Hi everyone!  My name is Jim and normaly wouldn't "intrude" but James asked if might pop in on occasion and maybe offer up some insight???  I'm a bit knowledgable in the area of Clydes/Athena or the bigger (tall) athlete and recently have been successful in a weight loss program to finally get to my race weight...  I'm thinking about authoring a brief summary on my journy soon with some pics.

As for resume, I have a couple IM's and half dozen HIM's under my belt plus a bunch of other shorter races and odds and ends...  Been doing this for... I don't know 4.5 years officially?  But doing some sort of S/B/R just about my entire life.

2011 will be a lot of shorter races but building up to IMAZ in Nov. and POSSIBLY "Race Accross the Sky", if I get in via the lottery.

Hi Jim.  I am Cheri, also know as NRG    and I have not been to my gym since last week becasue boys and snow keep getting in my way.  Any advice?

Oh yea, and keep in mind, unless that plan was made just for you, it will have it's limitations.  Sometimes you will know better than the plan.

This is actually really smart.  (Not that I didn't think that you're really smart or anything...)

But I'm going to take this advice.  I know my body and know that the training that I'm supposed to do today will just be too much and leave me sore for days.  I'm breaking up the workouts.  Thanks for helping to put that in perspective.

JIM!  Hiya.

For what it's worth, I too have also lost about 15 lbs since the beginning of the year... but honestly, I just quit drinking and that did the trick.

I hit my first Master's Swim class of 2011 yesterday and it kicked my azz! Here was the 2400 yd workout:

400 Warmup
8 x 50 kick @ :30
4 x 100 @2:00 pull
4 x 100 free (1:30, 1:34, 1:36, 1:41)
12 x 25 @ :30 (with 2 breaths only)
400 timed

They were going to continue with 25 x 25, but I had a meeting to go to. This was the longest swim I have had since Ironman Branson 70.3 workouts. I was fairly happy that I was able to keep up cause I really thought I would have struggled more than I did!

Tonight I have an 1 hr 20 min ride scheduled. It looks like it will definately be on the trainer, so I am planning on watching Spartacus and maybe something else while I pedal!

Morning all!  Yesterday was my rest day and I enjoyed it very much.  Got to throw the kids around all evening.  It was a Spongebob evening as well so my mind got a rest day too!  Back in the pool tonight and a short bike ride to get back in the swing of things.  8 weeks until the first sprint tri and I am a combination of scared/excited!  I hope everyone has a great weekend!!!

Guess with the weather it is tough, but there has to be something local you can do, even if it is a 5k or soemthing

90 minutes on the trainer. I now realize that I must get a fan.  Love to sweat, but this was ridiculous (and pretty gross).  To make things even worse, I wound up with "saddle sores".  Never knew why anyone used chamois butter - now I know.

1 hour on the trainer this morning.  Not too bad...
1 hour running inside tomorrowTongue out  Deciding whether to do treadmill or 200 meter track.  Do I go with feeling like a gerbil in a cage, or get dizzy going around about 55-60 times?

Hope everyone had a good first week of Feb training.

I seem to recall a question about swapping plan workouts around?  I personally like to keep them they way they are, since they are optimized for gains (I would assume)...  So swapping is probably not ideal.

HOWEVER, if you get the workouts IN, would be the important part (like 90%).  For example, if you moved things around to do 3 runs on 3 consecutive days, I'm thinking that last run won't be as good as if it would if you put a day in between (if that's what the plan calls for).

HOWEVER, life goes on and gets in the way, no?  I was SUPPOSED to get a long-ish bike in today but it was windy outside (and I really try not to ride the trainer for anything over 90 minutes if I can help it).  AND, my swim run combo tomorrow would have been to get in with the SUPERBOWL!!!  So I did another run and swim today after doing them yesterday.  I could tell.  Slow and bit tired.

So, tomorrow is 2.5 hrs on the road and then go to the annual superbowl party that I have been going to for years.  However, I'm REALLY going to try to avoid all the junk food, cut back on the beer, NOT get roped or peer pressured into keg stands or games of "flip cup" or "beer pong".  NO jello shots....

oh, boy...  who am I kidding?

I hope everyone is having a good weekend!  Be good-"ish" tomorrow!

Just finished up a short ride at the gym and can't believe the first week of Feb is over already  8 weeks until my first ever sprint tri.  My 5 year old son told me he can't wait to watch me win my race.  Boy, is that motivation or what.  Luckily, he'll think I win whether I finish first or last (more than likely the latter) so it will be a great moment when I cross the finish line and get to hug he and his brother.  I'm back to full strength workouts tomorrow after my shorter rest week.  Can't wait to get after it!

Hope everyone has a great Sunday afternoon of relaxation and football.  Getting ready to watch my Buckeyes try to keep their perfect record intact on the hardwood!

Great stuff!

My first run (or exercise for that matter) since being put down with a stomach bug for the past five days went better than expected.  So back in the saddle it is . . . after the Super Bowl party.  Everyone enjoy the game and all the trimmings!

So today will be the end of week #1 for our challenge.  So, theoretically, we should all have 1/4 of our number goals for thw month.  I'll start:

Swim goal: 12,672 /4 weeks = 3168
Actual swim - 3458

Bike goal: 336/ 4 weeks = 84
Actual Bike - 52

Run goal: 78.6/ 4 weeks = 19.65
Actual run - 19.83

I'm obviously lagging on the bike a bit.   I'll try harder next time.

Swim goal: 4224 yds
Actual swim - 5400
***Complete***

Bike goal: 112
Actual Bike - 23.5

Run goal: 26.2
Actual run - 7.6

I am on my way. Yesterday it was 50 degrees and I ran outside in shorts and t-shirt, today 32 and snow is falling!

I am lagging behind in every category due to the first week in Feb. being a lower inpact rest week based on my program.  I will catch up quick though since my distances crank up this week through the end of the month!
