Happy February everyone!

I see every month as a fresh start, kind of the way most people look at New Years except I give myself 12 opportunities per year to assess my progress and make change.

For those of you who are up for it, there is a challenge forum and they start up new challenges each month. It's a fun way to achieve goals and potentially compete with yourself or other BT members. So far this month there is a peach challenge (exercise some way every day for the month - when you log a workout online your calendar changed the date from white to a peach colour), and a healthy eating/exercise challenge. Just an idea for anyone interested!

Challenge forum:

Peach challenge:

February training and nutrition challenge:

Oooo, plugs for the Challenge forum. Very nice.

Also -- I have an (un?)healthy addiction to blackberries.

Better than potato chips, I guess?

When you say "blackberries," which of these do you mean? 'Cause I think one is wayyyy healthier for you than the other!

Threejs - 2011-01-30 4:10 PM I am looking for some advice on purchasing a good tri suit.  Does anyone have any first hand experience they can share with me?
Thanks!

I'm not using a tri suit yet so I don't have experience to share here. One of our team mates might, but in the mean time head over to the "gear" section of the forum and ask. You can also scroll through previous threads in that area to see if anyone else has been taking about suits recently.

If this helps I bought a 2XU tri-suit, I would recommend it for sprint and olympic distances..The tri-suit was nice because I had no worries of changing clothes just get bike gear and go then run gear and go.. Later in the year I wore a tri top with some tri shorts.. In the sprint and olympic distance every second counts so if you dont have to worry about changing that is one last thing to stress about... No bike shorts though the chamois is too big and will slow down your swim..lol

Hope this helps..

Thanks for the great information! If you have more material you find valuable, post away. I love learning new ways to support personal development.

I checked out the link.  So helpful!  I fall into the category of saying yes to whatever screams the loudest.  I think a time map will be very beneficial.  Thanks for the info!  I am very interested in any other material you may have....

I will get this to you guys in the next couple of days. My grandfather passed away last week and so I was out of town until today to be with family and attend the services. Today was kind of a down-day, doing the grocery shopping and getting back into things, tomorrow I'll be back at it.

northernorchid - 2011-02-01 9:45 AM Hi everyone,

Looks like we're all getting excited about training -- I can tell the endorphins are spiking!

I'm back on my feet after that cold, however my roommates are now bedridden. I'm on smoothie-duty for the week, methinks.

Major success in my tri class this week. We did a 1km swim workout...I finished 25 min before everyone else, haha in all fairness I used to swim competitively, however. Maybe next week I'll do the whole swim workout arms-only.

BUT I was really happy with my run on Sunday. Last week there was a guy who was maybe 50 yards ahead for most of the run and it was my long-term goal to be able to keep up with him by the end of the course.

I not only paced him step for step this Sunday, but we had a conversation too! I honestly didn't think I was able to do that. Hooray for passing the "talk test!"

I also tried rock climbing last night...the instructor guy was like "Keep pushing, left leg power up!" but it was shaking like mad because I'd just been at the gym for an hour, and 4 hours on Sunday.
So I said "yeah, um, I did a mini-tri on Sunday, don't know if that's going to happen..." but made it to the top anyway. Tons of fun, and a great workout.

I noticed you guys were discussing wetsuits. I was thinking of getting a sports bikini and wearing that under my wetsuit with shorts, then throwing on  a top after the swim. Do you think that'd be effective??

Happy training

Glad to hear that your training is coming along nicely and that you're enjoying it!

I just made arrangements with a local indoor rock climbing place to have beginner lessons for my husband and I tomorrow morning. It's our first wedding anniversary February 6 and I have planned a bunch of smaller events to celebrate (so far, rock climbing, Dave and Busters - adult arcade, bathhouse + massage, and various meals).

I am so happy that our wedding weather looked NOTHING like this!! (For those of you not in US or Canada, storm watch 2011 is currently hammering the eastern side.) There was no snow before or during our wedding and the pictures look like it was a nice summer day.

kwynnc - 2011-02-01 11:55 AM Orchid, nicely done! I should mention tri classes to our Y and see if they would do something similar. Went to swim today and the pool was closed. Did my "run" instead - 13 min walk, 2 min run, 19 min walk. 2 miles total. The good news is that my heel isn't hurting any more than it does when I'm not running - so may as well run, right?

Hmm... I wouldn't necessarily jump into a drastic run increase. Taper up a minute or two per interval each week and keep an eye on how your heel behaves. If it's good or the same keep going, if it starts to flare up ease off to the last interval time for awhile.

What do you prefer, the one piece suit or the singlet and shorts? I haven't tried on either style but I have a feeling I would prefer the two piece.

Ohhh, why do I get so easily addicted to things? Tri sports, rock climbing, blackberries?! Now I need a tri suit, cycling shoes, AND climbing shoes. Good thing my roommate works on a berry farm

Haha, very funny, Dee. I happen to hate blackberry(TM) though...my friends who have them ignore me half the time!

Went climbing again last night with my friend's dad. He's 52 and can that man ever climb! He hung off the overhang and swung himself up over it like a crazy person.

mbasta, congrats on your anniversary! That sounds like an amazingly fun date

Yeah, the weather today is a little insane. Did you hear the THUNDERSNOW?! All that and I *still* have classes.

No hill runs today

Our area called for thundersnow, but I never got to see it. I think lightning is awsome and love to catch a rare winter glimpse of it. I'm one of those crazy people out on the front porch during lightning storms.

I got the day off work because all of our patients cancelled. I still have to write a report though, so I don't get the full snow day effect.

Got in a walk/jog regimen this morning!!  Felt great... new shoes and all.  I had to jog along with my 14 month old as I pushed her in the jogger, lots of fun, but will be nice to go solo.

Happy exercise everyone!

Probably a lot of you don't want to know this, but it's 60 and sunny here today. So...the workout went outside. Midway through week 4 of my 6-week couch-to-5K program and feeling pretty good about it. Today was first day to run 5 minutes at a time. In an effort to not look at my watch too much/too early, actually overshot the first piece and did 7 minutes instead! May not sound like much, but it's a huge accomplishment for me. Yay!

I explained the term "wogging" to my husband, as it seems to fit me to a T. Well, that term didn't stick, but for some reason, he remembers it as "jigglin.'"  Hahaha!  I do suppose there IS a lot of jigglin' going on. It's all good...it's all movement, right?

Hope you all are having a good hump-day.

There's a gap in my table dear Dee-ee dear Dee-ee, there's a gap in my table, but please don't tase me...

A gap in your table? You mean the space above Lauren's name? Deal with it. Or else, go to your dashboard and delete it. (You can do this right on the picture.)

As for the rest. Um, yeah. I try to keep the Taser collection off the pages of the Mentor group threads. However, there's always the Challenge forum. I'll just have to re-introduce you to my collection there.

Or maybe I could just post a nice Jacob's ladder here. Hm. I *do* like those Jacob's ladders.....

Haha, very funny, Dee. I happen to hate blackberry(TM) though...

Yeah, the weather today is a little insane. Did you hear the THUNDERSNOW?! All that and I *still* have classes.

No hill runs today

Well, if you're just addicted to blackberries (fruit version), then I'd say you're fine. There are WAY worse things to be addicted to. Like Blackberries (TM).

No thundersnow here. Then again, we just had RAIN. I preferred the rain.

OK, I worked out yesterday. And in the process, I did something to my lower back. I have no idea what. But now I think I understand why people complain so much when their back hurts!

Yeah, I know... ice it. I hate ice. I'm allergic to it, in fact.

Anyway, I had planned on using the treadmill tonight, but I may skip it and just stretch instead.
