Favorite Training Places: In the woods
Triathlons Completed: 0
Current Goals: Xterra SE Championship & any 12 /24 hour mtn bike race I can get!

Obviously I'm not the 'normal' triathlete, heck, I'm not one until I do a tri race, right?! Anyway, I train like a triathlete just to keep it interesting and mix things up and I've been wanting to do a tri so I figure why not this year. This spring has been a blur to me for personal reasons and I'm blowing off my planned race schedule for the year which included a 5-race 12 hour mtn bike series just to do something different this year. I doubt there'll be any HIM or IM distance races for me unless they're in the woods and I haven't seen anything longer than the Xterra Championship courses so I'll do one of those finally (if I can get some motivation back soon to get back in the pool).

So....greetings and thanks in advance for the tips, entertainment, and such.

Welcome, Chad.  BT will be especially useful to you since you may not have that many triathletes near you (but you may be surprised).

    6.  2009 -- Jekyll Island Turtle Crawl Sprint Triathlon -- Georgia

Current Goals:
My first Olympic Triathlon on July 11, 2010 -- The Chattanooga WaterFront Tri

I have been using an old mountain bike with slick tires on it for my bike but I recently upgraded to a road bike -- I LOVE IT!  I still need to buy shoes and clips..... does anyone have any advice for this effort?  I am an experienced biker (commuting and for fun) but I have limited race biking experience.  Also, I'm in the market for a bike computer.... an advice?

My most difficult event is the swimming portion.  I have been working with a swim coach the last year or so to try to overcome some of my open water fears and work on my swimming strategies.  If I finish the 1.5 K swim that will be an enormous accomplishment for me.  I hope to finish in 35 minutes.  For reference, my first tri swim was 750 meters and I finished it in 25 minutes with lots of breaks to freak out in the open water .... I have made some progress (although it has been slooooowwww progress) over the last 7 years.

I am interested in participating in bike rides and long runs in and around Roswell.

just 7 weeks to go Laughing.....

Sue

Hey Michael, welcome to BT. As you can see from this thread there are a lot of Atlanta area triathletes.  There are plenty of group training opportunities.  You might want to also check out a tri-club as well, such as the North Atlanta Multisport Club or Peachtree Tri Club.

And, yes, a road or tri bike will make a huuuuge difference!
