I completed Week 1 Day 3 last night but I don't feel that I was getting stronger which has been my problem all along.  I'd do push ups in class and feel weaker and weaker each week.  Anyway I may repeat Week 1 then continue on.  No problem on the sit ups.  :-)

Day and a half until we leave for sunny Florida.  YEAH!!!  Can't wait for a little warm sunshine.

I just did w1 d3 in class-we had a ten minute break...I cut the rest periods a little short so that I could get all the sets in.

im back!
been gone a few days had some stuff at work that was tkaing alot of time, and had family coming into the state who i had to pickup so missed one workout for the first time in 2 months, i think ill live.
today gonna do an hour easy spin on bike, getting sick of recovery week!!!!! :P
want to get back to my schedule, but on the plus side its been nice having a little more time to sleep in the morning and going to bed a little later wiht the national championship and NFL playoffs on.
entering month 3 week 1 of my 16 week oly plan. looking forward to the ramp-up in minutes.
Also, i will post photo's tomorrow afternoon.....my wife and i are getting our dog tomorrow afternoon so i have been busy prepping our house for his arrival.
he is a 10 month old australian terrier who was suppsoed to be a show dog but is 1 inch too big (he's only 13"!!!!!) and 16 pounds.
We cannot wait, it;ll be fun to see how the dominant cat Jade interacts with him.
anyways keep pluggin away everyone on the pushuups, it took me about a year to do 100, but you feel great once you do it, and that strength is functional and helpful!

Can I vent on a non-tri subject?

Today my husband was laid off.  The company hadn't been doing well, so it really isn't a big shock.  My husband hasn't been happy there anyway, so we were planning to make a change this year.  We have a house in New York, in the mountains, and we were thinking it was time to get out of New Jersey permanently.  We were thinking we would start looking for a new job for him in the spring, and go when the kids were done with school.  The lay-off just messed with the timing of my plans.  I've been so busy at work today (7 pm and I'm still here, probably for a few more hours) that I haven't really had time to think about it.  I have to regroup over the weekend and figure out a new plan of attack.

On the bright side, the first tri I have planned is near the NY house, because I had planned to combine it with a long weekend up there.  At least I won't have to redo my training schedule.

Thanks, I just needed to say it somewhere.

That's terrible - I'm really sorry to hear that.

I guess it's at least something of a consolation that it somewhat coincides with your plans, even if it does screw up the timing.

Good luck getting things figured out.

Thanks.  For the next few days we'll just be doing what needs to be done immediately (unemployment, medical insurance, etc.), then we'll give the "what's next?" thing some thought after hubby has some time to get past the emotional/ego part.  Tough for the resident computer god to find out he's no longer needed.  Wink

I went for a run yesterday morning and it had just started snowing here.  I love snow, and we haven't had much this winter, so I enjoyed being out in it.  If we could schedule some snow flurries on all my run days, I might get to like running!  We only ended up with a dusting instead of the 3 inches we were promised, but at least it didn't rain.

I hope everyone is having an awesome weekend!

wow, im really sorry to hear that.
Its good you are looking at it positively though and planning to change around it,
Im worried on a daily basis about losing my job, as my wife is still in school, and i own at 27 years old etc. etc.. really sucks the NINA's ruined this housing situation for everyone that actually waited till they were financially ready to purchase a house--but im getting side tracked...
So i basically had the most lacksidaisy week last week post my race last sunday. maybe did a total of an hour and a half of training, but my body feels 100% and we are ramping up to month 3 week 1 this week starting this morning. my swim went great-and my body really felt good after giving it that rest. i felt strong my whole swim, had about 9 cookies last night which helped power me through my swim :P
sidenote: for people looking to still eat foods they enjoy but want to lose weight, i have discovered a mix you can keep at or around the cals listed on the serving size for one thing.
Betty Crocker chocolate chip cookie MIX.
it SAYS you need a stick of butter, but you don't.
We made them using 1/2 cup water instead of 1 stick butter, added the 1 regular egg as directed and mixed it. came out perfect. 2 cookies is 110 calories and 3 grams of fat, with 20 carbs and 13 sugars. so i had 5 sets LOL
just an FYI......
anyways just letting eveyone know im back now and gonna be more active.
My wife and I also found out right now anways, that we liked the IDEA of having a dog mor than actually having one. so for now-no dog.

Sorry to hear, Debbie.  At the very least you did have future plans for something, so hopefully y'all will be able to handle the transition a bit better.

