When switching from my large front chain ring to the small,I often have to click my shifter two to three times to have it move to the small ring. I do most of my adjustments via trial and error (mostly error) and I've probably done myself more harm than good. But it sounds like your low-gear limit is too tight. Check this video tutorial out for an explanation:http://bicycletutor.com/adjust-front-derailer/ I'd also recommend that everyone bookmark this site, as it's a great resource for all kinds of tweaks and adjustments, along with basic maintenance. |

Personally, it would knock me out. Everyone I know has had this sequence of events happen to them: run a marathon, get a cold. But if you're totally comfortable with the distance and WILL PACE IT NOT RUN IT (lol) then I say woohoo, go for it!! That is the key - if I pace it I'll be fine. Sooo hard not to race when you get in the situation. You know I am thinking of increasing my training volume in June to IM level just to see how my body reacts to the workload. If it goes well then this can just be another training day! |

So for me making the distance in the swim is important. Once settled in I'll transition to be faster. What book or dvd did you use for the total immersion swimming? Nope ... Pittsburgh Pirates ... That is where I was born and raised. Only been a Texan for 5 years. The book is called Total Immersion. |

Extreme Veteran 567 Kingwood, TX | Subject: RE: Slidell4Life's Group - CLOSED for Training Krystyna - I wear compression shorts under my running gear. Not sure if it helps with soreness or vascularity but it keeps "stuff" in place and it very comfortable. Have never tried socks or sleeves. Have a couple of shirts that are compression, but they are more for comfort. |

Veteran 262 Longview | Subject: RE: Slidell4Life's Group - CLOSED for Training It might help to look at different saddles or go back and have them re-evaluate your fit since you have ridden some on the bike. It could just take a few small adjustments |

Now I am a Texan and will never move back to the cold, never! As for your saddle ... you could adjust it but if you had a fit done than it is probably just the saddle. Is it the stock saddle? I recently changed from the stock QR saddle and got an ISM Adamo racing one and "the boys" have been thanking me after each ride! |

Member 40 Fort Wayne | Subject: RE: Slidell4Life's Group - CLOSED for Training Well Jeff I'm with you on the cold. My wife would like to move. As for me That would be cool too. Probably out west somewhere. As for my saddle, yes its a stock saddle. It came with my bike. Short rides are okay. Anything longer then 20-30 min I go numb. |

Regular 73 Valencia, CA | Subject: RE: Slidell4Life's Group - CLOSED for Training So I got my (rented) wetsuit yesterday and decided to give it a test run in the pool this morning. I only swam for 5 minutes, but I did 250 yards (my first 100 was in 1:50), which is more than a 25% speed increase over my previous best! Granted, it was only a 5-minute "time trial," but I definitely noticed a huge difference in speed and buoyancy. The only negative (and not even a negative, really) was the unexpected constriction of the suit (especially in the chest) when I jumped into the water. It was sort of that "take your breath away" feeling you get when you jump into a really cold pool for the first time. At least now I'll know to expect that on race day (9 days and counting!).... |

That is great Josh! Was wonder just how much of a difference a wetsuit would make. It seems that it makes us not so great swimmers a little better .... funny you posted this because I literally just got off the phone with Xterra and just order my first wetsuit. Great deal using the code here from BT (saved me $250). I'll let you know how it works out. |

Regular 73 Valencia, CA | Subject: RE: Slidell4Life's Group - CLOSED for Training Cool, Jeff, I'm curious to know how much of a difference the wetsuit makes for you. I severely overestimated my swimming ability when I started my training, so I'm not all that surprised I saw a drastic improvement right away. On a side note, I just ran 3.1 miles in 31:06, which is a new PR by :20/mile. Desert Sprint Triathlon in 8 days! |

Regular 73 Valencia, CA | Subject: RE: Slidell4Life's Group - CLOSED for Training Hopefully it's nothing too daunting and you'll be back soon, Terry. So I've been "borrowing" a Marin Lucas Valley hybrid bike from a friend for the past 6 months, as it was just collecting cobwebs in said friend's garage (and I only have a hefty MTB). I've logged 500+ miles and the Malibu Triathlon on this bike and had it tweaked to my liking. I just found out yesterday that my friend wants to sell it and has a guy who wants to see it on Saturday, knowing that my triathlon is on Sunday. I know this is probably coincidence, but I'm really aggravated, annoyed and frustrated nonetheless. So now I have 6 days to get my MTB ready and get re-acclimated to it. You know, because getting ready for my first-ever solo triathlon wasn't causing enough anxiety. Just needed to vent. GRRRRRRR. |

Elite 2645 Phoenix, AZ | Subject: RE: Slidell4Life's Group - CLOSED for Training Wow that sucks, Josh. I just finished my big running race for the winter. It was a 200-mile relay race. I was on a team of 12, and we all were supposed to run 3 legs. About midway though, a runner was hit by a car on a dark highway. The police closed the road and the race came to a stop at 2AM in the middle of nowhere. They instructed all 350 teams (almost 4000 runners!) to meet at a school across town and we continued the race at 5AM. It was bananas, but I had an amazing time. I logged my race legs in my training page. I am out of town for a week, so I might be a bit distant until mar 9. |

Extreme Veteran 585 Price, UT | Subject: RE: Slidell4Life's Group - CLOSED for Training Yeah Josh too bad on the bike. Maybe the guy will hate it and you can ride on Sunday. SOunds like you had a fun time Chad. Hope the person who got hit wasn't hurt too badly. Scary running at night sometimes. But things are slowly resolving here and hope to be hitting it really hard soon. Pretty muddy here still, but soon maybe my favorite runnnuing trail will be snow and mud free!! |
