Ah, I've been really busy the last couple weeks, and the last few days I've been in Colorado for vacation and the Rattlesnake Sprint.
It wasn't too bad. The altitude difference really affected me more than I thought. The distances were 500m swim, 12 mile bike and 5k run.
Swim : Pretty good. My dad timed me at 8:00 for the total swim, then a long run to T1. I was a bit dizzy in T1, so I had a long time in there.
Bike : Pretty decent. I held 18.5mph on a fairly hilly course, which was about 2 mph slower than I wanted to go. Altitude was hitting me some, I felt like I had more in me, but couldn't get it going. Ended up with a split somewhere around 39 mins, goal was 33.
Run : Again, just couldn't get it going. Ran through a feeling like my calf wanted to cramp
(And paying for it now, calf has a nice long tender spot
), and ended with a run of around 25:00. Wanted it a bit lower, but not too bad.
Overall time, 1:16:49, I was 13/40 in my age group, and 65 out of 596 overall. Not too bad a race, but my goal time of anything sub 1:10 would have put me on the podium in my AG. I don't know how much time I lost to the altitude, but next year I'll be a bit better prepped. This last month was a bit haphazard for me.
Overall a little disappointed, but still a good showing.
Hows the gang doing?
John
