Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good Luck to anyone racing this weekend!!! I am planning on doing a 5K tomorrow... hoping to get under that 30 minute mark I have been stuck at that 30-31 minutes and can't seem to get into the 20's..... So we'll see!!! Johanne~ The race series we do has a girls race on Saturday- Triathlon for the Cure which is a shorter distance and then the sprint/ oly distance races are on Sunday so it works out great for us my husband gets to watch with the girls then I get to watch with them on Sunday. My husband and I are the opposite, he is training for the Rev3 ironman distance in Sept and I am happy with my short distances due to the longer swim and training time!!! ![]() Hope everyone has a great 4th of July weekend!!! Happy training shannen |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Shannen - I had this number in my head all day and now I know why it was 29:01. I kept thinking why does this number keep coming up. After I read you post I see the light now.. Its your finish time for tomorrow. Good luck.. Craig - Nice photos of your race. Heck my last race the photo of the run caught me walking and not running so not a good action photo. Johanne - I forgot to answer your question earlier. My back is a lot better, its still a little stiff when I wake up but no pain, after about 30 minutes of moving around it will loosen up and all is good then. Jeff - I'm raising my hand for the trailer you are planning to build. Man I got a great price for you to sell it for $15, but with the allowance my wife is giving me, I might have enough money saved up by the time you complete it. Anyone know where our leader is?? It's unusual for him to go this long without a post. Helllllooooo out there is Steveeeee Around??????? Cann you Hear Meeeee!!!!! |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() CRAIG - Nice photos, and I'm glad you risked the camera to take them. Would that be Kathy in the foreground.....and maybe Mt. Hood in the backrground? Thinking blisters here, try either BodyGlide or Vaseline on the part of your show or sock that is rubbing. BG is great, and ain't gonna hurt a thing. Are you using it around your neck when in your wetsuit? Remember, though, NEVER Vaseline on your wetsuit, as it's petroleum-based and eats neoprene for snacks. Somthing called Glucose, eh? Makes me wonder what that could be, short of straight glucose. People talk about creating their own energy drinks and gels, and maybe the race director has determined that mixing his own stuff using a few tubs of glucose powder works as well as HEED or Gatorade. As you say, having something with some taste is good enough. I like to think I am getting soemthing more perforamance-enhancing in terms of quantifiable energy-boosts, but there rally is never any true guarantee of that. ![]() ![]() Which September one are you eyeing? |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() JOHANNE - I didn't do that race on Sunday, due to a Yoga injury the day before. I was quite worriewd about it at the time, wondering if I'd maybe torn my MCL, but the short story for now is that I just bruised something - although the pop and instant pain on the inside of my right knee was pretty alarming! Don't worry too much, as I can almost guarantee that muscle memory will eventually evolve out of the Chi running. And by "eventually", I mean sooner rather than later. It is so radical for so mnay people that I think the muscles have no other strategy than to adapt asap -- more like muscle cramming? Happy birthday!!! You know, if you'd asked me to guess what you wanted for your birthday, I probably wouldn't've come right up with an aviary......but what a nifty idea. Along with th finches and canaries, I think a falcon would work quite well....don't you?) Isn't it three weeks until Vineman? Like, the 16th or 17th? No! Wait! That IS just over two weeks. Oops!! |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() ALEX - You're still psyched for the OWS -- hot diggity! That warms the cockles of my heart to sense your enthusiasm! I've had a couple of challenging ones the pst few days, with fairly choppy water on the return leg. It's nothing tokl daunting, but just makes me work that much harder. Today's return leg was four minutes slower than going out; I HATE when that happens! ![]() |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() GEORGE - I'm around, I'm around! Last week I got laid low by computer woes, and this week it's been dealing with a perceived serious injury (see above post to Johanne) that is probably nothing I needed to get too angsty about. WHEW! I bailed on my last Sunday's race, and decided to not sign up for one this Sunday. My swim training is great, but lesser injuries and threats of injuries has kept my bike and run volumes very low. I am waiting to see how the effects of my cortisone shot from 16 days ago work themselves out, and haven't wanted to compromise anything by running or cycling too much. There is some improvement....but just less than the 110% I was hoping for! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() JEFF - A Metric Century! What is the starting time for that....and how soon you will be back in My Little Tow before the thermometer hits the Fahrenheit Century?!? |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() SNANNEN - Mojo coming your way for you to break that pesky 30-minute barrier! Do you have any pacing strategy for it? Not that you necessarily need one, but I'm just curious. Edited by stevebradley 2011-07-01 4:05 PM |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() stevebradley - 2011-06-30 8:46 PM JEFF - A Metric Century! What is the starting time for that....and how soon you will be back in My Little Tow before the thermometer hits the Fahrenheit Century?!? 8am. It is 5 mile ride from the RV park to the start line so make it a 72ish mile day. I should do the ride in 3:30 to 3:45 hopefuly back to the park noonish and on the road. MY little rig is air conditioned. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() CRAIG again - Good race photos, too! The run one shows you having a decent forward lean -- this is a good thing, and something you can work with! People who do Chi running (Johanne is doing that), or Pose, or Evolution, or Newton, are aiming for some degree of forward lean; you're already a good ways there, it seems! As for the bike photo, I'm not seeing that you make it look small, but I wonder about how high your knee is coming. Does it also come comparably close to the handlebar? Let me know, okay? |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() gdsemiller - 2011-06-30 10:21 AM Well it looks like everyone is awake Yeahhhh.. I thought yall all left me.. I would come out and did not see any activity.. Johanne - When is your bday, is it on the 4th? Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, happy birthday dear HIM Johanneeeeee, happy birthday to youuuuuuuu. Alex - Good luck on the OWS this weekend Jeff- Good luck on your century ride this weekend. Hey do you want to make me one of those travel trailers, They are sweeet.. Well no plans here.. I do have a friend I met through Team In Training and he is training for WI Ironman on 9/11/11. He is doing a long ride Monday morning so I might join him. I hope everyone has a great day. Yes, my birthday is on the 4th. We moved here in May before my 4th birthday and when my birthday rolled around I thought all the fireworks were to welcome me to the U.S.! I was, and still am, such the youngest child! Jeff, have fun on your ride! It's kind of nice to travel all self contained. George, glad your back feels better. Have a good ride with your TNT buddy. Craig, great race photos! Isn't it great to be out doing this stuff? Shannon, I hope you kick butt in your 5K. Breaking 30 min is also a goal of mine. I've done it during training but not in a race so I'm not counting it Steve, quit that! You're not supposed to get injured doing yoga, remember??? So my run went ok. It's just taking me more mental focus staying in a good posture. I'm running faster for the shorter distances. Today, I had to run 90 min and I started with an under 10:00 pace but then I took some walking breaks to get my heartrate down. I should os just slowed down but I knew I was going long and took advantage of walking. Alex, happy swimming this weekend! |

