Veteran 179 The Woodlands, Tx | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas : Official Thread se7930 - 2013-03-24 8:56 PM I rode the course on Saturday as well, except I didn't go towards Anderson - from the market street area to Richards and back for a total of 103. I don't use Garmin but the Strava app I use said 1,677 feet. It was a good ride on Saturday but we rode in some light rain during th first half. Great ride and run on the course this weekend. We started from the Middle School that is just north of the Walmart on Woodlands Parkway. Did the entire course north of the school, but also did the loop west of Richards twice so we would have 100 miles when we got back to the school (ended up with 102 total miles). Saturdays weather was awesome! Cool, mostly overcast, and the winds werent bad at all. Ran about 5 miles off the bike when we got to the hotel and dropped our gear, then had dinner and beers at Grimaldis. Ran the course this morning then left to come back to Dallas. All told is was 102 miles on the road and 20 miles running this weekend! Legs are tired and sore for sure! For those who ride the course every weekend, my Garmin showed 3500 ft of elevation, but that just doesnt seem right? Ive never had much faith in the elevation on my garmin, but would like to know what some of the regulars see when the ride the course. Thanks! |

We were wheels down around 9:20am and it was dry the entire ride. We did catch some light mist/rain drving down but that tapered off around Huntsville |

I'm a week away from moving to TN, feeling good, need more bike time though. Long days are getting..well...long. Did a century on Saturday, did a 15-mile run last Thursday and 4K yards in the pool last Friday, not to mention all of the other smaller training sessions during the week. This week is big also. I have a 17-mile run on Thursday, and a 110 ride on Saturday - these are my long days.
I'm tired. |

Pro 4313 McKinney, TX | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas : Official Thread Papson....just sent. However...as stated, it may be the 17th one you've gotten. LOL My training has ramped up into the 10+ hour range and is going up. Since I F'd off a lot in the beginning of my plan, I'm having to rearrage and adjust. Just ready for 5/16 to get here.....and then get the fire going for the race. 5/18 will be here soon. Quick training question..... My long rides, (and bricks) are as follows (on the weekends) 80 miles 85/12 brick 100 100/15 brick 75 75/17 brick 40 Race Day...... Thoughts? Anything I need to do (or do less of)? The weekdays, twice a week, I'm riding 3:30 - 4:30 on the trainer and in 3 weeks, I'll be doing 4:30 - 5 hour sessions. My main concern, and focus, is the bike. I have yet to ride outside this season as I can only ride outside on the weekend and the weather hasn't been the greatest. Stright up Andy Potts style. HAHA. I will get out closer to time and get some real hills (and not "lowest gear standing on trainer hills"). |

I'm tired but my motivation is high because I'm glad I'm at where I'm at. What I'd hate is to be stressed out for lack of training. I'm not doing Galveston, maybe next year. All of my effort and training is going into IMTX. I plan on going down to Galveston to watch much of the race though. Edited by JAngell 2013-03-26 2:45 PM |

I'm not a fan of really long runs off the bike. I'd think it would negatively effect your recovery. Just my $.02 |

Completed the Tall Texan 70.3 in Boerne, Tx last Sunday. 50 degree temp and 25 mph winds, but I was able to pace myself well. Came away with a slightly sprained ankle from the run, and a sore/slightly strained mid inner thigh (adductor maybe?). So a little beat up physically, but felt great cardiovascular wise. Long ride tomorrow then speed work Sunday chasing my son on an Easter egg hunt. What's everyone got on tap for the weekend? |

And an 80mile ride (or 4:30 on the trainer....which the weather looks uncooperative so more than likely it'll be there) Sunday, after church, lunch, "speed work", and driving home, I have an 8 mile run scheduled. |

103/4 brick today. Rest week going into Galveston and then back at it. Yeah, great group. Had three different pace groups. Ride with the 18-20 because I didn't want to get dropped in all honesty. Broke out with a few other fellas and we averaged 19.6 mph even taking a wrong turn and having to navigate through downtown Magnolia so it was a great ride. We attacked the down hills - did not coast.Nailed the nutrition but probably could have drank more water. I did lose a bottle somewhere - probably the train tracks. Unfortunately my coach has be training through Galveston for a full, proper taper prior to IMTX. |
