I could do that. I have got some rope up here. But, I do not think that you would accept my help, since I am only waiting around to kill you.

That does put a damper on our relationship.

gojogo - 2009-12-27 8:37 PM Hi all,

I'm in for no junk food starting the 2nd.  I'm glad my cookies at the house are gone.

I've been to the pool a couple of times and worked on flip turns.  I still feel like I'm turning sideways, but I feel faster.  I took 5 seconds off of my 50's consistently.  That drop it from 50 sec. to 45 sec.

I've been snowboarding the last couple of days.  The fresh snow today was awesome.

I got a cadence computer and a water bottle to sit between my aero bars.  Santa had my computer all hooked up.  Unfortunately the magnets must be off a little bit so nothing is showing up.  I'll take it back to the bike shop this week and have it checked out.

What spinerval videos are your favorites?

Kelly

I was going to respond to this as well... hmmmm... great minds? or just fools seldom differ?

I have a few Spinervals DVD's. The first one that I got and still enjoy the most... Spinervals 16.0 Aero Base Builder 1. It's an easy workout and helps to build the aerobic system. I find doing that one 2-3x a week alone really made a difference in my riding a few years ago.

Since then I've gotten a number other's... Spinervals 22.0 Timetrialpalooza... ummm.. OUCH!!! Spinervals 20.0 The Spinning Machine ... hard, hard, hard... but good workout. Spinervals 1 (I think) Time Trial Machine... hard effort but a little shorter then 22.0. Finally, Spinervals Real Ride Lake Placid Training Ride... good steady 3 hour work out. I enjoy that one too... for long rides in the garage, in the winter. I would love to get the Mt. Lemmon ride as well.

I find the Spinervals workouts gives me a disciplined and well laid out work out, and most of them allow you to use your own music, so it doesn't bore you to tears. For most people -- no you Helen...we've already learned you're not normal -- having Coach Troy lead you thru the workout allows you to concentrate on DOING the work and not when and how hard you have to work.

Highly recommend ANY of the Aero Base Builder Series... or the entire series. If they become too easy, just increase the gear ratio... or the cadence... but keep the HR in the target zones. This will get you a GREAT base for the coming year.

Have "fun" spinning.

I shall take that as a compliment!!

I do that sometimes,  turning sideways that is.  Even though I'm pretty good at flip turns I don't always do them while swimming, usually it's to help count laps on longer sets,  Is your tuck when you flip a tight one or stretched out?  or you might be starting your turn so you are doing the crawl not the backstroke too early.

One thing that when I'm timing myself for laps is to really streamline off the turns, Hands clamped on top of each other, arms squeezed tightly against the head, chin tucked, get a really good push off the wall, and you shouldn't be coming up until the color on the lane lines has changed.

I started out kind of turning sideways and am trying to fix it. I think my flips are a mess......and I think what i need is someone IN the water with me to help me out. Anyone feel like coming up to Canada for a visit????

I agree with Bopper on the Spinervals I have just gotten into them and haven't watched all the one's I have yet, but I like most of them very much. I find the Real Rides the least interesting, though I thought they would be be visually exciting. Some of the early ones have music soundtracks that sound like 70's P0rn (don't ask how I know that). You can turn it off music or play your own instead. Coach Troy really makes me pedal hard and I try to keep up with whatever he says. I couldn't do this on my own even if I had a cue sheet I doubt I could muster the kind of encouragement like one gets from Coach Troy in Spinervals.

Fezig: Inigo!!! Inigo!!

Inigo: Fezig, you found some horses. You did well!

Fezig: Don't worry, I won't let it go to my head!

This movie is such a classic. I think it should be required reading... the book is HILARIOUS and far superior to the movie... and the movie is EXCELLENT. Sweetums and I went to see this movie on opening night in 1987... we didn't know it was opening night at the time... and waited in line for 45 minutes to get into the theatre. The place was absolutely jam packed (800 seat theatre), and it was the most fun we've EVER had at a movie. People were laughing, shouting at the bad guys and having an absolute blast. When we got our first VCR and DVD player, it was the first movie we bought. We wore out the tape once in the VHS version and the DVD is still one of our favs.

This is, in my opinion, Rob Reiner's crown jewel. I'm not sure you could have made this movie any better.

waidaminute......

is this a 'kissing' book movie?

If you have someone local to watch you,, have them also watch some of the you tube clips.  As strange as it sounds some times someone that doesn't know anything is a good help after they have watched the correct technique, they have no predisposed notion of what it should look like, except the correct way

Gary thank you!! These clips are great. The ones by Goswim actually break down the turn by getting you to learn the turn with a noodle FIRST. It also explains the arm thing....this is where I am going wrong....I KNOW I am not supposed to be using my arms but did not know how to take them out of the equation!! Need to get to the pool to practice!
