Veteran 120 Maine | Subject: RE: Team No DNF - FULL Congrats guys on the tris!! I've been out of the training loop, I admit its really tough to get back into it after being sick. So to get myself back on the loop I signed up for a 5K this Monday. I'm really nervous I am not a runner (I run a 5k in about 30 mins) and I checked the times from previous years and I would be at the very bottom. I just want to have a respectful time. |

Just remember (as I've seen it so many times on these forums here): DFL > DNF > DNS I can't really help you with running, as I'm not much quicker, if any, than you are. Good luck with it though. |

Good deal, and Cut is right. DFL > DNF > DNS. On that note, I want to stress to you all, GET COMFORTABLE SWIMMING WITHOUT A WETSUIT! Our race Sunday was NON wetsuit legal for the first time in the history of the race, and there were at least 20 people that didn't even try because of it, a few raced with the wetsuit and accepted a DQ, and there were close to 30 that abandoned the race during the swim. (The first was someone that had to cling to a kayak after 100m or so.) Be prepared for anything on race day, including swimming without the suit. Congrats to everyone for hitting some milestones, huge shoutouts to the first time tri'ers, and nice workout Chad! With the season coming up, y'all will be joining the club very soon! John |

Veteran 160 Toronto | Subject: RE: Team No DNF - FULL Hi, well done everyone. We're all still here. What's the DFN? I get DNF and I think DNS is do not start. Sorry, I'm a newbie. Don't get too excited when you see my race selection. THere isn't an option for the sprint length at Bracebridge, so it looks like I'm doing the serious race. Took Niko for her first run. She did great. Although did dart in front of me a couple of times. But will only get better. Holiday Mon here in Canada. Off on my training weekend this coming weekend. Went to the bike store yesterday and got measured by the guru there. So I'm a 56 in a Cervelo. Looking at the P2 carbon. As soon as the divorce settlement comes through or the rowing shell sells - I'm back to buy. Fi |

Not much difference between P2 and P3, and they are pretty much about the fastest bikes around! I will have bike envy! John |

Elite 4048 Gilbert, Az. | Subject: RE: Team No DNF - FULL Ok, my race report is now up. Click HERE. Learn from my mistakes, grasshoppers. Even the almighty mentor can still f*** it up on occasion. First time I haven't ridden/driven the race course (ESPECIALLY since it is a brand new bike course this year!) in years, and of course, I blow the course a bit. Cost me at least a minute, and had to eventually repass 3 people I'd already passed. John |

I just want to have a respectful time. 30 minutes is a respectable time! The first two 5Ks I competed in, I finished right around that time. I just kept up consistent training, slowly adding distance to my long runs, and before I knew it my race times started dropping. By the end of the summer last year, I managed a 26:xx 5K. So just keep on keeping on and the speed will eventually come to you. |

On your right | Subject: RE: Team No DNF - FULL And remember, there are some of us that will be wicked happy when they get under 30 mins for a 5K. *pointing to self* I was just under 33 mins when I did one a few weeks ago, which is down nearly 15 minutes from the first time I tried to jog 3 miles on a dreadmill, so I know I'll get there soon enough. Especially now that I've started to really ramp up my easy run distance. Seeing as how it's Tuesday morning, and I'm already at my most miles run in a week total for the year so far. And I know, I shouldn't just throw on too many miles at once, but I will anyhow. Assuming that my legs keep feeling good, that is. My magistrarial pace on my "long" runs shouldn't be too overwhelming. That and I'm starting to really enjoy getting out for a run. |

Master 1817 Lafayette, IN | Subject: RE: Team No DNF - FULL Ha! Pixie sticks! I remember back in the day we'd go to the roller rink (oh yeah, gotta love the 80s) and they sold those grande pixie sticks. It was like a pound of sugar and red dye number 3 in a big plastic straw. Good times. Maybe we can start a new trend - Pixie Stix as race nutrition. |

That does remind me, I need to get off my post race slacker azz and get that nutrition info post done. Sorry gang, I'm always a bit of a meltdown right after a race. And still trying to figure out my swim split, its just way way slower than I was expecting. John |

On your right | Subject: RE: Team No DNF - FULL If you use the giant pixy stix on the bike, you can then put the straw part into your hydration system so you don't have to litter. It's a win/win situation. |

You're not missing much - it's basically just colored sugar in a tube. You open the end and pour it in your mouth. Sugar rush to the maximum! Congrats on a great run! |

Expert 711 | Subject: RE: Team No DNF - FULL The weather is absolutely gorgeous! I am so thrilled. Yesterday I went on the best bike ride with someone I met at my gym's cycling club on Sunday. He's an older gentleman, the nicest and easiest going guy you'd ever hope to meet. Turns out that he has cancer and is on chemo every day because they operated but couldn't remove the entire tumour (it's wrapped around a blood vessel). This man cycles every day and goes all across the county (albeit not very fast, but that's not the point). It just made me realize that there is no reason why I can't do anything. If he can get in the saddle after a morning full of chemo, I can get my butt to the gym every day. I'm looking forward to a weekend full of training! I wish I had an OWS buddy for tonight though. It's beyond beautiful right now. Edited by trysprintolympic 2009-05-21 2:46 PM |

Elite 4048 Gilbert, Az. | Subject: RE: Team No DNF - FULL All right, everyone. I'm past my taper/post race funk. Now it's time to start hitting it and hitting it hard for the SOMA Half Ironman (my first 1/2), and this weekend is going to be a good kickstart! Who all is planning some serious workouts for the weekend? For the US peeps, you've got three days of weekend, it's an AWESOME time to hit a couple really hard workouts (or 3 or 5) and have Monday to relax, BBQ and recover! Lets kickstart this thing again and gear up! John |
