PennState - 2010-08-27 9:53 PM Well my first attempt at 'the wall' will be Sept. 19th. Should be interesting huh?

You'll have a blast!!!

I foresee that being successful barring your line stays clear and you don’t snap a chain.

knyost - 2010-08-27 2:05 PM The SavageMan roads are positively smooth.

Except for Spring Lick, and even that is getting kind of nice now that the chip seal has ground in nicely.

The broken up stretch of Westernport Rd has been completely repaved for us.  1.2 miles of brand new tarmac.  All for us.  Say thank you to Garrett County Roads Dept when you see them.

Can you get them to run a street sweeper on Spring Lick?

If not, maybe we can form a group with brooms and take a walk down Spring Lick on Saturday afternoon.

One of those guys in the elite field I beat at Eagleman and IMLP by a few minutes each time. He swam a 49 minute IMLP swim from what I remember.

I suspect I know who you're talking about.  I think he went 47 and change at IMLP swim.  I imagine he's looking to win the swim and the swim prime.

I have been watching this grow for the past several months.  I guess I’ll just have to go faster.  I think my biking is suffering right now.  I sure hope I can pull it together for the race.

I thought to register elite you have to have a special USAT membership or is that just Pro?

Just Pro.

We validate all elite entries to make sure they belong, but no USAT requirements.

Curious to see what Josh Frick does on the bike course.

Frick Earns Stars and Stripes at Nationals in Masters 30-34 TT

July 6, 2007 - Member Josh Frick won the National championship in the Masters 30-34 time trial for a third straight year running, putting down the second fastest time of the day by all riders combined. Congratulations Josh.

I am more interested to see what Josh Beck does on the bike course. He just finished 7th overall at IMKY and had the 2nd fastest bike split (4:42) even counting pro's!

i gotta get to know this Josh Beck fellow.  he's right here in my back yard in Carlisle, and his name has come up 3x's in the last 4 days.  some locals i talk with and race with are in his wed. night run club and said i should come join.  so looks like i may do so.  its an OMEN!!
the guy is just amazingly fast!!!!

PennState - 2010-09-01 1:43 PM Hey, one more question?

Does racing in the elite wave make you ineligible for age group awards?

Yes, those racing elite are only eligible for overall awards.

So how do you validate an elite?

We ask for results and if they tend to be within 8% or so of winner, then we let them race elite.  Or, if they are a 3X national champion or a 47 minute IM swimmer, and ask to race elite, we let em through.

Signed up to volunteer at a run aid station for Saturday's race...one of my friends doing the Half is also volunteering (non-BTer).

Kyle - I signed up through my local club affiliation (Annapolis Tri Club) but wondering if the two of us could be grouped together with any BT volunteers at a run aid station?  No worries if it is too much of a logistical headache.

I'm feeling a little more optimistic about this event.  I took a couple days off last week but I got back in the game this week.  I had been adding additional volume to my training plan over the last two months and I think the built up fatigue finally got to me.  This week I backed off to do only what I was supposed to do and it felt so much easier.

Rode the course for the first time today.  Man that is no joke.  Averaged about 15.3, and was one for two on the Wall

Tripadign - I'm not the volunteer coordinator, but am aware of the plans and .  For most of the run aid stations we've got local groups, but I think for the run aid station right outside of transition and thus near all the activity and the finish line we will staff it with individual volunteers.  So, I'll suggest you and friend (name?) get placed there.

Good luck to everyone!  It sounds like it's going to be a crazy-fast field!

I'm starting to plan my race calendar for next year, want to do Savageman, but am also considering Superfrog in CA in September, so I may have a conflict.  Does anyone know which weekend it is in 2011?

How about I throw in an extra 1000 yds of the swim if you haul me up Killer Miller in the back of a truck?  Deal?

I just returned from riding the 70.0 course backwards.  What a G-L-O-R-I-O-U-S day.  About 70 and so clear you can see forever and bright blue skies.

That course ain't easy in reverse but I do think it is easier that way.  Though climbing Spring Lick was a bit of a challenge late in the ride.  You really do notice its beauty more going up, though.

The roads are in smashing good shape.  New pavement on Otto Lane, New Germany Rd, and most importantly the short descent off the top of Big Savage where it was all badly torn up.  Fresh, awesome, smooth, brand new black tarmac.  Yummy.

Spring Lick is nicely ground in.  But even so, that descent is by far the worst of the course.  Narrow and the road is old chip seal and just kind of bumpy and uneven.  And twigs, leave, general detritus about.  It'll get swept, but still, that's the descent to take care on.