And we can vent on anything.  Part of training and doing triathlon is fitting it in to everyday life, and life can throw a much more wicked curveball than this sport can.  These mentor groups (at least how I envision ours) aren't just for tri related training stuff.  Heart rates, bi lateral breathing, cadences, etc. are really just a small part of figuring this stuff out.  We all have to deal with everyday life.  Our motivations, successes, disappointments, etc.  How we handle those is what really translates over to how we deal with training and how we get to the starting line.  So if anyone ever needs to vent, celebrate, or just throw something out there... we don't judge.  We're all here for support, motivation, and a swift kick in the pants if needed

Thank you all for the support.  Surprisingly, this may actually help my running.  I went out this morning and did 20 minutes, even though it was only 20 degrees.  I didn't bring my iPod and found that the quiet was nice.  It gave me time to think, which I needed, and the time went fast.

I have to adjust my morning schedule now that my husband isn't leaving early for work, but I don't have to get up at 5 am anymore, so I'm not complaining.  The poor guy is all depressed about not working, but I just keep thinking of projects that need to get done around the house and how nice it is to have him home for awhile to work on them.  Pretty soon he'll be too busy to miss work.

BeginnerMan, those cookies sound great.

I lost just over a pound since last week, so I'm on track so far for my goal of a pound a week...

Of course there's a lot of variance in scale reading etc from day to day so who knows if I really lost a pound, but I'm choosing to ignore that Laughing.  I'm just going to weigh myself once a week and see what happens.  I feel like I'm losing and I've had people say my face looks smaller so something must be going right.

Keeping track of calories is helping me to think twice about what I'm eating, so thank you to the people who suggested that.  It's a lot less tempting to get a snack I don't need when I know I've already eaten a million calories that day.

Still need to work on balancing out the meals.  I seem to eat the same amount of calories at dinner as I do for breakfast and lunch combined...

Have a good week gang.

Happy Tuesday!

My husband had his first day home by himself yesterday.  Trying to be helpful, he cooked lentils for dinner, which was nice, except he left them on the stove and got distracted, and burned them to ash.  Turns out that burnt lentils smell exactly like burning..well..something more fun than lentils.  So this morning I left him burning some incense to cover up the other smell and gave him a nice long list of things to do around the house that will keep him out of the kitchen.

I did week 2, day 1 of the push-up challenge last night and maxed out at 15.  Okay, it's still not many, but I've doubled what I did in my initial test, so I'm happy with it.

nice job.  I lost a pound as well, but I would rather gain a couple...my diet needs some work-I don't eat much after noon.

I would really like my muscle mass to go up a bit.

I am on track for the push-up plan, but I missed most of my scheduled Oly workouts last week.  I had a friend from out of town staying with me and it kept me really busy...I only got 4 hours of sleep per night while he was here.  I have decided to start week one again.

When is your Oly scheduled?  Do you have enough time to start your plan over?  It sounds like you need to catch up on some sleep too!

Out of interest - what's a water trot?  I was looking at your log and trying to figure that one out.

Something to do with all the puddles around at the moment?

I completed my first half marathon on Sunday, it was GREAT!  I didn't feel like I was prepared to "race" it, so I treated it as a long/slow run.

My main goals were to

1. Have Fun

2.Finish

3.Keep consistent with LOW HR.

I accomplished all 3!

When is your Oly scheduled?  Do you have enough time to start your plan over?  It sounds like you need to catch up on some sleep too!

I haven't decided on a race yet.  I am planing on starting the season with a few sprints.

I am doing BT's 16 week Oly plan

hmmm... this is one important bullet point from that plan:

Re-organize the program around to suit your schedule.  JUST REMEMBER to keep the short sessions and Off days around the Long sessions.  This will allow plenty of rest before and after the long sessions.  You don't have to do 'two-a-days' if your schedule doesn't permit.  Just reorganize this and train on 6 days instead of 5.  Although you will have to do two-a-days if doing the 3x program.  You will have better success if your two-a-days are split up in the morning and night sessions.

Starting it is the hardest thing to do, especially when you get hit with other distractions, like guests.  You'll find a way to get it going, and if you miss a day, well... then you just miss a day.  It's the big picture and the volume that really count.  When you're at the starting line, whether you ran 75 miles or 70 miles in training is pretty negligible.  It's easy to get bummed and down if you know you're missing a session, and that can bleed into the next day, and the next, and the next.  When really, it's just a missed session and it has no bearing on what you have to tomorrow.

When I did my Oly plan, I looked at it from week to week.  How close could I get each week to what the plan said?  If work or something wiped a day out, I'd look at the plan and see what I was missing.  If it was a run (something I needed to do), I'd cancel a swim later in the week and move the run.  I didn't need the swim near as much.  So look week to week and work on the weakness  If you really, really, really need pool work, make your goal each week to get the swim sessions in.  If you need to postpone or cancel a run (or whatever your strength is) to do it or get some rest, then do just that.
