Lena - I did the TI clinic, bought the videos and books too.  Here is my thought.  If you want to work on the TI method, the clinic is very expensive, I would go to the TI site, find a TI coach in your area, and take some private lessons with him/her.  In a short time you can get the basics, then work on your own, then go back in a week or so for another lesson.  You could probably do something like 10 hours of private lessons just for the tuition of the clinic, not to mention travel and lodging.

That was ME...  There are no TI coaches in my area  Lodging will be free at the clinic, as my son lives there... and as for travel, I could drive - still a bit of money, but not so bad.   Thanks for all the advice

Diane - sorry - sometimes I get confused on who posts what....sorry there is no coach locally.....that said, I might do the clinic.  When I did it there were three instructors for about 20 students.  You will need to "go get" the instruction.  If you hang back, they sometimes will miss you - the loudmouth gets the most attention - I guess you all can figure out I got one on one attention....no really, not obnoxious but you must ask questions and let them know you are serious.  I would also work on floating on your back before you go.  Big help in the balance area.....I couldn't do it ever....after about three weeks of trying 4-5 times a week it finally clicked....I can float very well now thank you very much.....also as another alternative, if you are going to be travelling this summer, you could check those cities for instruction....

Hey all!

Diane - IMHO I would wait on the TI.  As for the coaches I think Nancy got it right.  Find the coach you work with the best.

Road today with a buddy.  He hasn't ridden in awhile but he is in his early 20's and runs fast.  A bit warm/humid but good ride.  We rode hard but I felt great.  Sprinted up the only hill, past riders, etc.  Made about 29 miles and my buddy was done, we refueled at my house but just ended up doing a few miles cool down afterwards.  I felt great.  Eight weeks of the bike program has paid off.  IM relay training starts next week.  Been slowly ramping up the swimming.

A bit of good news, one of the local tri coaches just announced a new duathlon in October.  15 minutes from my house!  Nice.

Quick note as I am exhausted. Did my aquabike HIM today. I got about 3 hours of sleep because I worked the nite before and we were delivering babies like they were pizzas! The swim was WAY long. Took me 45 min ( last year took me 27). I avg 17.6 on a 58 mile bike. SO pretty decent as this was a build week for me with no taper and no sleep.Fun day with my good friends.
I will write a race report after rest and recovery

Mav, don't really want a baby of my own but would love a granddaughter.  Since you deliver like pizza, please bring me a granddaughter, the tip would be nice, I promise.

As you can see from my logs, I run much better when I don't stop and talk and don't have to slow down for other people wanting to run with me.   Last couple of runs were good, (for me).

Tomorrow, 5 hour bike ride, will surely post after that one!!  My son bought his first rode bike today, says he is going to start training and tri'ing with me, we will see.  Scott S50 Speedster, I think.

Finished my 5 hour ride.  Very different.  I had a couple of guys riding with me today,  one is scheduled to do the Louisville Ironman with me, the other is in my Sunday school class and rides a lot on his road bike.  So here is how it went down.  Because of my  mentoring group, those guys couldn't even air up my tires.  My plan was to ride 82 miles in 5 hours, not real fast but not to bad.  Took 6 hours and 14 minutes I think including riding and stopping (for them).  When I subtracted the time we were stopped from the total ride time, I rode it in 4:52 approx.  Now that still isn't very fast, until you look at my log and see that my heart rate was low for a very large part of the ride.. I had to ride slow enough that they could keep up, and not only keep up, but so they could draft behind me the last 40 miles.  I believe I could have ridden the ride in 4 hours flat alone!  That is 20 mph average!

Bill - what a great ride. I feel like such a laggard by comparison. I only averaged 23 KPH for my 40k ride on Saturday.

Bryan - for the life of me I can't figure out how you (and the others) manage IM training. I am already feeling challenged by the Oly training plan and my workouts aren't even a warm-up for y'all.

Morning all!
Hope all the fathers had great Fathers days, I know I did.  Official IM relay training starts later this week.  Swimming isn't quite ramped up to where it should be but I have time.  One of the A/C units went out over the weekend so waiting on a call from the A/C guys for them to come fix it.  Otherwise its swim/bike today, run tomorrow.

Freddy - Know the feeling, I am just doing the Bike/Swim portion of an IM and its going to be tough finding the time.

Billy - wow, a powerhouse on the bike, congrats!

LRR - wondering the same thing myself and good luck on the IMFL training.

Mav - LOL, did you have the 30 minutes or its free offer going on?  Congrats on the Aquabike!

Hey Everyone!!  Looks like everyone is doing GREAT!!!
FBP I read your report...wow is what I have to say!
Diane great job on the century.  I read yours too!!  I know it has to feel good to finish strong!
Mav...GREAT JOB on your aquabike HIM!!

I know it's crazy but I have not been on the computer much now that school has been out.  Just seems like I'm either training or gone.  I spent a week in a beach house in South Carolina with my whole family including  parents, brothers, sister, nieces and nephews...all the families.  My brother and I trained together as he is doing IMKY too.  It will be his 4th IM.  So it was like a mini training camp...fun!!  And since we have been back home we have continued to train together.  It's been awesome for me.  Yesterday we did a brick...wow....3 hour bike then a run.  It was soooo hot.  We jumped in the pool as soon as we got back to my house.  Anyway I have had 2 hot runs recently...so hot that my clothes were dripping wet....ewww....lol.

Can't believe my HIM is almost here.....AHHHH!

Oh and Lena...so glad they got your thief...too bad it's your neighbor..wow...we have had recent break ins in this neighborhood...our house hasn't been hit...probably cus so many teenagers are in and out of here all times of the day and night.
?

Amy, are you going to do one of the organized ride/swims in Louisville?   I am thinking about July 24 or 31.

Gary, I looked up the Tammany Trace and it looks like a good idea.  We can meet at the trailhead in Slidell (about halfway for both of us) in the morning and ride the 60 miles or so.  Let me know.

Question - does the fact that its raining cause you to change plans insofar as road biking is concerned? I commute in all kinds of weather on my mountain bike but I am really nervous riding my roadie in the rain - decreased visibility affecting the drivers and wet pavement impacting the bike's stability. I don't worry about getting soaked but I hate worrying about getting killed!

Pete
I crashed in a downpour about 7 weeks ago. I will NOT ride in the rain again. Just not worth it. The white paint is like ice. I hit railroad tracks. If you dont hit them exactly perpendicular it increases the surface area of your tire and the bike goes right out from under you. I hit my head ( helmet cracked in 2 places)and injured my shoulder. Visibility was very poor. I love to ride but I can wait for a day when it is not raining...trainer rides for me form now on.

I understand not riding in the rain, but, if it rains at IM I have to ride so I just do the best I can and keep going.

Thanks Mav - my "spidey sense" told me I was being wise but nice to have it confirmed by others. Billy - absolutely agree that race days are different.

Hey all!

Pete - unless its a race I don't like to ride in the rain.

Billy - Can't make Saturday. To tell the truth weekends are really hard to make trips.  Do you have any weekdays off in July?  With my July 11th tri might be good to do it after.  If so I could even cruise up your way.  Just let me know.

Rough, Rough day at work.  Tried to swim at lunch and about 1000m into it I bailed.  Mind was just not into swimming.  But I did get 5x100m avg about 2:00/100m (with 1 min breaks between).  Just felt like hitting it hard (as opposed to hitting someone).  Hoping my trainer ride tonight goes better.

Mav - Looking forward to your RR!

Sorry I didn't catch everyone but I have to head out.  Take care all!
