Hi David

Noticed that your group is still open and wanted to see if I might join? Looking to enter my first Tri in August. Thanks.

Hey everyone,

It has been a really long time since I've posted. The past month has been pretty crazy but good crazy. After 30 hrs. of labor my wife gave birth to our first born. He was a big boy so things didn't go as planned. (11lbs 9oz, 22.5 in). We spent a week in the hospital because he caught pneumonia from the long labor and C-section. Everyone is home, healthy and happy.

With that its time to get back into training so I can make my boy proud. Luckily I haven't gained any weight because I sure as hell haven't been watching what I eat. I need to get some good training in but not push it so much I injure myself. (1st sprint is 8/15/13).

Its great to see the new faces and I'm so glad this group stayed together. It was and I'm sure still will be a great place for advice and motivation.

.... Anyone try that new New Castle blonde?

They thought he would be large but no one expected a 3 month old. My wife went to almost 42 weeks! I keep telling her to do a tri because she has the endurance for it.

Sounds like your wife and I have similar labor skills. I was told I got the "Full Spa Package" since I got to experience all that the hospital offered. Although mine wasn't even 8 pounds -so I'm not really that tough :-)

Congrats on your baby!

Went for my first swim in a looong time. Fortunately, the lane ropes and the wall prevented me from going in a circle due to one lame a$$ weak arm...Dr's appt. #3 tomorrow. Frick, my tri season is slipping away!

Yeah she does! My last one was over 10lbs so your reference to a 3 month old makes me laugh; I always say she was a month old when she was born too.

I have lately been on a tear of doing events with out training that needs to stop- so I have to get back in the groove.

Yesterday I ran the Bolder Boulder (10k) and the week before I did a 62 mile bike ride. Both extremely under prepared. Let's just say I'm a little sore.

I did actually drink the Michelob Ultra they handed me at the finish however :-)

I hope everyone is having a great season- I'll do some reading to catch up.

Kate - so glad to have you back! We won't hold drinking a Michelob Ultra against you - after 62 on the bike anything is bound to taste good.

Hi All - I've been AWOL for the better part of 10 days and I apologize for that. Long story short - work continues to suck the life out of me and we've been haggling over my contract since March with no resolution. I've given them my final offer... I'll either be teaching (what I love) or having a chance to spend a lot more time with my kids (who I love). For those of you praying types - prayers for peace with the decision I'm gonna have to make hopefully later this week.

I have been working out - so that's good! I got in a 3.5 mile trail run as well as 800 in the pool this morning. Not sure why - but my left knee hurt for about 10 minutes. Then I got in the pool and the pain went away. Pretty cool. What was uncool was the woman in the lane next to me who was at least 10 years older who kept lapping me... she had a Triathlon Magazine water bottle so I know she is a member of the "club".

Hope everyone has a good week!

PS - DId anyone figure out how to add a table so we could do our weekly goals?

Good luck at the docs tomorrow. I know the pain in your arm sucks but it could be worse - you could be suffering through the same pain Kevin has been going through this weekend.

Hey Lenny - Congrats on becoming a dad! It is, to steal a phrase, the toughest job you will ever love. I'm sorry to hear that the delivery didin't go smoothly but I am glad that Mom and baby are now home and happy!

Take your time getting back into the swing of things - pushing it too hard (as your wife can attest too) is not always the best way of doing things

I don't think I had had a new castle blond - was it good?

There's a BT app for the iPhone, don't know if it exists for Android or Windows. It's bare-bones, lets you enter workouts at a lower level of detail than the full site, but it does sync to your account and the workouts I log on my phone show up on here as well.

Doing lousy on the 12/17, today's bike/run will only be my 4th. I was traveling all last week and expected to get in some workouts since we have access to a great pool, but only made it once.

    How's everyone else's weekend going?

Get your a$$ out on the road!

I agree, you cannot live on celery sticks and rice cakes. sometimes ya gotta let loose and carb load..er, or something like that!
I am sitting at 10. Should reach 12 tomorrow. Going to try swimming in morning and a bike ride at lunch!

Well, it ain't gonna happen for me this month. Dawn run and lunchtime cycle today, but that only puts me at 6. I'd have to do two workouts a day for the next three days, and I suspect I'd break something at that rate, so I'm going to humbly accept jeers and get serious about the next one. Should have been more diligent that week on the road.

Well managed to get signed up for my first race. July 7th and it's all official. This weekend I am signing up for my Rev3 Oly in November. I think that there may be another sprint in September since my son is racing. That all depends on how my training is going closer to it. How long does the USAT card take to get to me?

Thanks for having me! I've been pondering triathlons for a while and think I've finally talked myself into giving it a try. Still have LOTS of training to do. I'm doing as you suggested and copied your intro. Let me know if you have any other questions.

    NAME: Bill, 41 years old.

STORY: I've been athletic all my life. Mainly baseball and football up until my junior year of college. Always fast-twitch types of sports. Got into running with my wife about 3 years ago. I've battled various injuries through this process but my competitivness won't let me give up. I was really making a lot of progress last summer and got hurt Labor Day weekend training for a 5K. I ran the race hurt and still set a PR. I am just now trying to get back into training and want a goal to shoot for.

FAMILY STATUS: Married to a very supportive woman. We have two daughters ages 5 and 8. I'm a teacher/coach and have my summer off. I'll be Mr. Mom for the next two months!

CURRENT TRAINING: I have not been training much over the past 6-8 months. Just enough running to stay in fair shape. I'm a small framed guy and have typically lost weight pretty easily. Tomorrow morning I'll be on my bike for the third time in a week. Hopefully I can lose 10-12 pounds this summer. Swimming is a whole other story. Haven't done much in the past two decades! Was a fair swimmer earlier in life. Just need to get in the water and see how it goes!

THIS YEAR'S RACES: I haven't raced either. May enter a 5k sometime in the next month so I can see where my fitness level is.

2013 RACES: I'm considering a duathlon at the end of June and possibly my first tri the first part of August. Just have to see how things go. A couple 5k's will probably work their way in there somewhere.

BEER PREFERENCE: Do I have to pick just one? I drink just about everything. Sam Adams, Abita, Coors Light, Bass...I could go on and on!

I'm also on my way to 7/11 for the Coors. I promise, that'll be the first thing on the agenda Monday. With nothing to show for this week but an incredibly sore B@&, and some kind of shade of black and blue, I'm hoping for some colors of life for next week. I have grandiose plans to dig out the weight bench out of the abyss that is my garage and have a fully functioning weight set on my back patio so that I can start rivaling some of you crossfit maniacs on this page. Throw in some s/b/r, and I have the makings of a full fledged fitness plan. Goal is to get down to a happy and healthy 170 by the fall, let's say by Sept. 1.
Tomorrow is Game 7. Go HAWKS! Going out to local watering hole for brews to catch the game. I'll have a full report tomorrow evening.

Either you go "take care of it. or I will."
