My turn to bump us off the second page.

Let's see - I usually run and swim on Thursdays.  I did get my am run in, but was at work late - didn't feel like going to the pool - so I came home, ate dinner, then pigged out on cheetos and saltines with extra crunchy peanut butter.  Can I log a junkfood binge session as training?  Is that an "other" sport?

Hope everyone is doing well, it sounds like you are all putting in some good time.

I know we have had this discussion before, but I'm a little worried about my running. I started upping my running milage considerably, and the first two weeks went great. I was running longer, and sometimes faster too, than I ever have before with no problems.

Then I seemed to hit a wall this week. Very discouraging. I'm not winded at all, I just have shooting pains up and down my legs and in my ankles, which makes me want to stop and not risk injury. I know it's time to get some new Zoot Tempo +'s, which I train in, and I'm hoping this is the cause of the problem.

Anyone else experienced this pain after a significant increase in running milage?

Managed to get another run in today, though not as fast paced as yesterday it was still an nice 4 miler.  Trying to stick with the longer yet slower runs for a while.  I figure running 26.2 mile through completion is better than 6 really fast then not finishing at all.

As far as the shooting pains up the legs, I only expereince this when it is time to replace shoes.  Not that I am a doctor or saying that is your exact issue, but for me that is the big sign that I overused a pair of shoes.

this deff sounds like shin splints from upping milage too much/shoes wearing out.

back off a bit, get new shoes and see what happens. while you are at it if you want to send a pair of the zoots my way, mine are getting worn out;-)

Patrick, good luck fixing the leg pain.

"David I", good luck with the race this weekend.  Can't see any recent log information, I hope all is well.

Malcolm, yes you are expected to log junk food eating.  The touble is, it counts as negative workout time.

Everyone else, I hope all is well.

Hey everyone,

Wow, there's alot to read when you miss a couple of days.

I too have been eating cheetos.  I think we could add that somehow to bicep curls if you're eating them with proper form.

Keep up the great job everyone.

I'm taking tomorrow off and hydrating for the indoor tri.  I'm in heat four at 11:15.  I'll let you know how it goes.

Good news.  I never made to the grocery store tonight.  Hopefully I'll have Cheetos tomorrow.  Nice fun on FB.  I trust I did not go too far with my comment on your status.  It just seemed too funny to me to pass up.

Hehe... no worries Thomas - I was laughing at how that managed to spiral and morph into something completely different that I would have expected.  All good entertainment!

In all of last year I ran 635 miles and since Jan 18 I have run just over 110 miles.  I've tried to keep up with cycling and started weight training for the first time this month.  I am doing fine but I am tired, a bit sore, and starting to sense some strange pains in my legs.  I hope to keep running regularly next week, but I think I run slower and shorter for the next 10 days.

Umm, the "never seen before" comment would be the right one.  Again, I "plan" to run easy and shorter for the next 10 days.  I also plan to take one or two of those days off entirely.

I feel better tonight.  Time on the bike always makes my legs feel better.

if i were you and wanted to be able to run well come april, may, june, i would back off over hte next ten days, run easier, shorter, and a bit less, say 4-5 times per week, no more than 30 min ish, and keep it easy.

for what its worth aside from my longer run rightn ow i am not going over 30min for really anything, and most of those runs are VERY easy paced.

you are doing the right thing by backing off a bit.

bike a bit more this week and slowly build the running back.

I have finally got most of my race schedule figured out now.  I will do a sprint June 28th in Cheyenne, another sprint July 21st (my way or the tri way... you get to pick the order of the events), either an oly or sprint in Aug (rattlesnake tri), and a duathlon long course in Sept (Crestent Moon Long Course).  The long course is 4 weeks before the steamtown marathon so I think I will use that distance as part of my training.

Good afternoon guys/girls,

David I have a ?? for you. I have signed up for the Flying Pig 1/2 Marathon. I am using it for a supported training run. I have the TTT about 3 wks after, so do I run it at race pace seeing as I won't be swim/bike before or do I run a slower pace ?? (I know I need to get my butt back in gear too and get running and stuff and I will come tomorrow.) If slower what pace do you think. The TTT is my main goal for early season.

Thanks,
Chris

Well maybe I am trying to get better than you.  hehe just kidding.  As I said I do intend to take 10 easier days.  (for running at least, maybe I'll have some hard cycling days in there).  Today I took an easy 25 minute run on the treadmill.  Next Sunday I committed to a 1hr run with a friend.  I'll take it easy up to that run.

Nice job on the bike yesterday.  2 hours at 23mph sounds pretty good.  My cycling is not yet where it was at this time last year (I think).

Ok - The cheetos totally paid off.  I took 1st in my age bracket today and 3rd or 4th overall.  I'll know overall when it gets posted online.

The swim was my weak link at 14.5 laps for 725 yards

The bike felt good 6.97 miles(12.267 yards) I was mostly at 28-29 mph and ocassionally dropped to 26 mph.

The run also felt good.  18.75 laps (3,000 yards).

I have some work to do, but overall I'm happy with the perfomance.  Bringgin' home the hardware feels good.  Not bad for my first ever event.

Thanks to all for keeping me motivated.

Kelly

man i need to try more cheetos, nice race!

chris, i would run it and see how you feel goign into it, ie dont taper and run the best you can that day, and then taper after that for TTT, as long as you dont back off the training leading up to it, you wont overdue it come race day.
