I heard that race sold out in 14 minutes!!....at $1000 a pop? Wow

That's an exaggeration, it was only $950 with all the stupid fees Seriously, ouch, but I wanted to do one in New York and the lodging and travel to LP would cost much more overall. And my wife has a lot of stuff she wants to do in NYC, so she's happier with this.

Article I found yesterday said that some of the extra cost was because they had to lease 6 barges to go out on the river for the swim start.  Plus the road closures and other red tape up in that area.

I just pulled the list into a spreadsheet and there are 2795 bib numbers assigned. I know of at least one athlete who scratched the race and he is not included in the bib number assignments. (But his Dad is)

For the M45-49, there are 318 of of us with numbers. (So We Tentatively Get 7 Kona Slots)

Dang, you would think this race was run in Alaska.

There are only 741 Women in the race, compared to 2,054 Men.  I am not sure, but I thought the ratio was a lot closer to 50/50 in previous races...

Also, 511 of us are from California compared to only 220 from Idaho.  Here is the top 10 states represented:

UT	70
MN 73
AZ 81
VA 85
TX 98
OR 114
CO 140
ID 220

I could be a bit off on my geography, but I think the one guy from Melbourne, Australia is going to be the bloke who traveled the farthest to do the race.

Don't sweat it Paul, I am in the back of the bus with ya.

FWIW: One of my training partners is 53 and doing his 4th CdA this year with his Son.

I forgot to add - my LBS in Seattle (Speedy Reedy) is sending most of their employees to race CdA this year.  So keep an eye out for them as well.  They'll probably be wearing their own kit.

thanks for looking into it waterdog. ive got to remind myself that the bottom line for me is not KQ but having the best day i can have given the conditions and my training. alot of folks that do these really competitively base their worth on the big qualifying races. i just think different strokes for different folks. perhaps i might be more like that if i could swim worth a lick, but because i cant im really tickled to do them as well as I have.

kiki_zen - 2011-06-14 12:33 PM I'm renting one of those My Athlete Live GPS trackers now too.  I thought that's kinda cool, but not necessary.  When I mentioned it to my husband he was like 'Yes! Rent the damn thing."  I guess running around on race day guessing where your athlete maybe gets a bit frustrating. The funny thing is that this year our rental is in a good spot on the bike and run course so I bet they never leave after coming back from watching the swim start.  They will be the obnoxious people out around mile 5 or 6 just before bennet bay on CDA lake drive drinking very good beer and ringing cow bells.  If you look at the beer too long they will offer you some (it won't be defizzed ).

sounds like my kinda people! i may have to tell my husband to hunt them down and he can join them with his own cooler

If he is going to be hanging out alone otherwise, please do send him their way. It's a big party out there for the spectators.  Good motivation to get to the finish line fast

Their will be at least 1 less than the 2795 shown....they have me listed as 2464....yet I officially withdrew on 6/03/11.

(Remember me?  I'm the guy who crashed on a training ride and spent 4 days in the hospital.  Yeah...I'm that guy.  If you missed it you can go back and read my original sad post on page 139 at 5/31/11 at 2:02 AM)

Hey Slayer, what do you think you will need come in under to qualify?

Last year it was about 10:08 which is about 20 minutes fast than my goal time in a perfect race...what are you shooting for?

Made it home safe and sound. Wish I had a trainer with me as I could put it to good use at 2am...jet lag sucks! Was able to get a last long ride and run in the past two days and smashed both. The change in temp really helps the run!

Focus now is on taper finally and getting turned around as far as time, diet, routine, etc.

Melbourne Australia can't be as far as Abu Dhabi, UAE (2 of us from there).

Time to get everything in place!
