Expert 1007 Hattiesburg, Mississippi | Subject: RE: Fighting Okra - September End of Summer Challenge skrtrnr - 2009-09-16 4:16 PM hello okra-ites. as if the cruds earlier werent enough to get the week off on the wrong foot, now i have contracted a nasty case of athlete's foot, that has all but engulfed my poor littlest piggy-toe. i went to the Dr cuz a) the sprays/creams ive been using the past 3 days didnt seem to be helping and b) it developed these god-awful blisters and the whole toe, albeit little, was becoming red and inflammed. the doctor gave me some scripts, but thought after a little more time the OTC med would work....then she said to try and keep that area dry. that just made me literally LAUGH OUT LOUD. uhm. you know im a triathlete right? yes. im in a perpetual state of wet, every day. wet from sweat. wet from swimming. wet from showering. aye. theres the rub. im actually surprised this hasnt happened to me sooner, considering all the places my feet touch. ok just gross when you start thinking about it. im glad that it seems 'limited' just to the one piggy. ive seen the online pictures/how bad it can be. you need a strong stomach to look at some of those photos. ICKY-poo. FUNGUS OR NOT, i will NOT be deterred. the cream seems to be working already, so i was able to do my ride today w/out issue. im planning on swimming tomorrow. flipflops from here on out, on the deck, in the locker room and showers. then ill try for my long run on Friday. which leaves me a long ride, and speedwork as 'essentials'. Saturday will most likely be my long ride.....as to how long will be, we shall see. that will leave Sunday for speedwork. 8x400 intervals. WOOT. then a nice taper before the COOK FOREST RIDE and THE GREAT RACE 10K awaits..... w ALL the CRAZY-goings-on this week, i think trng is coming together well, inspiteof. stacieb Sorry about Little Toe! I have seen pics of the the dreaded fungi but have never had it myself. I always wear foot protection in the showers at the gym and some folks have criticized me, although you probably didn't get it from your gym, after hearing your story (blisters? Blech!) I'll keep doing what I am doing. I mean man, how would you keep feet dry??? Hope your foot is feeling better and you get that long (dry) run in!! |

Expert 1007 Hattiesburg, Mississippi | Subject: RE: Fighting Okra - September End of Summer Challenge As for me, Thursdays are always a washout, especially today as even after work there is a function I have to go to, so it will be a 12+ hour day! Thank God my job does not have me chained to a desk or I would go bonkers! I never got in that swim yesterday evening. Drove through a nasty, windy, lightning filled storm to the lake, and sat under a shelter with my swim buddies as we watched the storm over the water, it was very fun to watch, but the lightning and thunder never really went away, we finally bailed about 6:45 PM. Hope every one has a great day!! |

I'll keep doing what I am doing. I mean man, how would you keep feet dry??? Hope your foot is feeling better and you get that long (dry) run in!! yay. its pretty gross JEN. the blisters are the worst part i think, theyre little, but man oh man they hurt, and its making it hard to walk (let alone run) and to wear my running shoes because of where they are located.... if it was just the peeling, itching, burning thing, i dont think it would be so bad, but... oh well. just gonna have to wait it out. i told the doctor i was a zallion places where i could have picked it up, the showers at the marina when we were boating, my brothers camp, when my shoes were damp when i did that trail run, to the pool deck and showers at the Y. she said its easily contracted, so.... and yeah. hysterical. try to keep my feet dry. give me a break. thing is, my little toe is oddly shaped, and nestles right against the big toe, i dont think its been dry there since the day i was born. LOL. i guess maybe ill have to think about using some astringent, or ive read people using antiperspirant on their feet too. add one more step/item to my personal grooming regime. yay fun! though, i have to say, ill do just about anything to avoid having this again, its dreadful. stacieb |

