scottgreenstone - 2010-04-05 5:46 PM Did a decent speed temp run of 4.5 miles in 7:37 pace. I am getting really tired all the time though.

It's because so are going so damn fast. Slow down to my pace and have all the energy in the world.

How are your recovery weeks set up? You should be having lower volume about every 4th week. That was when I would recharge the batteries. Trust your schedule, you will be fine and if all else fails, take a day off or turn it into a swim day. I try to stay on schedule, but you know your body and when it needs rest, it needs rest, so do what is best. You wont die if you skip a day

I have been trhowing in a recovery week by default here and there. Either after a big race or when I or spouse is sick or feeling an illness brewing. Happens all too often with 2 little kids around.

Did a self spin hill workout today at lunch. 5 minute w/u followed by 4 minute progressive resistance seated followed by 6 minutes progressive resistance standing, followed by 4 minutes progressive resistance seated, followed by 6 minutes progressive resistance standing followed by 5 minute cool down. Ouch.

So did 1250 in the pool at lunch. First time with jammers and shaved legs after a rest day. Took 4 minutes off my best time. Is it the jammers, the shaving or the rest day?

Congrats on the PR. It's definitely no the shaved legs!

Probably a combination of the jammers and rest= better form

Did 60 laps today, 3000 meters in 1 hour and 4 mintes. Puts me at a realistic 1:24 ironman swim. Then this afternoon did an easy 8 mile run in 1 hour and 3 minutes.

Welcome to my world. Soccer has killed almost every weekend so far this year.

Still wouldn't miss it for the world. These kids grow up way too fast.

I knew you would get into the 1:20's for your IM swim. I bet before IMLP you will be sub 1:20 if you keep up this work. How are your Bike and run projected times coming along?

Based on yesterday's ride I am shooting for a 7 hour bike. My stand alone marathon averages 3:45 so I am shooting for a 6 hour marathon All said that should put me around 14:30 - 15:00 hour IM.

Race this weekend, Olympic at Lake Anna, I will concentrate on nutrition and try and just have a good time. I wish I had more bike time and bricks but don't we always wish we had trained more. I have to keep reminding myself it is all training for September so anything sub 3 hours will work but will shoot for sub 2:50 so I PR.

Good luck at Lake Anna. That place is like a home away from home for me.

I am off to Sacramento for a few days. Hold down the fort for me.

Just back from Lake Anna I really had my worst race ever. The swim was extremely choppy but got through it pretty well my buddy went off 8 minutes before me and got out the same time so I felt good about the swim, in Transition everytime I went to put my bike shoes on I got a terrible cramp in my hamstring finally got on the bike and downhill from there about half way through the bike I started felling sick at my stomach so I backed off a little and thought I was going to be alright but really got sick at my stomach at about the 5k mark of the run and had to run in the woods and toss my cookies. I actually thought I was going to recover after that but about mile 4 I starting getting sick again so I tried walking at the water stations and then it was just over I spent the last 2 miles running about 100 yards and then walking to get my stomach settled down, ran the last bit through the woods and then just went and laid in transition, really at a loss right now sorta sucked

Sorry to hear about your race, but great work pushing through it.

Quick paced 6 miler, but felt rather easy, hmmmm could be the day off yesterday.

Kip, I agree. Great job pushing through this race. I know the chop on the swim put an end to half of the field at the Triple in October. Do you think this was the main factor to your stomach issues? How much water do you think you took in during the swim? I know for longer races, the swim becomes super important (This goes for you too, Scott). Once you add nerves, then too much lake, pool or ocean water, your stomach gets all twitchy. You have two options once that happens. Not eat, which will get you on the run or Continue to eat, which may come back up at some point. I have never had stomach issues during a race, so I am not the best person to help, but I have had issues related to protein during my training. I was queezy most of the bike, most of the time I spent training. Eventually I figured out it was the protein and cut it out, but in the meantime, I just had to baby myself through the bike. That seem to help and I was able to do omy run bricks as well. I guess if you run into this in the future, your best will be to choke it back on the bike until things get back to normal (if at all). Your overall times will slow down, but you will finish.

Now, back to the swim. How much time did you spend training for the swim? In open water? Will your Half Iron be in a lake or will there be chop as well? If so, go out now and practice, practice, practice in open water.I find the secret to a successful race is being able to get through the swim with the least amount of issues possible.

How are you feeling today?

First brick, sort of. 11 miles of hill repeats (avg speed of 9.8 mpg - gross) on the bike followed by a 2 mile run (15:10) to pick up daughter at school.

No open water swims but plenty of swimming. I really had no issues with the swim I did take in more water than usual but felt pretty good getting on the bike. I am really at a loss I do know I did not take enough fluids on the bike and I was dehydrated on the run but as to what happened I am at a loss????? I think the best thing is forget it and drive on. I went on a 5 mile run yesterday and had a really good run felt good and for me ran a great time so I do not know? I am getting a open water swim in this weekend and then have a sprint scheduled the following weekend and the 1/2 swim is in brackish water in the James River which will be my first salt water swim, not an ocean swim but the river does have salt at the point the swim will occur.
