Anyone care to join me in the weekly Friday happy dance?

I am planning a spin class after work tonight, long ride tomorrow and long run on Saturday.  I think it'll be okay seeing as my long ride is only about 1.5 hours and the long run is only at the 5 mile mark right now.   What's everyone else got going?

In case I'm not around to say it, super big awesome GOOD LUCK to Eric and Justin this weekend!  You guys are going to do amazing.

Oh, and thank you so much for everyones comments the other day... husband actually said to me this morning that he wants to go look at Bowflexes and a Treadmill this weekend.  That is HUGE for him... so I'm really excited.  If nothing else, they will be nice additions to my home gym. (muah ha ha ha)

I'll join you in the happy dance! It felt great this AM not having a long run!

Great news about the home gym! After he's run for a bit just start mentioning 5Ks and get him hooked

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I hope it goes well, should be fun, crowd support was great last year and can't complain with 25,000 athletes in the race.

Happy Friday everyone!

I don't know about the 5ks, he's not exactly the runner type.  But I can definately see him doing a lot of lifting and marital arts... that's mroe his speed.

Oh yea, and if you feel like you need a little push at any point during your 26.2, my "Finding Nemo swim technique" also works for running.  Sing to yourself or out loud (which would provide great entertainment for those around you)........'When life gets you down do you wanna know what you've gotta do? ....Just keep running. Just keep running. Just keep running, running, running. What do we do? We run, run.'  You can thank me later!

I always end up singing "ooooh barracuda" if I'm running and need a push.

And as a second weird-ism... I also hum the wicked witch of the west theme song when cycling... da da da da da da... da da da da da da.... da da da da da da.... daaaaa.

It is now stored in my memory banks... for motivation, humor and distraction!!! Tanks-a-million!

Side note - Cake - "The Distance" = my ultimate push me song...  "Engines thumping, pumping in time............He's going the distance, he's going for speed.  All alone in this time of need."

Luckily for y'all... you can't hear me singing it right now... I oughta be on American Idol... the bad audition part... lol!

Well Gang... I hope Eric had as good a race as I did.  I accomplished my goal... Chip Time of 3:28:46 (7:58 Pace) and a Gun Time of 3:29:30.  I ran with a pace team, and it made a big difference... very consistent, and I ran the entire course - another first for me.

My quads and calves are more sore then they have ever been, but the pain is a good kind of pain and I am getting around good.  Feet are sore with some slight blister issues (I am blaming that on the socks I choose) - Nike Elite L/R foot socks with pads etc.  I had run in them before - several shorter 10 miles or less runs without issue.  But today - there are blisters.

Thanks again to everyone for your encouragement and confidence... I did sing (in my mind on more than one occassion) Kelli's - keep running jingle.

Thanks! Your 3:28 was an amazing race for those conditions! It was much warmer than normal so just imagine what'll happen next marathon when it's 40deg out for you

I was very happy with my race, just wish I didn't have  so much left at the end. Of course I'd rather that than be holding on for dear life like I was last year The crowd was amazing, every time I'd run through a group of them I double checked my HR and sure enough they were pushing me harder than I wanted

As I was heading down Allen parkway (~mile 11), I come up on a group and what's playing... He's going the distance, he's going for speed... it was awesome timing!

Thanks ~ I am not sure when I will run the full in Houston again...maybe 2011.  2010 I am doing the half with the guys from the park...a noncompetitive run with the buds.

Push too hard, didn't push hard enough... always the begging question after a race.

My cardio was good - I felt great...had HR under control for the pace (I may have been able to drop the pace by 10-15 secs per mile) BUT...

My muscular fitness in my legs...would not have been able to handle it.  I could feel slight cramping in my left calf and my quads burned for the last 3-4 miles.  Had I not been with the Pace Team, I would have slowed or even walked some... They really kept me in the game.  I didn't want to drop from the group after running with them for the entire race.

Epyon - 2009-01-17 3:34 PMHow is everyone's weekend going?  Training?
Weekend training just ok on my end. Yesterday did my regular Saturday morning run with the group. I'm actually reallly proud of myself for getting out since it was only 6 degrees here...once you got going it actually wasn't that bad. Planned to do a long trainer ride today but spent most of the day feeling under the weather.