The new chain seems to be working well. Will be walking 5 miles around Stone Mountain tonight after work. Getting walks in with friends who are doing the Atlanta 2-Day walk next month. YAY! your bike is working well. wooo hoooo. and your walk sounds awesome! Stone Mountain. what's that like? stacieb It's a really cool piece of granite that sticks up out of the ground here in GA. There is a carving on the face of the mountain and they have a laser show there every night from Memorial day through Labor day. The park has lots of activity, but for walking you have a 5 mile walk on sidewalks around the mountain or you can do the trails and that is about 6.5 miles around. You can also hike up the mountain 1.5 miles up for a round trip of 3 miles. You can bicycle around on the roads and on half of the road around the mountain there is a dedicated bicycle and walking lane. This sounds beautiful! |

YAY!! ive gone weeks without cold laser to my foot. and months w/out pain in my foot. pain that almost caused me to stop running altogether, STRUCTURAL MANAGEMENT is da bomb! dinner is prepared. hardwood floors swept. bathrooms cleaned. laundry almost complete. book covers purchased. [every store within a 20 mile radius was out, i called every hour on the hour until the shipment arrived. as soon as it did, i went over lickety split. OI. im FINALLY done school shopping] just waiting on the prodigy to arrive home. heading out for a meet and greet at the school. then to the Y for a 90 min stroke clinic. and here my husband thinks i sit on my arse all day. little does he know. (just kidding) hope everyones day is going swimmingly. JOY! stacieb You have been busy. Glad to hear the foot is doing better. What is this cold laser treatment? Is it good for PF? yeppers. KENDRA cold laser can help with just about anything that ails ya. joint pain, inflammation of the tissues.... as for what it is, they use laser light and w an instrument they direct that light into the area that needs treatment. its the 'cold' end of the light spectrum hence the cold ie its not a temperature thing.... the light in that band/frequency to stimulate cells to promote healing ie reduction in inflammation, restoration of damaged tissue etc. [interestingly they've found soundwaves in specific frequency to promote healing as well, i have a friend that does harmonic therapy using a didgeridoo] they started out using it on my foot, inbetween my metatarsals where i developed bursitis, within a week i had relief from my symptoms, within a few weeks, the symptoms stopped altogether and ive been symptom free for weeks now. [before trmnt i was taking daily doses of naproxen/ibuprofen 3-4xs a week] they also have used it on my lower back/SI joint 2-3xs. again relief w/in the first week, now no pain at all...... the past two weeks i havent need any cold laser treatment at all, just manual adjustments. moving forward! YAY! its pretty cool. non-invasive. you dont feel a thing when they use it. the instrument itself looks a little bit like what they use when you have a sonogram....a handle w a rounded end, like in the shape of a gord/skinny pear.... stacieb you can chk out my chiro's website for more info about cold laser/structural management protocol. http://www.pennellcc.com/ hummm I may have to check this out!! |

BUT....the microbrewery is totally fab and their home brews according to my fellow riders were AWESOME. you can try any of their brews in these small glasses (a double shot glass) for a BUCK each. the food is really good too and the ambience is way cool....the owner is an artist, and he has all these really whimsical wood carving throughout the entire place...the have a huge wooden deck out front so you sit outside. super mid-ride lay over. stacieb Now this is more my kind of bike ride!! *beer riding TOPPage* Edited by kimk 2009-09-17 8:12 AM |

Wed's long run is out of the question for sure, though im feeling 'clearer' i still feel wiped out. a long run would not be good.... it can wait til later in the week, even over the weekend if necessary. just trying to think it through, and make good choices. im not the best at this sorta thing. i tend to get back at it too soon, and end up making an improving situation worse, and then i have a set-back. never seem to know whats best/right/...... how do you all guage this sort of thing? i have friends on one end of the continuum who say, wait it out, an extra few days wont hurt, and then other friends that train through every illness, injury. i guess i find myself somewhere in the middle.... i dont feel the need to be 110% symptom free, but im not about to train on through whatever either. sorry for the blabbering. there must be still some snot pressing on my brain. have a happy everyone! stacieb Stacie sorry to hear this thing is holding on...as for the training I wait until my energy level is back...unless it has been a while then I wonder if I am getting into a slump and then push myself to do something...if I feel good then I do more if not then I stop....I also don't get sick very often but when I do it knocks me out!
