What training plan are you using?

I'm using the intermediate plan off the Grandma's website.
http://www.grandmasmarathon.com/pdf/IntermediateMarathon2008.pdf

Not exactly scientific or customized, but it's a starting point.

Starting tonight I'll be in Birkie mode, and then Sunday I fly to Baton Rouge for a week-long meeting so I will try to pop in here once in a while while I'm gone.

I used the vDot method that Birkie posted. I did a 9.5mi run last Sep where I raced it well, plugged that race time into the vDot calculator, then it spit out my different paces for my Disney marathon training.

I had a good weekend. Got in some running, swimming, and snowboarding. I wanted to try to get out on the bike, but the weather did not cooperate.

How are you feeling for your marathon?

Jim, how did the race go this weekend? I looked up the results and it looks like you did good. Did you meet your expectations?

I feel OK.... been dealing with soem ITB issues again... Advil before the run seems to help- not an ideal situation but what can I do?

Im really scared Im gonna get sick- EVERYONE around me seems to have something or another.... thatd be my luck

AND Im not sure how Im going to run yet....... guess Ill see how i feel day of.  Im pretty sure I can do a 4 hour marthon- but I think if Im feeling good I can maybe do a 3:45.   So not sure how I will pace myself yet.   Be conservative or put it out there and see what happens (2cnd option is WAY more me )

I had a good weekend - Swam some drills on Saturday, then went and had a very successful bike positioning session with LBS. I know it was successful because I went straight out and rode 20 miles, and my right knee didn't bother me at all (had a little nagging soreness before). Bike shop guy moved my seat up a little, changed aerobar position.

Sunday I ran 8 miles, which went better than last weekend, when I ran same distance and didn't feel well/got tired quickly.

Now if I could just not eat so much this week!

Today's run put me at 100 miles for February meeting my goal for the month. Yay! Also seeing improvement in my swimming. Today I just went out and did a long swim. Ending up just barely breaking 30 minutes for a 1 mile long swim.

Jim:

I took a spill on my bike yesterday. Lacerations on my right knee, elbow and side close to my thigh. My bike seemed to be ok, I could shift gears and get myself home ok. I'm getting my bike checked right now to see if there is any damage I can't see. My tri is on March 9 so I need your advice on training at this time. I don't feel any pain when I walk, should I be taking it easy or should I just keep on with my training?

Glen, glad to hear that you survived the crash. Yes, we need pics

Remind me of the length of your tri.  In reality, there is not a lot you can do with only 11 days out to improve your fitness significantly.  If you don't feel any pain when you run or swim I would keep up with your training.  Its an early season race so I wouldn't get too concerned about doing a huge taper for the race (again, depending on lenght of race).  In the longer-term perspective with regard to your season its not worth losing a lot of training time tapering for a race that probably doesn't have a lot of importance with regard to your overall season.  I'm assuming that your March 9 race is not an "A" race for the season.  If that is not the case let me know and we can re-think that.

If I had known you guys were interested in pics I would have taken some yesterday when I had the spill. The wounds are not as bad as they were after having being bandaged all day.

The length of my tri is a sprint level, it's the first tri of the year. I was thinking of doing 2 or possibly 3 tris this year. I'll have to phone the pool to see how they feel about me swimming in the pool with road rash. I should have my bike back on Friday, so I guess I'll try running tomorrow.

Thanks.

Go out fast, pick it up in the middle, and finish with a kick!  Kidding.   Just stay within yourself and enjoy it. Good luck!

Ha! That's what I did at Disney but had no kick left in me at the end. So don't do what I did. If you haven't already, consider adjusting hydration strategy (I needed for electrolytes) for the different climate (cold in midwest durign training, much warmer for the race)

Have a great race, Tammy!
