Got a quick run in over lunch today, i'm grtting pretty sick of the cold and snow already! I'm out of town this whole weekend and highly doubt i'll get any workouts in tomorrow or sunday. That's alright tho as i've been very consistent in january and could use a day or two off. Everyone have a safe weekend!

Picked up the new bike today (pics to come, no time yet), just in time for the Tour.  Of course I don't have a pedal wrench so while I was able to get the pedals off the new bike, I couldn't transfer my old ones ON to my new bike.  I'm thinking of actually just picking up new pedals so I have both bikes fully set up and able to go.  Busy day tomorrow to get my swim in first thing in the morning then get all this bike business taken care of and get ready for the first ride of the Tour.

Good swim this AM for me.  Did all 100's, 150's and a 200.  Previously I've been mixing in 100's with my 50's but today I just kind of said I was doing all 100's, and I did, and I didn't die, who would have figured?  My pace was a bit slower, which I'm 100% ok with, but even after the 200, which was my last set, I could have gone more.  I was just working on easy breathing and propelling myself through the water.  My lats are sore as hell, I think I was really initiating the movement with my back.  I'm sure my form is still miserable, and I'll take a beating once I start my lessons, but in my mind being able to swim longer and push myself to do so without panicking was my first true hurdle, so I'm psyched.

Off to the LBS to price out new pedals and get a pedal wrench, then the first leg of the Tour tonight.

Did my 20' TT last night.

Despite pretty low volume biking the last few months I still managed to set a new record. 291w avg... so close yet so far from that mystic 300w. Still, 4.3 w/kg is acceptable at the moment.

Trek 1.5, 64 cm.  I'm slacking on the pictures, but now it's all mounted up on the trainer.  Got it for an absolute steal because my cousin worked at a bike shop for pretty much his whole life and I ski/snowboard/do stupid stuff with another buddy of his that more or less runs the place.  After reading through a ton of other posts of people always asking "Should I get a road or a TT?" I went with the road.  It seemed to make sense from all angles for me right now.  If I'm still kicking around in a few years and serious about everything then maybe I'll invest in a TT.

I'm absolutely amazed at the difference a new bike makes.  Obviously so far only tested on the trainer, but it's just so smooth.  Never knew how worn out the shifters, chain and cassette were on my other bike.  I just busted out the same workout that I did two weeks ago with I'd say 85% of the effort and I even raised my FTP by a few points.  So far, so good.  We'll see if I can make it through this 9 days of rides.

That is crazy.  I can't even imagine pushing that kind of power for that long.  Awesome job.  Is 300 THE number when it comes to TT?

That's brutal man.  How old is your son?  Hopefully things slow down a bit and you can get back at it.  I know the feeling with vacation time.  My company does it hourly (PTO), I think I get the equivalent to 3 1/2 weeks or so.  At the end of the year I'm trying to take time or cash it out, right now not working is not an option really.  Maybe you can just take a few easy random days off, sometimes those are the best.

Sounds rough, but holy moly! 3 weeks in two months is pretty sweet! I would have a BUNCH of long weekends in my future I think

Hope the lil' man get's a bit more settled.

Manage to beat the Pool closing?

Sweet! Nothing bad to say about any Trek.

I think a road bike is the more sensible choice for a bike if it's going to be your primary bike. A TT bike is nice but it's not something I'd want to ride every day.

No no certainly not "THE"  number for anything other than my ego. If I ever get to 5w/kg I'll be tickled purple... probably not for a LONG time down the road though.

Note to self - Don't go to the pool at noon time on Sunday.  The local Y has a small pool, only 4 lanes, and during open swim there is one lane of lap swim but a lot of the times it's not roped off when I get there.  I went yesterday and there were so many people in the pool and the rope wasn't up so I wasn't going to be a jerk (although it is the rules) and rope off 1/4 of the pool just for myself.  I just have to get there right when it switches over from aerobics to open swim so I'm sure to get a lane.  Knew it wouldn't be much of an issue as I'd be doing the 2nd leg of the tour at night so I'd be getting a good workout in.  It was tough and it's just going to get tougher.

I swim in a Y with 2-4 lanes as well, middle of the weekend days are awful!

What does everyone have on tap for this week?
And more importantly, how is everyone feeling that was sick?

I'm finally starting to get back into things.

Have my total weekly run mileage back up to a stunning 12miles a week, have started lifting and doing core work, and back in the pool for a few short swims.

Hopefully as weather clears I can slowly start replacing the lifting with more of the swim/bike run as roads and my fitness permit.

Good swimming this morning. I not sure how I'm meant to feel after I've trained, I'm used to training for strength and being completely exhausted after a session, should I feel like that after training for endurance?

Hey at least they had a deal working with the Y... access to the pool is tough when you're out of town (or it always is for me)

Avoid injury at all costs :P

Wichita... man I almost married a girl that lives there. Avoid all Nurses!

Usually after a swim I feel pretty energized. (I do swim at like 4a.m. though)  After some longer runs and swims I can feel a bit rough. It's not the same kind of exhausted as a hard day at the weights though.

haha I can honestly say I've never seen a pool that's open at 4am! I'll need to just see, still finding my limits I think.

Doing a new sport is fun!

5 months is a tough age.  My son is 18 months and he's a handful but he's on a great sleep schedule which lets me train at night and during naps on the weekends.  It's still really early in the season to make up time on the swim, I know I need to as well.  Plenty of time to get back to it though.
