Bishtaw... I'm sorry you have to deal with asthma, too. Mine is diagnosed as allergy induced, but I guess I have exercise induced asthma somewhere there, too. What kind do you have? Do you only have to use it during exercise? Or just swimming? I thought it was the chlorine, but obviously it wasn't. It was rough catching up to that girl and having to let her get ahead of me just because I had to stop twice to use my inhaler. I could have actually had a chance at beating her in the race! Heh. At least that's what I tell myself. Wink I've been next to last twice and last once. One day I'll be up in the middle. I can't wait.

allergy, excecise, animals, you name it.  When i was 220lbs it was alot worse, waking up at night almost gasping for air, but my son and I started fencing 2 years back, I was hooked!  So I said to myself, if I'm going to do this I need start excerciseing and get in shape or my son is going to be kicking my butt! - so long story short, as the weight came off, the asthma got alot better.  You'll see !  No more waiting till the mail order inhalers are coming in the mail!  I evan have extras now.  I always have one w/ me just a mental thing, but the harder I train the less I use it.

Keep working it, it sounds like your on the right track being here.

Later everyone!

Have I ever mentioned my favorite saying that: those who matter don't mind.

Those who mind don't matter.

I love life.

Artemis... thanks for standing up for me in that thread. That guy's being a jerk for no reason and I'm really upset about it. I just completed a challenge I set for myself after 6 months of training and he's completely devaluing it. It's got me in tears and I'm sure he's thrilled.

I'm still going to go work out tonight. It's bike day for me tonight.

I'm really quite confused by what is going on in that thread.  I think you should be very proud of yourself and what you accomplished.  You kept going through a very tough race.  THAT is what makes a triathlete!!  I am very proud of you and I hope you are very proud of yourself.

1) When you quote a message, make sure you only have as many [ QUOTE] as you have [ /QUOTE] otherwise we can't see your message.

2) The thread has been deleted.  It is for the best. I know you are standing up for GoofeeGirl, but threatening him isn't going to help anything.  It's probably best if we drop it for now.

Well it took 10 days to recover from my marathon,  I ran the same 2 mile loop around my house 3 times before i could run the entire distance.  Each time I tried I would have to stop and walk, but alittle less each time and finally this morning i made it!   It was my feet that took the most abuse.  Good lesson learned for me.

I think my saturday long run will be very enjoyable and a reasonable distance!!!!!  thank goodness.

Is everyone weight training?    How many times per week?

1750 yd swim followed by 1 hr 40 min spin class.......That will do for today.

On a side note, my 400 yd times are improving.  Timed my 2nd 400 @ 8:00.  Thought it was a mistake so I times another a little later, 8:20.  Not bad for me.  January 2010 I did my first 400 yd in 22 mins.  Much improved, but still can get better.....

Hope everyones' week is going well.  Anyone racing this weekend.  My son and I have race #2 of the series this Sunday.  Nothing like a nice 4 hour drive home after racing.Cry

First, glad to hear you are recovering nicely.  Second, yes, I weight train.  I have been weight training for several years now.  I weight train 4 - 5 days a week.  Perhaps a little too much to some standards, but I really enjoy being "buff".  I pride myself in being an arm wrestling champion.

Good luck to everyone who is racing this weekend.

My work finally opened up the new gym for employees. With the weather either raining or snowing, this is a relief. I haven't been able to get as much running and biking in and this new option will help. Now it's time to put the nose to the grindstone.

@ Goofy girl: I have read the thread that got removed. The only thing I want to say about your race and the tread is some wise thing my trainer said: "Though we might worship the winners it are the ones at the back of the back that make the biggest achievements".

A big congrats on your race.

For the ones who a wondering who are racing this weekend. Well tomorrow will be D-Day: My first tri ever

And I already learned that I hate the final week before the race. Since monday I've trained less then 3 hours while I normally plan for about 10 hours. So currently sitting at work craving for a good run or swim or whatever. As long as I don't have to sit.But I guess that is just my body letting me know it is ready.

Looking back I'm currently way ahead of were I expected to be today. Retaining my original goal of finishing with a smile, and smile hard if it is within 1h30m I think I will be capable of doing better even in the right circumstances.

At least I have been calculating my times: 500m swim 12min, 20K bike 40min, run 28min = 1h20min. That leaves me with 10 minutes for T1 and T2 plus lose some time because I won't be completely fresh during bike and run. On the other hand. I feel that the given times are conservative times I can do quite easily in a training setting. So my new gradesystem

  • > 1h30m: As long as I smiled I'm ok
  • > 1h25m <1h30m: Yay I made my goal!
  • > 1h20m <1h25m: WOW, really! Do the happy dance.
  • <1h20m: nah that is insane the clock must be broken.

But regardless of the result tomorrow. I know I will finish. I know I will push it at some point. But most of all I'm very proud of what I achieved already knowing where I came from. And I'm very pleased to have found this great sport.

All have a great weekend and see you all on the other side of tri-life

Wow. I hope you're feeling better now that you've recovered. I can't even imagine doing a marathon!!!

I'm doing a combination of weight training and strength exercises with a personal trainer once a week and a second time a week I train on my own. But I also train for Tri 6 days a week.

OMG. How did you survive the spin class after all that swimming??? You're a tough one! Good for you for increasing your speed, too. That's something to be proud of.

No races for me. Hope you have a good race with your son. Sorry about the long drive home.

Phew! That was a lot of replying there, but I didn't want to ignore anybody. Heh.

I've been up since 3 a.m. for some dumb reason. Hopefully it won't mess up my bike ride today. The husband is joining me for the ride. He hasn't been on his bike in over 2 years, so this may be a short ride, but fun nonetheless. The weather should be nice albeit a bit on the hot side. As long as we get out early we should be fine. I would like to think that I won't fall asleep on the bike... maybe a nap afterwards will be appropriate?

Here's wishing everyone a great Saturday!

Sitting in the Hotel room wishing the rain would stop.  Rained most of the 3 1/2 hours drive here.  Rained the entire pre-ride of the course.  Rained the entire time since then.  There is enough sand and mud that it will be a slow, slick and gritty race.  I just love the CONSTANT sound of sand in disc brakes.  Hopefully we won't have to replace too many parts after tomorrow.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend racing, training or just relaxing............Cool
