Had a great interval workout tonight.  I am finding that they seem easier. It's one thing to do them on the trainer and another on the road.  If the weather cooperates this weekend, I hope to get out on my bike and see how it goes.

^^^That sounds awsome. I hope to get a "real" bike ride this weekend myself.

Got my swim in to-night. I ended up a little sort as my legs started cramping up towards the end. I have to remember to drink more water in the future.

I went outside for a real ride on Saturday for the first time since October. It was so nice to be out again, but it was cold and windy and we were on some bad roads, so it made me excited for the spring to hit and to get back on the country roads I normally ride on.

Lina, best of luck this weekend. Above all have a wonderful time and enjoy yourself

Did a swim (400 yds) and an easy run (20 min - 1.75 miles) tonight. Tomorrow is all rest before the mini tri on Saturday.

Thank you all for your well wishes. Really appreciate the support.

You are going to do GREAT Lina.  Make sure you post with your results...we will all be waiting.

Today was a rough day.  Had to be in an all day workshop in one of our other offices. Did not get out of there until after 5 and was about 6:30 when I got home.

I did a 30 minute run instead of a 1:15.  I just did not have it in me.

OK...so please send me some patience and mental strength today...

Because I'm such a weenie, I'm doing my long run on the tready. Just can't face single digit/teen weather for 2 hours (not like 2 hours on the tready sounds like a joy, but at least I'll be able to feel my fingers after).

I'm hoping to hit the gym right after lunch so I can circumvent the stupid 45 minute rule on the machines...if it's not busy, I'll be able to camp on one machine and not have to bounce around.

Wow, 2 hours on the treddy.  Good luck Kristen.  That is as much a mental workout as a physical one.

I've been a little frustrated lately.

I want to be thin, and I guess people's definition of thin varries, but in my mind, I have a weight and a pants that I want to be.  I am just relly doubting my bodies ability to get there.

Maybe there comes a point in life where you settle in to a certain body composition and that's as good as it gets.  I am sure that if I was willing to go on some fad diet, or quit my job and workout 6 hours a day I could get there, but the quitting the job thing is not realistic, and the fad diet thing may work for a few weeks but there will come a point where I need to eat more than meat, eggs and cheese.

So, I have to learn to love what I have.  I eat fairly well.  Try to limit my refined carbs.  Working on portion control but that is relly not a big issue for me.  Drinking a lot of water and being active.  What else can I do?

Just accept what is, continue to live a healthy lifestyle and keep moving forward.

Swim tonight

Good morning all.

Got a light run during lunch today and then a good swim tonight.

BTW, has anyone had the chance to see the web video of the 2008 Ironman Champs at kona? Its pretty good stuff;

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=144461&posts=10&start=1

I tell you that Christy Wellington is just phenomonal. It was funny how all the other girls were pretty much resigned to the fact that they were all racing for second. It's scray how good she is.

Good luck Kristen, I know you can do it! I had to do an hour run in the pool when I was injured, it reallyw as more mentally challenging then physically challenging. I just kept telling myself "One more song, then you can decide if you want to stop", "oh, you've already done an hour, what's 10 more minutes?", etc, until I was finally at 2 hours. Bring some good music or hope for some good motivation/distraction on the treadmill in front of you

Marcy, I'm so sorry you're feeling frustrated. I think we all go through those feelings now and again. I think there does come a point where you are comfortable and come to terms with where you are at. I am 5 pounds above that for me right now, and would be thrilled if I could lose even more, but I finally understand that my happiest weight isn't necessarily my skinniest, it's what is easy for me to maintain and yet still fitting into my favorite pants. So, once I get there again I am normally pretty happy. However, I still have days/weeks/months where I do want to lose more and be more toned. I'm in one of those phases currently and am going to see what I can do about it after the marathon is over. If you want, we can start check-ins or a support group to help us all out.

Thank you so much for all your encouring words everyone.

