Artemis - 2008-10-20 10:06 AM My arms are sore in weird places from going shooting yesterday. Obviously I never use those muscles.

I still think its cool you are learning to shoot... Ive never wanted to own a gun... but if someone wants to teach me how to fire one in a safe controlled environment id totally be there!

I got to fire a... Ak-47? is that a gun? Or something like that when I was in vietnam... they changed by the round/bullet or something to have a go...

I thought it was a blast... even though the push back (no idea what its calleD) was a bit much...

Yep, an AK-47 is indeed a gun. "Push back" is usually called recoil.

We've gone a couple of other times (one or two). Usually we just shoot pistols, which are pretty easy. I'm a pretty good shot - actually more accurate than my husband a lot of times. The shotgun was harder. Much more recoil than I was expecting. And that was a smaller shotgun than people often use.

So is it a practice thing... in terms of getting used to it???

Im not a big fan of guns... then again we dont have the 'right to bear arms' thing here either...

But as a sport... i get that... sounds like fun!

I think so.  Part of it is making sure you hold it right when you shoot.

We really only go to ranges and shoot at targets.  Also don't currently own any, although my husband would like to get a pistol so it is cheaper when we want to go to the range.

I don't really like them except as a sport.  I'm not comfortable with leaving them loaded in the house.  I told my husband I'm not okay with that.

I think I can understand getting one for sport and having it (unloaded) in the house... especially if it makes it cheaper.

Given my Mum grew up on the farm etc her brother get into duck shooting (and she hates it as she LOVES birds) and clay targets etc... there is definatley a skill to hitting a moving target... or a stationary one at that!

It is pretty warm. It's made out of merino wool. Too bad I have to knit the other one now!

Well it means you are more than half way there... thats got to be a positive!

True, although I'll probably work on a few other things before I start the other one.

If I remember... you did have a very LONG list of upcoming projects...

Yeah...so here's my list right now:

1. Finish hat.  Add ear flaps.

2. Add ear flaps to other hat.

3. Wrap

4. Washcloths

5. Other sock

The first four need to be done before Christmas.  I'd actually like the wrap before I go to Mexico at the end of November.  The sock is a low priority since it is for me and I don't need it for anything.

Except for the fact winter is coming and the sock will keep your feet warm..

Yeah you are going to be busy! I dont know how you find the time!

I havent used it for a few years... Im not sure I even remember how to thread it!

I do remember that it was only good for working in batches... being quite old it seemed to just 'give up' if you tried to use it for too long..

I could get a new one but there is a LONG list of OTHER things i need to get first!

Hi Guys...

Yes, it's time for me and another drive-by.  Remember when I actually had time to chat???  Yeah, me neither.  The summer seems like forever ago .

So let's see...

1.  Kristen... the monkeys are SO cute!!!!  The Elder looks a lot like you, I think.
2.  I did a 46 mile ride today and can barely walk. WTF???????????  This is not a long ride for me.  Granted, I did do some ST yesterday but gimme a break.  I can't decide if it's nutritional, fatigue, or just my body trying to eat itself.
3.  Beth... feell better, sistah!  Glad you had such a good time in San Fran.
4.  Cat... 1 word:  HOTLANTA!!!!  Make sure it makes your list of places to visit.  Also, when I reward myself it's with things like mani/pedi, facial, massage, cookbooks (I love to cook and it's the next best thing to a food reward in my estimation) or workout clothes.
5.  Ohhhh... those socks look so cozy!
6.
7.  Mmmm... sour gummy worms.  I am not sure where or how that fit into anything... I just saw some pictures floating around!

Edited cause the ride was shorter than I thought... but I promise it felt twice as long.

Hey Nibbs,

Busy weekend.  Helped a scout in my son's troop with his Eagle Project on Saturday morning, the caulked around the windows in preparation for our temperate Minnesota winters.

In the afternoon my daughter was at a Mall of America party and my son was at an all night birthday party.

My wife and I had the whole afternoon and night to ourselves, went mountain biking together ('real' mountain biking) and went out to dinner with friends.  And I know you'll ask, so I'll let you know the answer is yes.

Ooohhhh... look at you all cheescakey and stuff.  Sounds like a lovely weekend.

Mine was busy, too... Friday night date... went to an amazing concert.  Saturday morning class and ST, followed by breakfast with a friend, running kids around to various activities, dinner with different friend, 45 mile ride this morning, put together baskets for a charity auction for the dance company, soccer game and a partridge in a pear tree.

So let me get this straight.  You have to, like, do stuff to get ready for winter?  Yeah, me too.  it was kinda cold (58 degrees) when I started riding this morning, and it only warmed up to about 65 or so, so I wore tights and a long sleeved jersey.  I'm also closing my windows tonight so no one gets too cold when the temp drops to 49.

*Ducking and running*
