Itzia- Thanks for the information. I've lost all my weight using Weight Watchers, but I'm feeling like I'm not seeing the progress I used to. Maybe switching up the way I eat might jump start my weight loss again. I will be able to read over the website this weekend and plan out my week. Thanks.

Didn't get in any activity today. I'm looking to go to the gym tomorrow for more elliptical and spin bike work. Finally broke down and ordered a trainer online, so I'm excited to not have to use the spin bike anymore soon.

Well it looks like it will be snowshoeing for a while, the snow is falling heavily and the really heavy snow is not here yet according to the weathermen? I may have to invest in some studded tires for my Mountain bike, although I did see some hearty souls out Sunday for a ride on their road bikes!
May not get much in the way of workouts for a few days, My wife is having knee replacement surgery as I type and I will be playing nurse to her for several days, not to mention I may have to
actually do some cooking for my daughters!

Itzia, Condratulations on the new bike, it looks nice!

Itzia,
I have attached the training plan in an older version.  I do use exel 2007.  Please technicolor away Laughing.
Congrats on the bike and the coach.  I think you need something with a little more flare.. maybe you can add some pink handle bar tape or those frilly things... all kidding aside my vote is for satic crystal pearl.

Mountain Dan,
I hope all goes well with your wifes knee replacement.
Remember, there is nothing wrong with cereal for dinner.

Cheers

How would one go about getting a sponsor or sponsors? I am interested in offsetting the cost of equipment and/or races.

I don't know if it is possible for an "average joe" to get a sponsor.

Jackie – Great!  Let me know if you need help with the diet.

Mountain Dan – Sorry to hear about your wife.  I hope everything goes well and you enjoy cooking for your girls.

Marcus -  Thanks!  Now I can see your plan.  I guess STR means exercises to increase strength at the gym.  Do you use the metric system for the 3 sports?  I don’t know if you are a fan, but I technicolored your plan with the Nets colours.  Thanks for your opinion on the bike, I agree, that’s the nicest one.  It’s just that the silver handle bar tape looks a little disco to me.  LOL But I could change it to pink when it’s worn out.  No frilly things though! Smile

Bill – Good question!  I’d like to know too.  This is an expensive sport.

All – Please be careful if you decide to train in the snow.

New bike thread?  Where is it Mike?

Well… it doesn’t exist yet.  The last thing I heard was that the coach is waiting for confirmation from Trek that they have a bike available in my size.  If I don’t hear from them tomorrow, then this might not work out.  Please keep your fingers crossed!

Good Evening.  It's 11pm and I am just finishing up work.  I took about an hour and half for dinner and kid's bed and an hour for shoveling, but have been working all day.  Only a couple of more days.  The sad thing is, I don't do anything exciting for work.

I could certainly put up a picture of my face, but you'll be asking for the bike back in no time

The trainer has been assembled, and I'll have the bike on it tonight or sometime this weekend.

Missed my swim this AM as the electricity went out overnight & my alarm clock didn't go off.

Itzia,
Thank you for bedazzling my plan.  Wink   The only distances that are metric are the swimming distances.  I made a very calculated guess that the length of the pool at my gym is 25 meters and not 25 yards.  Yes STR is the strength training and the number represents which routine I will do for the day.  This is one area I will most likely cut back, but I am not sure if I will cut out a day or if I will cut out a set.  Considering my body is feeling a lot better this week than it did last week, I may just cut a set to reduce time at the gym.

So today during my swim I learned two things.  1) My left arm is controlled by and  working for my competitors.  It does nothing but slow me down. I know this is easy to fix with a minor amputation and replacing it with a robotic version.
2)My breathing is a problem.  Not in the sense that I do not exhale while my head in under water, but my inhale is not working. I am not taking in a enough air. So what ends up happening is I get winded and as I get winded I gasp for more air. Then to get more air end up lifting and turning my head instead of just turning/rotating, then try to swim faster to get to the end of the pool to end the lap.  Pretty much a spiraling disaster of wrongness. Now when I run and get winded, I can easily fix it and get my breathing back into a rhythm.  So is this issue a result of not rotating my body enough?

Cheers -MG

If you've not taken lessons with a good instructor, go do so. For me, it was the guidance I needed to really 'get' swimming.