Marcy - I read this article on BT a couple of days ago, and thought - "so true". I think you might enjoy the article as well and not feel so gloomy about your weight - http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/cms/article-detail.asp?articleid=1665.

Good luck with your run Kristen. That's a long one.

I knew today was going to be a toughie..

Met Scott and Terry at the track at 9am to do an LT field test.  It was colder than I thought, or actually windier but after the first few minutes I felt very comfortable.  My HR was the same as it has been the past 3 times I have done this, but I am pretty sure my pace was much better.  That's what it's all about right...going faster at the same LT.

Got some breakfast and then off to help my mom and one of her friends.  They are so cute...they want to start working out.  My mom is 65, and if she weighs 90 lbs that is a lot.  But I applaud her for wanting to keep her body healthy.  So We went to the little gym in her apartment and I showed them some basic resistance exercises on the universal machine.  I also showed them how to safely use the treadmill, bike and Precor.  They are funny...taking notes and asking so many questions!

Then, a 1:10 trainer ride.  Today was an easy spin but as I have learned by the LT, easy now is not the easy of a few months ago.  Kept a steady 70-75% effort.

Now I must shower and eat.  We sill have a little swim later.

All right ladies and gentlemen, I did my first triathlon. Definitely did not hit the distances I wanted to, but was a different interesting experience. We had to share a lap, so definitely was not prepared for that and it threw my whole swimming off. Oh! And did I mention we crashed during oh about the 3rd lap. Blahhhh....

But the rest of it went okay I guess. I pushed hard on the bike. Didn't meet the distance I wanted to, but not too bad. Took it easy on the run because I was a little worried about my foot. But actually the run was not bad at all. My trainer did some miracle massage on my foot just before the race started and it worked pretty good.

The official stats will be out tomorrow, but the unofficial ones are: 10 min swim - 380 yds, 30 min spin bike - 10.68 miles, 20 min treadmill run - 1.87 miles (i accidentally pressed the stop button 1 sec earlier. Arghhhhh).

Does anyone know how I can put my race stats in BT?

Overall. Exciting experience. I would most definitely do it again. And because this went well (more or less), I am going to sign up for th TriRidgefield (its a sprint). I wanted to do this first to see if I can even do it or if it was just wishful thinking. I know I am not there in distances, but I know I need to work on my swim and run and I think I can do it.

Rest of the weekend plan - Rest and finally have a glass of wine. Yummmm. Thanks all for the support.

Great job Lina!!!

You can pit all the times and distances in your training log.  If you want, you can create a race in the database.  That will add it to your training log and you can also then create a race report.

Proud of you

Morning all!  Today Steve and I are going on a 30 mile group ride.  Not what our plan says for today, but you can't pass up a 65 degree day in mid-january!

Awww - you're so sweet. Unfortunately, I capped off Friday evening by eating all you can eat meat (churrascaria for hubby's birthday) and too much wine at a wine bar.

Can you send some of that weather this way? Yesterday it was 7 when I woke up...today 35. And I'm supposedly in "the south"!

enders_shadow - 2009-01-18 10:21 AM Congratulations, Lina!!!

Thanks Kirsten.

Marcy - You need to send some of that warmth to northeast. Its snowing here and we have single degree temperatures. Oh! I am so jealous.

Today's plan. Rest and clean the house (it looks like a pig sty here). May be if my legs cooperate, an easy 15 min. trainer ride.

If you're not already, eliminate HFCS and partially hydrogenated oils from your diet.  Get rid of everything processed, white flour, white rice, white sugar.   Eat whole foods, clean foods, make sure you have plenty of protein and fiber.  Once I got in the habit of all of that it became second nature.  I know some people love her and some hate her, but I really found that Tosca Reno's Eat Clean Cookbook and the Eating Clean magazine have great recipes and help a lot.  My sister in law (who is obese) lost 10 pounds in one week at my house just eating what I cooked for her.

But also, as you say, accepting your body at whatever weight it seems most comfortable is also very important.   If we pick some random number and just can't get there, it's very self-defeating.   Best of luck to you!
