houston-tri-mama - 2007-07-02 11:51 AM anyone have a good quick cure for swimmer's ear?  dear God does this hurt!

I tried this one: low strength hydrogen peroxide mixed with  alcohol + glycerine( standard ear drops). Hydrogen peroxide makes it bubble and loosens up the wax. Then flush it with warm water using a syringe. Recently I just did the flushing part and it worked too - just took longer...

Happy belated birthday Bopper.

Mila, I was pretty sure pink hot was hotter than red but I thought I would check. I'm assuming a pink bike is much faster than a red bike?

I'm sure my red bike would turn pink if I washed it.. since that's what happens to my red & white clothes when I wash them..   so I guess I 'll just stick witha  dirty bike instead

Happy 4th of July!

Now, on to more pressing issues...

1.  Bopper, that is GREAT news!!!!  I'm so happy to hear that you'll be back in action.

2.  Oh no... swimmer's ear is no fun... hope you're feeling better soon, Cathleen.

3.  While it is true that I have a hot pink mountain bike, my road bike is actually silver platinum with some lavender undertones.  However, the accessories are, in fact, of the pink variety.  Plenty'o'pictures available for your viewing pleasure in my album.  Speed?  When I feel like it.  Cool?  Not so concerned with that... but the SASS FACTOR is clearly off the chain .

4.  I know Nate raced today (congrats!)... anyone else have a 4th of July sumpin' sumpin' going on?  How about this weekend?  Who's racing?

Great news Kevin - just don't overdo it and be back to being sidelined! especially for that race in a month!

now to some complaining on my part.... had major pipe leak yesterday, ceiling is riped apart from one end to other.  We have home warranty so we called and plumber came out today and found another "area" of leakage but when he riped that ceiling apart - found no source except to suggest maybe rain water is entering from siding that shows wear... Now I have been telling my dear husband for months it needed replacing but does he listen to me???  Of course not....

Men, listen to your wives/GF's - we do at times know what we are talking about!

back to regular programming....

Hmmm... did this at least make you temporarily forget about the ear pain??

Sorry to hear... that sounds like major house trauma!  I hope the time to repair is minimal.  Thank goodness you have the home warranty.

it was a temporary lapse in ear pain.... the other pain is just now developing as husband has decided everything I have been telling we need to do MUST be done - but it's his pain not mine....

new siding on E & W house and deck

new windows

tear wall paper off downstairs

repair ceiling from leak - involves scraping off texture crap...

painting

new toilet/sink in downstairs bathroom

AND THANKFULLY  new tile/hardwood flooring downstairs

(I'm hinting at new counter tops also not to mention knocking a wall down) but I won't count on that happening)

I'm so happy I could cry - I am finally getting a decent floor!!!!

my earpain in dimished mostly by the fact thatl I'll be gone for all this re-modeling and won't have to live in it.  My ear feels better already!

Mila, It was my birthday on the 4th. I turned 42. Thanks for saying I ran fast but it was the 1st time I got girled in a 5k or 10k. She came by me like I was standing still but she did give me some words of encouragement as she passed me. I almost got F.O.G.ed too, but managed to hold him off at the end with my HR maxed at 189. I don't mind getting my butt kicked biking or swimming but for some reason I don't like it when its running even though I'm just starting to run again.
Have a good weekend everybody.
I probably will do some more hiking on the Maah Daah Hey trail if I get up before the temp is in the 90's.

Don't worry my mom & younger sisters don't hold back on the commentary if they see something that irritates them.

No, no, not irritated at all, just being my sassy self .

Anyone racing Chattanooga this weekend by chance?  I'm heading up there to be the jockstrappingest jockstrapper around.

Hello all, sorry I have been ghost for awhile.  My mom had to go to the hospital with an infection (not too serious) but I did a few nights on the floor of the hospital.  She lost her father (my grandfather) this weekend as well so it has been a bang up month. Needless to say, my training has fallen off and I look to begin to pick it up seriously again this week.

Jim, you said you were going to Ellijay, where abouts?  My family has a cabin on Walnut Mtn and I have found that the rides up there can be invigorating (although you might need mace for some of the stray dogs).  I did a 40 mile last weekend up there and it was great.  The local bike store has some brutal rides you can do and the main guys brother does rides out of there as well (although they start at 6:30 am) a Time I could meet.

I hope all is well.

You've had a rough couple of weeks... hope everything settles down for you and remains nice and calm for a long time!

thanks everyone for your thoughts.  I really need to get that training fever back again just to gain focus.  I am scheduled for a tri in Augusta Ga this month and that will give me some inspiration (assuming it is not on the same day as my daughter's birthday).

I off tomorrow for a month to the UP of Michigan with kids in tow.  I race sister Bootygirl on Aug 4 in a Spr/Oly distance race - say a prayer that I 1) complete race alive and  2)KICK BOOTYGIRLS BUTT....

Ssshhhhh.... it's a secret but I have t-shirts for my kids to wear reading "Mama kicks Booty"... I'll post pictures when I get back with race report.

Don't know if I'll have internet so if not - happy training everyone - stay safe and healthy - and I'll  catch up with everyone in mid August.

Why can't I get motivated to train more often.  I had a good day today (compared to my past month).  I did spin class and then went and swam a mile.  I just seem to have lost some of my vigor.  GRRRRR it is frustrating.
