Subject: RE: I'm a post killerOk, the mouse was friggin' creepy, and I don't get the picture. Art and me is not a good combination.
In college, I took a class (required, not by choice ), and one assignment was to go and look at some artwork and write about our thoughts on it, and possibly compare it to other artwork in the building. This being a Catholic college, a lot of the permanent art was religious in nature. Anyway, I go to this showing or whatever. The art is string. Yarn, painted different colors. No lie. WTF is that? Well, I look at it, and I go to write my paper, and I have 2 options: lie about it, write what I think she wants to read, or be honest. I decided to go with honesty. I wrote taht the art did nothing at all for me, evoked no emotion, and my only thought was that the space would've been better utilized by a shelf or lamp. I got an A, but when I got the paper back, the teacher asked me if I was dead inside.
I'm too utilitarian, I suppose. But then, where I see creativity and beauty, most people wouldn't understand what they were even looking at. |
