ceilidh - 2011-07-21 9:20 AM I had a meeting last night of a group I am a board memeber of. We had it on a person's boat. There were munchies, adult beverages and this view. THAT is how to have meetings.

Do you need any more board members?

You don't want to do that. (trust me)

You can just come to the meetings.

I could pour the drinks for you during the meetings.

Better yet, we'll just go out there with out having to have a meeting! You can still pour drinks if you want.

Got my new tri suit in the mail today. The old one wouldn't fit. So I splurged.

Still look like a sausage, but at least it is a trendy sausage!

Speaking of books...

Can someone recommend a series for an 11 year old boy. He just finished the Legends of the Guardians series. He loved it, but he has always had a thing for owls. He has read the Harry Potter Books, The Chronicles of Narnia, and the Percy Jackson books. He prefers series over just a single book. He is asking me for something to read, and I don't want to turn down that request.

Good morning!

Check out the Artemis Fowle series by Eoin Colfer. They're pretty good and I think there are 5-6 books so far (I know we own 5). Another decent series are the Pendragon books, but check the reviews to make sure you think they're age-appropriate for your son. Garrett was about 11-12 when he first read them and did fine, fwiw.

Both good series.  Some others to check out:

Children of the Lamp series - P.B. Kerr

Fablehaven series - Brandon Mull

Underland Chronicles - Suzanne Collins

Maximum Ride series - James Patterson

Bartimaeus trilogy - Jonathan Stroud

Faerie War Chronicles - Herbie Brennan

Tapestry series - Henry Neff

Acknowledging that I have ZERO knowledge of age-appropriate reading for pre-teens, just HOW does Neal know all of this???????

Evidently, Neal has facets!

Evidently indeed! I have nooks and crannies in my English muffins - that's about as close to facets as I get

Hey Ghoulies! Just another usual day here. Bad news: the degree I want will not be convening this fall, so no Structural Health degree. Good news: The degree program for Medical Device Engineering IS convening so I'm applying for that instead. Wish me luck...

Ann, you called it. I ran this morning and it was horrid. On the drive home tonight (6:00pm) it was 105. It has cooled off to a balmy 97. I am going to swim tomorrow. Unfortunately, not wfh so it will be a long day.

I thought I heard people talking about me.

Hi ghoulies!

Hi Neal!!! Long time no chat. Hope IMMOO training is going well. RAGBRAI must be coming up soon. Try to stay on your bike this year.

Hi Kim!  That is the Ragbrai goal this year: no flying supermans over the handlebars!

Well his Mom is a librarian...so that probably helps as far as what he read when he was younger....and he reads them now too still. Haha. I like young adult sometimes too....The Hunger Games and Harry Potter were really good!

I kind of did the reading thing in reverse.  By the time I was 10 or 11 I was reading "grown up" books.  Dean Koontz, Stephen King, Lord of the rings and other fantasy series and such.  Only after my sister encouraged me to read the Harry Potter books 7 or 8 years ago did I start reading some of the other young adult fiction.

It was down to 95 at 9:00 last night when I took the dogs for a walk. We didn't go far.

It was 85 at 5:30 this morning. That's not good, is it?

I think that since we are all already hot and sweaty, we should just toss back a couple of Fat Frogs, get in a Ghoulie Pile, and enjoy the weekend!
