I think I would have been happier with 2 70.3s for next season. What's done is done, so I better wrap my head around what I have facing me next year. Lots of time before then. That's my thing. I want to truly race the 70.3 first. My first HIM my average HR was 147 on the bike and 160 on the run. Second on it was 158 on the bike and 166 on the run. So now I know I can hold that type of intensity for 5 hours. More volume and getting faster along the way I want to crush one next year. I was looking at my Olympic results from last year. In both bikes I averaged 1.3 MPH more than my best Olympic bike. My worst HIM run of the two I was still 11 sec/mile faster than my best Olympic and my better HIM run was 50 sec/mile better than my best Olympic run. So I'm really looking forward to next year with having a year of this volume under my belt. Other goal is improve my core which after doing work on it the last two days is definitely a limiter. jarvy01 - 2012-09-11 10:23 AM Back to potty training my last child. It's not going well thus far. Going in the wetsuit they know from birth but how old do you start them going on the bike? Bolded part is exactly how I feel. There is tons of improvement to be made at the 70.3 distance, particularly on the run. IM brand is smart by not allowing refunds, because I would have requested my $700 back by now. LOL For a female, you're not racing a HIM until you're well under 5 hours. Until then its just an individual time trial where you put out your best effort. OA female winner was 5:05 at Cedar Point (F 30-34 took it). F 30-34 took 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 9th OA. Major props to the ladies in my age group. I know some of the ladies put up much faster times at IM 70.3s, but in my book, the women who took OA at Cedar Point are fast, and I would consider myself to be racing if I could put up the times they did at this race. I agree with you though. When I say I'd like to race a 70.3, I'm not talking about qualifying for anything special or doing 70 miles in 4 hours. I'm talking about racing in terms of making my time the best it can be for me, and that's all that matters to me. That would take years to do, which is why I regret signing up for the full at this point in time. I'm trying to work my way out of it, but I think my husband would flip his lid at the loss of $. I hope I have some sort of attitude adjustment over the next couple months |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm with ya Carrie - I had lots of rest too. I should be faster than a speeding bullet... Jen - don't regret signing up for IM. You are going to be happy you did. You're just having "buyers remorse" right now, it'll pass. I promise. I think there's a big difference in racing and competing. (And a difference between competing and completing.) Racing to me is what Jen describes, going out and doing the best you can do. Does not mean a podium spot necessarily. But it could. But it's more of finishing feeling like you gave it your all, and based on your training you put in your best performance for that course on that day. (a bad day can start out racing, but end up completing - for me anyway) |

I completely agree with your definition of racing. I want to feel like I went full tilt for my abiliity and pull off a time where I think wow I couldn't be a second faster. So much to improve on. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The swim course at Cedar Point measured .2 miles long according to my Garmin. Makes my swim time seem more in line with my ability. I felt like I was pushing hard, sighted well, and had no problems really aside from some guy knocking into me a couple times. I'm going to start a strength training program next week, and I'm excited! I figured strength, core, yoga, and lots of running this fall will set me up nicely. I don't want to swim for at least a month (mostly because I'm getting a couple tattoos next weekend and want them to heal up properly). Have a great day! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() No guys, that was totally a joke ... I have no interested in doing that course anytime soon. While I am getting better and more comfortable on the bike, I am unfortunately not a climber and you need to be a climber for that course. It does stink, cuz it is a wetsuit swim (which I want) and is close to my house and has great spectator support ... argh |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Not sure how quick, just checked yesterday afternoon ... quicker than last year which was open for 1-2 days I think.
Trying to figure out why some course don't sell out quick, or why IMWI does sell out quick ... I mean it is farm fields pretty much. Thoughts on others still open? TX, Treblont (?) |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I am very excited about my training lately .... finally!!! Kelly is still brining me along slowly, but I am getting more excited about being on the bike (or dreading it less now) and my run is coming along nice. While I am not doing HR training right now, and I know I am probably above where I should be on some runs, my stride just feels good, comfortable, nice hop in my step and it seems that the bike is driving alot of this. I am anxious and excited to see what the next block brings ... Kelly ??? |

TX will be no wetsuit or wetsuit optional. This year they sent out the non-wetsuit folk 10 minutes before the wetsuit ones. Essentially a pro wave, non wetsuit wave, and wetsuit wave. Field was split pretty much half and half I'd say. Bike course is single loop with rollers. No major climbing. Run course is flat and very spectator friendly. A good part of which is along the waterway that a good deal of local restaurants and bars back up on to, so the crowd gets a little more intoxicated and rowdier each of the 3 loops. Downside, it's hot and the wind is in your face the second half of the bike course. |

What about Muncie 70.3? I may do the full aquabike option if it fits in the training plan. btw...I'm visiting my sister who lives in Chicago in early October. I'm taking Madge for a mom/daughter weekend. Do you live in the city? Or outer burbs? |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Had a really good swim today. Figuring out I'm a much faster backstroker than breast or butterflier. Odd because I always feel so awkward. Really trying to work on staying relaxed and keeping my HR in line in the water. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I live out in the burbs, but not too far if you want to meet up. Any interest in seeing the Chicago marathon if you are here that weekend. Always fun spectating that race. Muncie no longer offer the aquabike. After they were bought by WTC, they eliminated. Muncie is an option for me. I have done that half aquabike and loved it. No wetsuit cuz it was too warm, but the bike is a fast bike, very small rollers. |

Where does your sister live? She lives somewhere in Lincoln Park. I am severely allergic to dogs and my sister has one, so I'm trying to decide if I should take my own linens and take my chances at her apartment. If not we'll stay in a hotel. I had already planned a Saturday tea party at American Girl & a trip to Shedd's |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Funny story of the day. Bib #s and waves went up for my Oly on the 30th. My friend who is doing Oilman with me is in for this too and his wife is one of Cindy's best friends. Anyway Cindy emails me that "Jess says Jason goes out the wave in front of you at Towne Lake." My response was something to the effect that it makes things interesting. Cindy responds with "You better beat him out of the water. That would be embarrassing." Very nice. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I am really starting to get crabby due to being so sedentary. I just keep telling myself that my body needs this. I've put on a couple lbs. though, and that's makes me irritable. I may go out for a fun bike ride on Friday. Mankey has been calling my name from the garage. Next Monday I'd like to set up my strength training program. My husband is going to go to the gym with me and make sure I'm doing the exercises properly. I may take a yoga class this weekend in addition to the bike ride. Just enough activity to get the blood flowing and feel like I'm an active person. |

Really it gives me something to focus on besides the fact I really want out of the water and on to my bike. The fact all my buddies who swim slightly better than me are going the wave behind me is a good push too. LOL.
