Anyone know of any sales on tri shorts going on?  I'm to the point that my training ones are too big.  Need some smalls.

well I'm down for the count. Messed up my back on Monday (playing golf of all things). Saw my doctor on Tuesday and she prescribed some muscle relaxants, anti-inflammatories, and physical therapy. I have my first PT appointment today, so we'll see what they say. I'm betting no running for sure, probably no cycling for a bit, but MAYBE a little swimming in a week or so?

I couldn't even put my own socks and shoes on yesterday (and may not be able to today either).

What did you do to your back?  I hope the PT has good news for you, and this isn't a serious problem!

I have an industrial fan pointed on my face/upper body when I do trainer rides.  I did most of my training and racing in 90+ degree temps this summer, and then my A race ended up being chilly, so it's all a crapshoot around here, so I'm going to use the fan because it's comfortable.  Looks like it's the same for IMMT in August.....could be chilly with rain....could be comfortable.

Me too.

Well, I was playing golf in a tourney on Monday. Bent over to pick up a club on about the 9th hole and felt a twinge in my lower left back. Didn't think much of it, it happens. I stretched it out some and went to the next hole. Go to tee off and as I swung it felt like I got shot in the back. Took me to my knees and nearly in tears. I've never felt anything like it before.

People put fans by their trainer???  I would have never thought of that.

Really?  Or are you being sacrastic?  I have 2 fans going when I'm on the trainer (because I don't have an industrial size one like Jen), I'd die otherwise.  The only time I didn't use a fan was when Kelly told me I couldn't for a sweat test.  Mean Kelly!

Scott - look at Swimoutlet.com also.  I have not looked recently, but they usually have decent pricing and do have tri apparel.

Onetri.com had a good sale last week ... picked up a couple $115 zoot shorts for about $70.  Also check swimoutlet.  If you can wait a little bit, all the end of the season sales will be going on soon.

I use a fan because my pain case has bad air circulation ... but when I trained for Disney, didn't use any just it case it would be hot.

Was being totally serious.  Kinda embarrassed really.  You should see the lake I left yesterday on the mat underneath my trainer.

I didn't use a fan at all this winter on the trainer. Patriot had been 90 degrees and humid two years in a row so I wanted to be used to a hot bike. I got 70 and mild humidity but better to error on the safe side.

For those of you that remember me talking about Lukas Verzbicas and the bike crash he had end of July, here is his progress report and photos. Broken neck in 2 places, collarbone, wasn't sure he would ever walk again, already running sub-6 minute miles! Just amazing!

I wish I could do mile repeats right now  Kelly said no more strength training for the week.  I feel like my muscles are atrophying. Back to running next week, and I'm looking forward to it!

How do you all adjust your caloric intake during rest/recovery periods?  Cut out snacking?  Overall calories?  Just curious.

Just remember that your body is repairing itself from months of pounding so an extra pound going on the frame isn't that big of a deal.  It will come back off pretty easily.  That said I just make sure that my meals are lean proteins and green veggies and my snacks fruits (particularly berries for the antioxidants), veggies, egg whites, greek yogurt, etc.  Lower cal, but nutrient dense foods.

Kelly said the same (a little extra weight or fat in the offseason isn't a bad thing).  I think it's a slippery slope.  I mean, I gained weight during HIM training.  With the amount of activity I was doing and the profile of my diet, I think the fact that I gained is absolutely ridiculous.  My diet looked like the Paleo for Athletes diet (pretty much 98%).

Next season I'm making changes to the diet, particularly more carbs at midday meal.  I want to tinker and see if I have more energy.  Lunch was a huge salad (usually 5-6 cups of spinach) with veggies, lean protein and/or beans, seeds, and hummus.  I'm going to add a pita or homemade bread to my veggies.  I would keep dinner lean protein and veggies, because I'm obviously more sedentary in the evenings.

Anyway, I need to find a happy place this fall.  Winter is a good time to lose, because it's not going to happen during IM training.

Did the biggest leg workout yesterday I've done in a long time. So today was 35 minutes of yoga, 30 minutes on the elliptical to get some blood to the muscles at 102 average HR and 500 yards in the pool at an super slow pace that was just meant more as a stretch than anything else. It was my first trip in the water since the race. Used the pull buoy to really accentuate the stretches especially through the hips.

I've also averaged 7.5 hours sleep a night since Pumpkinman. I was averaging less than 6.5 the months leading up to it.

Hey gang,

Haven't posted in a while.  Congrats to everyone for a great season. Unfortunately, I am still having a few issues.  It'll be a year next week since that darn meth addict hit me.  Never did I expect it to last this long.  Hoping for a great winter of training and back at it next year.

On a good note, I directed my first event, a 3.5 mile road race (with 1/4 mile actually trail). For a first year event, it went very well. Surprisingly, no hiccups!! We had 270 runners register, and also had 44 kids age 3-8 run the 1/2 mile kids race. I'll say this, it took way more time than I could have ever expected.  Thank you kelly for your initial help back in March. Will def be doing again next year.  Hope everyone is well.

I can't even imagine directing a Tri.  This run was around a private lake setting, and now people are begging for me to put a Tri here.  I am not sure I have the time for that.  It would be a perfect setting.  Water is crystal clear, no weeds, no motor boats etc.  Something to consider.

Jen, just look at my logs .... you worry way too much!  I want to work out more, but heck with 14 hour workdays, it is hard to get in what I am given right now.  Plus, I know we need to move slow to determine in a month if it makes sense for me to do an IM next year.

On the positive side I was freaking out last night think there was no way work-wise I could do IMFL (I am a business unit controller and that would be right at month-end close, forecasts, reporting, etc).  I talked to the CFO today and he said we would make it work ... so that made me so happy I still have the option!!!  Now, I just have to worry about making sure I can get in through online registration!

Kelly/others .. you will have to let me know before what is the minimum amount of info I need to put in so I don't get bogged down on registration and it fills and I don't get in.

Carrie - awesome you may be signing up for an IM.  Very exciting stuff!

I'm pretty sure the online form has red astericks for mandatory info.  Don't bother wasting time with the extra, it takes way too long.

I hear you on the month end issue, I'm in the same boat.  At my work you do not under any circumsances miss the first 4 workdays of the month.  You can be sick in the hospital but you better still drag yourself in to work!  For Vineman, I was gone during that time, but I requested it so early it was ok.  Sounds like your boss is understanding too.