Marcus- most swimmers will have a weak side.  I notice on your swim log that you do catch up drill. Catch up drill are good drill to  work on.  You actually can watch & feel your arm coming out of the water with a high elbow, your  fingers bearly above the water.  Seeing your finger & arm slice threw the water as it enters into the water and feeling your hand & arm pulling you threw the water.  On your breathing without see you swim.  I want to say just swim more.  Like you said with runnning you fix it by breathing back into a rhythm (when I'm running I take two short inhale & one long exhale).  As you swim more your body will get use to exhaling/inhaling differently than when your running or biking.  Pretty soon your be able to control your breathing.  I dont know if you breath one side only or both side, but here is a set I do to help my breathing.
4 x 2 5.  first 25 breath every two stroke, second 25 breath every third stroke, third 25 every fouth stroke, last 25 every fifth stroke.  Your not going fast, it should be a easy to moderate swim, your controling your breath.  I would rest for 10-15 after each 25.

Bill - I don't know about getting sponsorship without being a pro triathlete.  One way I was able to get discount on races, clothing, shoe, gym membership, bike equipments, wet suit & etc. Joining my local tri club with a small fee.  I got tons of discount to all of the things I mention.  Also you get to know everyone in your area who are triathlete as well training groups for open water swim, long bike rides & run workouts - this help alot as these workout are boring & can be dangerous and maybe meeting someone who have some connection to other things as well as getting alot of informaton about race events and things you need to do triathlon (you still get alot of inform here as well).

Alex -  What does ITBS stand for?

Josh -  You sound tired and fed up.  Cheer up!  It’s only a couple of days more… I saw the video of the Arizona Ironman.  It’s awesome that you did that Josh.  It must have been a great experience for you, and crossing the finish line… Wow!  Your avatar photo must have captured one of the most satisfying moments of your life.  Congratulations!!  Laughing

Mike -  Thank you so much for the video.  I found it so motivating!  I want to be like Chrissy Wellington when I grow up.  Wink

Marcus -  I love your choice of words!  Bedazzling LOL Those excel colours are a bit bright.  Your plan doesn’t look too ambitious to me… but then I’m no expert.

Please don’t chop off your left arm.  There must be other solutions!  Observe this guy, he doesn’t seem to rotate that much.  http://www.swimtypes.com/smooth.html

Sterling - Interesting piece about swimming. Thanks!

Ailie – Still under snow?

Mountain Dan – How is your wife feeling?

I paid for my bike today.  I may get it next week or maybe in a few weeks’ time.   Yet, I’m facing a dilemma.  Training with the team is expensive not only because of their annual fee and uniform, but because the place they swim at is a nice gym and there is also a fee for each bike trip.  The reason is that a van takes the team to where the ride will take place and then follows the platoon.  That is important for many reasons you must already be familiar with, but in Mexico security is a big issue.  I couldn’t possibly train on my own.  But can I afford this?  Will I be able to keep up?  Will my ankle improve?  Will I have the drive needed to train 3 rides, 3 runs and 5 swims as the coach demands?  Will I be able to cope with everything I have to do i.e. work, children, house?  Many eyes are on me… I’m afraid to fail, I’m afraid to disappoint.

Itzia I'd take it slow and enjoy things -- getting too serious can make something enjoyable seem like work.  Congrats on the bike.  It's always exciting to get a new toy!

Itzia - ITBS stands for ITBand syndrom. As I'm not very good with the explanation, here is a link that will explained it - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iliotibial_band_syndrome
I worked with my coach and a chiro at my club to renforce my hips and my gluts in order to not overuse the ITband. and so far, I'm feeling good
I might be able to run in 2.5 weeks

and congrats on the bike !! Cool

as for your question, just be easy, wanted to do too much at the beginning will make you push harder and might remove what you enjoy when you train/race.
Just pleased yourself

Thank you Curt and Alex, you are both right.  Smile  I tend to get serious about things.  Instead, I should just relax and enjoy the ride! Do what I can according to my circumstances.

Great news about your running!  Thanks for the ITBS explanation Alex.  I get lost with so many acronyms. LOL

Good night!  It’s Friday tomorrow!  Laughing
