Today will be slightly less busy for me.  Thank goodness!

Who is racing this weekend?  I know one of you is doing a 10K.  Anyone else?

I signed up for my first tri of the season.  It is a sprint with a pool swim on April 2nd.  Registration closed 2 hours after it opened!  It's going to be a big one!  I did it last year and froze my butt off!  Yes, it's the Beaver Freezer!  I have to do it just because of the name!

Who has begun a training plan?  How is it going?  Any questions regarding the plan or how to modify it to meet your personal needs?

started one this week. a D3 I think, the intermediate oly, but my plan description still says sprint balanced lifestyle (meh) and I don't know why it hasn't switched over yet.

as a first week goes, it sucks. but it's only the first week, right?  if this continues I'm threatening to give up on planned races until the baby goes to one nap a day and training is easier to finagle.  I'm fairly comfortable with the volumes and whatnot, and so far I've used the "some is better than none" philosophy in the plans---if I have to cut short to fit it all in, then I will, at least I've gotten some in though.

It sounds like you have a very healthy approach to your plan.   Just keep plugging away.

How is everyone's weekend? Any good long workouts or races?

Did a 10k race this morning and it was beautiful. They had to change the course because of ice on the roads, but it was a sunny, warm (high 30s) morning.

So I do have some questions coming out of that race.
1) how do I learn to pace myself in a race?
2) why does my head still hurt?!

This isn't a race I had been training specifically for. A team mate was injured, so I used her registration. But I think I took the race too easy. I sort of sprinted the last mile, but probably could have put more in during the first five. I feel like I could be a faster runner if I just pushed myself. I'm just always so nervous about running out of steam too early. But, if you look at my logs, I'm not getting lots of miles in each week, so I've read I shouldn't bother with speed work yet. Any ideas?

And for my head hurting, I tried the Honey Stingers (yum!) before and after the race. Had breakfast before the race, ate lunch after, yet around 3pm (the race was over at 11:30) my head started to ache. I'm too awake for a nap. A cup of chamomile helped. What could be going on?! Is it a brain tumor?! (Just kidding! Bad movie reference.)

In my experience so far:

I get serious headaches when I overheat, and I can overheat simply not having enough fluids before/during a race or a workout indoors or out.  My pacing came about with lots of training time, simply evolved with my volumes, speed work is part of some training plans---I feel stronger running after a good strides workout.

A ski vacation sounds fantastic. Sadly I won't be going anywhere soon. I'm actually sitting in a dr.'s office waiting to have my throat checked out, I'm pretty sure it's strep. That's three illnesses three weekends in a row! So training isn't exactly going to plan. Anyway, hope everyone else is well! I'm sure we'll all be on the training wagon once spring gets here!

I'm here! Got some antibiotics for the strep and I'm finally feeling like myself again. Easing back into training this week. A couple good runs and a swim under my belt. Hoping for an uneventful long run this Saturday. How are you? How's your training? And what did happen to everyone?

Guess it's just me in here! And I'm sick! Again! Congestion and general exhaustion. I did get in 8 miles this morning, but was regretting an out and back route around mile 6. If anyone else is out there, I hope your training is going better than mine.

ha, it's not going much... though when i do get to work out it's great, but seems that I cant' seem to hit it more than a couple days in a row, running is easiest 'cause I can pack everyone up and go out the door without having to consider kidsclub hours, napping schedule, etc.

glad to hear you are were feeling better---and you will be again soon!Wink

Hey AdaBug,How's your schedule going? Glad you're able to get some runs in. How old are your kids again? Do you use a running stroller?I am feeling really good today! Went on an 8 Miler this morning with a new running partner and go home feeling down right refreshed! I think two things really helped 1) not being sick (hooray) and 2) nutrition. I had nutella on bread with a banana on the way out the door and chocolate soy milk when I got back. I seriously feel like a million bucks. Hope I can repeat this next weekend!

Sounds like you had a great run! I have been really lax on input for my workouts... Good swim this morning with masters and nursing shin splints but a long run sounds fantastic!

NICE!  Isn't it THE BEST to figure out the right timing for nutrition, etc.?
I gave up on my training plan, I was getting too too stressed trying to get anything in seeing my lack of training compared to the planned, and feeling failure-ish.  Hope beyond hope the little one has smoothed out her sleep schedule and I'll soon be able to predict her waking hours. Teething doesn't help, neither do illnesses.  This too shall pass, no?
Miss Monkey will be 5 and the babygirl will be 1, all in May.
I do use a running stroller, it's a Burley, and happily Baby E is comfy in it, and the bigger one can ride her bike---though we've yet to go any longer than ~30 minutes.  So very grateful for naptime yoga sessions!

No not really, just looking at our lack of action here on this thread and wondering "what happened?"

Didya see the joke thread?  my favorite is the 100lb canary joke.
