As soon as I read that you started at 280, and have gotten steadily better, I was hooked!! If there's room for me in this group
(I realize most are closed, and don't want to impose!
) I'd love to be a part of it.
My name's Jonathan, and I'm 31 and single, a full-time dad of a 6 year old girl.
I'm currently exceptionally out of shape, at 270 pounds, but know what it is to be in shape -- I was a competitive swimmer for years before and during high school, then took up cycling as a hobby for about 5 years, then spent 5 years in the Marines, working mostly on running. Since 2005, I've been completely sedentary, and just recently
(<1 month
) decided to get back in shape.
Training: I want to do 2-a-days, since I have the time for it, but am doing 6x per week right now as my body gets reacquainted with the stresses of exercise. I do 3 days on stationary bikes, 3 days in the pool, and spend a little time on the basketball court. I want to include a
(very
) mild weight training regimen as well, but don't know enough about where to start. Last time I tried jumping into weight training, I ended up with moderate tendonitis, so I'm very careful to take ti easy this time round. I don't plan on running much, if at all, until I'm down to about 240. During my last two years in the Marines, I ran about 45 miles a week, at a weight of 212-215.
Races: None scheduled now, but I desperately want to do the Lawrence, KS 70.3 in two year's time. Next summer, I'm shooting for a half-marathon and a sprint IM.
