I was officially “bit” by a bug to find something that would challenge me again. My mom (Girl Passing on Left) was also bit by this bug and voiced her goals of doing a triathlon. I didn’t think that was what I wanted to do, since I am not a swimmer. But then a few months later we cheered as my uncle finished the Arizona Ironman after an incredibly trying day and I was SOOOOO inspired that soon after my mom and I found ourselves registering for the Spring Sprint. I finished the sprint, had a blast and I am definitely addicted. I eat, sleep, tri now! Triathlons are every where I look, even at work (Active.com)… I am currently training with over 100 fellow employees to compete in the Solana Beach Triathlon in July and I am loving every second of it! I would also to do a HIM (just learned that acronym today) in the next year or so!
GO TEAM! p.s. sorry for my novel! |

Maybe I'll be able to use my rested brain at work today -- my boss will be so happy. Softball and volleyball on the agenda for this evening. Long OWS tomorrow and long bike on Sunday. |

Master 3479 Utah | Subject: RE: Cheesecake Lovers Hi guys--just a quick drive by to say I'm still alive--hubby came home (it was a long 3 weeks...), so I'll be MIA for a few days while we get re-aquainted. He's atking a few days off of work (thank heavens for broken computers) so I gotta take what I can get. In other news, I went to the massage therapist today. ouch. I love her, but she hurts me. Oh well. It's for my own good, and I keep going back, so....yeah. I'm glad I went. That's all for now--looks like I'll have to come back and play getting to know you later. Mwaaa CL's! |

Master 3479 Utah | Subject: RE: Cheesecake Lovers Oh, and Heather, you're going to do great on your race. You know it, I know it, we all know it. Just keep up the positive talk in your head, do some imagery tonight, and knock it out tomorrow. And yes, you're not likely to have a longer T1 or T2 than me, so don't even think about it! I win in that category! Now you just have to get out there and smoke my time on the bike (and the run). Of course, that's never been an issue for you, so I have confidence you will totally smoke me in both the bike and run. Ok, enough of this stream of consciousness. Geaux Heather!!! |

Master 3479 Utah | Subject: RE: Cheesecake Lovers OK, so hubby and the kids are at the apple store downtown, so I have a few minutes, and I wanna play, so here, goes... I'm Amy, 33, registered nurse (thus the user name), I have 2 kids ages 11 (girl, turning 12 in a few months), and 6 (boy). My hubby travels alot, and I work an irregular schedule of swing shifts, so I have a weird, unpredicatable schedule that conflicts with my training. I was an age group swimmer growing up and in high school for a few years, then I tried my hand at diving. I never rode my bike much growing up (and less after high school), and I wanted to run, but my legs did not cooperate, so...fast forward to last fall, when a friend called me and said, "hey we should work out together!". We'de been down that road several times before, never making it very far, but she swore she was serious this time because she was training to do a triathlon this summer. "You should join us--it'll be fun". Fast forward another 6 months and here I am, I finished my first tri last Saturday. Yay! I'm hooked, and I'd like to have a cheering section for the next one, probably in July. Even though I'm a strong swimmer, I don't have much motivation to do OWS, so I've been looking at pool sprints. I felt soooo good after finishing my race last week, I think I'm hooked, too. It's nice to get to know everyone on this awesome team a little better. Now aren't we missing a few intros still? Where is that Sal? He needs to tell us how much he loves