I was born in Montreal. My parents spent a few years there after leaving Algeria. The French were not going to be welcome there for much longer so they immigrated to Canada. After a few years there, they decided it was too cold, packed up the car and started driving west and stopped in California. They didn't speak english at all. It's a neat story. They were quite adventurous! |

I know that my family has been in the country for generations, but my grandfather's grandfather came from England and settled in South Dakota during the homestead era.. it is amazing what people can do going into the unknown. Mt Bachelor would be at about 2 o'clock from that picture and Mt Hood is about 95 miles north of that. Blisters... I'm learning to be a forefoot striker. It'll be nice when this thing heals because I'm only forefoot on one foot. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Kinda like my mother and her family. My mother was born in Cuba and family was either engineers or doctors, they live a very good life over there, until Castro took over. My grandfather made connections with several orphans and over a 18 month period, my uncles and aunts were sent to different orphans throughout the US. It took my Grandparents about 2 years to get to the US and to get all the kids back together. The only one that spoke English was my Grandfather since he graduated from Georgia Tech (He came to the states for college). They lost everything, they were no able to leave with any money. One of my Grandfathers, brothers tried to take his money and he was caught and put in prison and released about 20 years later. I have always like hearing the stories about their home country and their travel to the US. |

Member![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi All, Happy birthday Johanne. I think an aviary is a cool idea..Is it like the ones at the zoo? I have about 7 bird feeders in my backyard and we get lots of birds but , of course, they are free to come and go as they please. I am riding to Gettysburg tomorrow and back (I hope). It is about 67 miles. I can't say I am looking forward to it but the miles will be good for me. I have met several groups of riders here and they are pretty gung ho. The do have a Monday night ride which they call "sane". That means 15 miles per hour on the hills (ascending). I try to keep up but...well that does not always work. I am going to keep it up because I don't want to be remembered as the slow chick who disappeared after 2 rides (the first one of which I almost died). So I guess I will try to run on Sunday and then there is Monday which is a holiday so guess I should find some other way to get out the door and try to hurt myself. The last time I rode with the fast gorup I hit grtavel and went into a ditch. I tried to catch up but there was straw attached to the clips of my left shoe...BUSTED!!! I probably mentioned that since that was the day I lost my computer. I will have a very checkered riding history if I keep showing up. So good luck this weekend Jeff and Shannen. Steve, Should I assume that since nothing hurts I am not working hard enough. After Eagleman you told me it was ok but now I am not so sure. I hope you are better soon. George, Your family history is pretty amazing. Mine is pretty boring stuff comparatively. Twenty years in prison? Wow. Everyone have fun this weekend and happy Fourth of July. Ellen
