Hi Guys, how are you all doing? Is everyone feeling healthy again? I really hope so now that the weather is really starting to turn nice!

Who's coming to the great Southwest for Firecracker? Let me know so that I can buy enough food and beer :0)

Training is going well for me. I am really starting to get nervous about the half Ironman I'm doing in August. Firecracker should be a nice start to the season and I am looking forward to it and especially meeting you guys.

My running is finally fun!! I have been having my legs worked on for several months and it seems that this weekend it finally paid off. I ran 10 miles!!!!! My longest run ever. And with NO pain in my shins. I cannot even begin to tell you how huge this is. I also did a speed interval track workout yesterday. It's a pyramid interval which still kicks by butt. I'm finally able to get through most of it with only a little walking...another big milestone in my book.

Here's the interval pyramid if anyone is interested:
10 min warm up

1 min race pace
4 min jog

2 min race pace
3 min jog

3 min race pace
2 min jog

4 min racepace
1 min jog

3 min race pace
2 min jog

2 min race pace
3 min jog

1 min race pace
4 min jog

10 min cool down

I hope everyone is having a great week!
Kim

Nice job adamo!!!! My first sprint is this weekend in Ann Arbor, Pinckney to be exact. Anxious, nervous but excited. Depending on how well I do, I'm planning the trip to Benton Harbor. Ran my first 10k race of the season last weekend, 47.05 (great for me)! Anyway, any last minute advice before this weekend, i'd appreciate it.
Thanks, Steve

Good luck this weekend Steve. My advice is take off slow in the water. Your bound to be anxious and start to get short of breath. Happens to most people til they get use to swimming in the open water. My other advice is have fun. Great place to people watch and get ideas in the transition. Good Luck

I'm there for the Firecracker but can't stick around long afterward for a cookout.

Hey Steve,
I second what PGiler said. Take it easy in the swim portion and just have fun. Try to smile a lot, especially on the run....everybody loves to see someone having a good time and you'll get lots of smiles back from spectators as well as the other athletes.
Have fun!

Sorry I haven't posted in a while, here's an update on my last two races.

I hurt my right hamstring during the 5K in Floridia, thought it would be ok but it hurt every step of the Soldier Field 10 Milen run a week later. Did finish it in 1:59:28 though so now the longest I've ever run is 10 miles. I'm looking forward to the Firecracker Tri although I don't think I'm going to do so good, now i just want to finish it with the injury to my leg.

Hi George,
Nice job on the 10 miler, that's a nice feeling isn't it?!! Sorry to hear about your injury. I hope you are taking it easy and getting some healing time in.
Firecracker will be a fun race and it doesn't matter how you finish, just that you "tri"ed

Hi Guys,

I'm so glad to hear that you are still going to make Firecracker. Has anyone done any triathlons yet this year? Firecracker will be my first for the year. The lake is warming up nicely and it looks like the weather is going to be beautiful.
Let me know where you all want to meet up at. Is anyone coming into town on Saturday?

Hope everyone is having a good summer!

The water temp was about 72 a few days ago. It's been a little cooler here the last couple of days, in the low to mid 70's. Sunday is supposed to be really nice with highs in the 80's. The race starts early enough that we will miss the really hot temps. It should be a good one. Last year it poured rain.
Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Well, bring your wetsuits. It looks like the lake turned and it might be a bit nippy. I actually heard that the water was at 41 degrees today. There have been a lot of clouds the last couple of days so it's hard to get a good reading. Hopefully tomorrow we will have a better idea. I'm really hoping that the temp is higher than 40!!! I really do not want to get hypothermia in July.

The expo runs from 2-6 so I will probably go and hang out there for a little while, get checked in and test the water.

Give me a call on my cell when you all get in and we can try too all get together.

If we can't hook up. Is there a good Italian Restaurant in the area?

Hey Guys,

Well the water temp is at 61 degrees today. So that shouldn't be too bad for the swim.

There is a little Italian restaurant in Stevensville called Santinellos that is decent. There is also another one is Stevensville, Tosi's, but it is pretty upscale with plenty of cream and butter in all of their meals. You'll probably want to stick with Santinellos for a pre-race dinner. They are located on Glenlord Road.

Looking forward to meeting everyone!
Drive carefully.

Hamstring trouble must be going around.  Mine is in major trouble.  Trying very hard to nurese it back to health but also keep training for IM.

Steve, how did the sprint go?  Do you have a race report?  Have a fun July 4th all

Tyler,

What are you donig for your hamstring?

Mine was killing me through-out the race. Other than streaching I haven't done anything since the 10 miler and it showed during this race. i think i finished just ahead of the DNFers. If I can't get this figured out I won't be doing the Chicago Tri in August.

All I have to say is COLD. That was the coldest water I have swam in. Still defrosting.

My feet were numb until I started the run! That was by far the coldest water I have ever been in. I couldn't even freestyle. When I did try to swim I had to roll over on my back, that seemed to work for a little while. My feet and hands went numb. I still cannot believe that people were swimming without a wetsuit!

Overall I did really well, I finished at 1:30 which was 20 minutes faster than my time last year. I also took second place in my division and got a nice little trophy too.

Sorry we all didn't get a chance to hook up, maybe next time.

Take care all....I am off for a much needed week long vacation.

Kim

Kim,

Congrats on the 2nd place. All the people I saw swimming without a wetsuit were heading back in after quitting. Your 1:30 time, was that adjusted for your start wave? Or actual time from the initial gun. I figure you passed me some time around T2, my final time was 1:52.

Here you go. There must have been a problem with my chip, I'm not listed at all. But then again I would have been dead last so I'm not bothered by this.
