At games in England - when the opposing fans have been boisterous and chanting defiance to the home fans....if the home team scores first, they usually sing " its all gone quiet over there, its all gone quiet over there...." to the tune of "if youre happy and you know it clap your hands" - I had a similar thought since you have been in hiding for a week!.....where have you been? Mourning? It would not surprise me to see Pool score first and maybe win 2-1 but a 3 goal win is some serious sledding. Manure might pull it out but they look ordinary right now Arse should win but they are erratic too.... Switching topics - I cannot understand the "zonal" marking in your box....either from set plays or free play...it just does not work. We were taught to stay tight and get tighter the closer you were to the goal...today, you can run unimpeded into the box and get a free header or shot / tap in sometimes...incredible....they need to restore the discipline..the downfall coincides with the flat back four becoming popular..harder to track runs and players but better for condensing space.....it would be interesting to see if a sweeper system would be successful....maybe a newcomer to the EPL next year should try it!

Not mourning, pouting. You know, the zonal thing has been a bone of contention by a lot. Hell, I blame the Everton loss on it, with little Timmie Cahill getting free for a header. How do you let someone that SMALL get that many headers?!?!?!?! GRRR... Anyway, heh, yeah, can you see a sweeper system coming back. I can't, but would be funny to see someone try it. And yes, a 3 goal win is going to be VERY difficult. Not impossible but not easy, by any stretch. And time is starting to come short in the tables. And ManUre still has a game in hand. Question. I know that if the points are tied at the end, it falls back to Goal Differential. But what if that were tied? Head to head matchup? |

Champion 15211 Southern Chicago Suburbs, IL | Subject: RE: Any REAL football fans here? I didn't post it yesterday because, well, I couldn't. Didn't have time. But I wanted to address it today. Yesterday was the 20th anniversary of the Hillsborough tragedy. I was 17 years old at the time and remember hearing about it on the news that day. My mum is from Leeds, but my nana and grandad lived in the Whirral, across the Mersey, from Liverpool at the time. It wasn't easy to follow footy back then, but hearing Liverpool caught my ear and then hearing, and seeing, the tragic events broke my heart. Later that year, we went over to visit the family. I had friends that lived there and when we talked about it, fortunately, they didn't know anyone that was hurt or died that day, but it clearly had an effect on them. 20 years on and it still has an effect. The pictures yesterday and today still bring up the heartache of that day from oh so long ago. And then, to see the tragedy in the Ivory Coast just recently, brought up the same thoughts. I won't get into the politics of the event. Who did what, when and why. I think it does a diservice to those that were lost, this far removed from the event. Yesterday was a day of honoring and remembering those that were lost. Most, way too early in life. From a Red across the sea, my thoughts and prayers go out to those who lost their loved ones that day. You'll Never Walk Alone. Edited by crowny2 2009-04-16 8:40 AM |

Elite 3091 Spokane, WA | Subject: RE: Any REAL football fans here? Thanks for the post about the Hillsborough tragedy, Crowny. I only vaguely remembered hearing about what happened, so I read a BBC article about the anniversary of the event. What a nightmare--my heart goes out the victims and families. I was interested to learn that Gerrard's cousin was killed. |

Not a fan of the Red headed Moaner....or Ferguson for that matter....the pitch was atrocious for Wembley...$200M and it looked like someones allotment after 20 mins...Manure put out a really weak side and still Everton could not score!...And Manure should have had a penalty...all the moaning by Moyes about "Riley doesnt like us, he's a ManU fan" paid off....and Wellbeck...good grief - you are a professional so how can you not even stay upright when you kick the ball with your left foot?!!! I was embarrassed for him! Chavski should put the world to rights in the final and I am sure Moanyes will say it was the ref, the pitch, the weather, global warming or something because he never admits they werent good enough.... |

Agreed on all points. And I thought Falliani (sp?) was worthless. No strength, horrible first, second and third touch, and for someone as big as he is, he hardly ever left his feet. Waste of time and money in my opinion. |

Yeah, I found it interesting that Fergie decided to go with the B-Team. It really indicated to me that he's focusing on The Prem and the Champion's League and didn't really care that much about the FA Cup. |

They had a few flashes of brilliance but still a long way away from being a cohesive team, with that bunch. It did, though, make a definite statement of his "respect" for the FA cup. Or lack thereof. |

Elite 3091 Spokane, WA | Subject: RE: Any REAL football fans here? Well, I know Crowny is gonna be in a dontwannatalk mood tonight, but I've got to comment on the LFC/Arsenal game. I didn't see the game but I monitored the score during the second half at the live score center on the EPL website and every time I checked the score it had changed! I couldn't believe it when I saw that Liverpool had salvaged the tie after surrendering the lead in stoppage time. How in the world did they surrender 4 goals to one guy--Arshavin? Do they even have a term for four goals--I know three is the Hat Trick. Anyway, sorry Crowny Edited by zed707 2009-04-21 5:38 PM |

Arshavin was great....brilliant finishing...but also some woeful defending on both ends...made for a great game for the neutral.....Wenger and Rafa must have been close to cardiac arrest....for professionals they should be ashamed of that defensive performance....Torres and Arshavin were class though! |

I didn't get to listen to it (I have the season ticket to listen to it at work) because work was so crazy yesterday. Sounds like I'm glad I missed it. I saw and read the review. Almost sounds like Pepe never stood a chance on some of them. Best I can hope for now is a miracle with Portsmouth. Still, I will say one thing about this season. It is staying interesting to the end. It wasn't won a month ago. Technically everything is still up for contention. And that makes for a brilliant season. |

And on Saturday night, the wife and I were having a coronary watching Chicago put 2 goals in the last 10 minutes to snatch a tie when they were down 2-0 for most of the match. Anyone else watch any footy this weekend? |
