Easy tempo 6 miler in season personal best of 44:48. WHo would have thought I would be doing personal bests after I turned 40?

Congrats on the PR! Remember that Lake Placid will be cooler than your pool. You may want the long sleeves come race day. Good that you are practicing now.

fungi32 - 2010-04-21 5:18 AM No open water swims but plenty of swimming. I really had no issues with the swim I did take in more water than usual but felt pretty good getting on the bike. I am really at a loss I do know I did not take enough fluids on the bike and I was dehydrated on the run but as to what happened I am at a loss????? I think the best thing is forget it and drive on. I went on a 5 mile run yesterday and had a really good run felt good and for me ran a great time so I do not know? I am getting a open water swim in this weekend and then have a sprint scheduled the following weekend and the 1/2 swim is in brackish water in the James River which will be my first salt water swim, not an ocean swim but the river does have salt at the point the swim will occur.

Maybe it was just a stomach thing.

How was your nutrition? Did you work on anything (in the limited time you did feel good) that you want to try in the half?

I was wondering that - my wetsuit though is about 11 years old and feels very constricting due to the sleeves I think - please help me decide. I am also doing a half in May in NJ and the water is usually cold too. SHould I get a newer full? or get a sleeveless top for my desoto?

2 attempts at an 18 mile run. One on Saturday and one on Sunday. On Saturday, my form started to fall apart at mile 9, so I just focused on getting home with the best possible form. I ended up around 11.6 miles

On Sunday I felt better, but at mile 11.8, I saw my wife who said my daughter was sick and wasn't going to church and that she would be fine at home by herself. She is 11 and this would be the first time at home by herself for any length of time. I started running again, but stressed about her, so I just went home. The worst part is I felt better on Sunday than I did on Saturday and would have easliy finished the 18 (in theory anyway)

I will taper the next two days with swims, Friday off and then sprint Saturday. While my psyche is still in shock from the rumpass I should be just fine.

Scott, I hope your cramps went away. If not, I hope you sat that one out. No need to push it if you don't need to.

Kip, good luck and have fun with your race. Try out part of your nutrition plan even though it is just a sprint. At this point use every race as a prep for your half Ironman.

I got in a spin on the bike before dinner tonight.

I am running with a coworker tomorrow at lunch.

So, what's going on Scott? How are you feeling? Are you injured or just run down and lacking motivation/ power?

Actually I am feeling great, never been a great morning runner. Always run best at end of day. The cramps were 100% due to running immediately after eating diner food - not gonna do that again.

Did a 3.4 mile hill run this morning in 26:37. Still having trouble getting out the door and getting loose. No problems waking up though. Hmmmm.

Just picked up a used Blue Seventy Reaction full suit from a friend to try out this weekend in the pool. Havent tried it on yet, but man is it way lighter then the two piece suite I currently have. Lets keep our fingers crossed that it works for me.

Tried out the new wetsuit. Wow it is amazing. Felt comfortable, unrestricted and not fatigued at the end. Yes I started overheating, but the pool is warm to begin with. Did my faster 1000m swim ever in 18:04 2 minutes faster then previous. A pace of 1:48/100m.

Officially back from the race, went pretty well 5 minutes faster than last year at the same event so pretty pleased. I think in retrospect some of my issues 2 weeks ago were dehydration related but no issues this race quick little flip out in the run start for the swim then pretty smooth sailing. Going to take a couple days off regroup and then start official training for the 1/2.

I love running in the rain... or at least in a drizzle. I hate when my shoes get wet, but otherwise I love it.

Kip, congrats on your race. Glad to hear there were no stomach issues. You are ready to take on the half now.

Officially start my half training tomorrow, no real structured plan but will do what I can during week with work and long run swim and bike on weekends, I have looked at numerous plans and will set down this weekend and draft some rough plan but mostly just go by feel. Not worried about swim and bike but really need to focus on nutrition and the run. Ready to go looking forward to lots of help and support.

Fungi - which half are you doing. I like your idea of finding a plan to train with just as a guide. I have never been one to be "married" to my plan because inevitably things come up with work, family, or otherwise. Good luck with your training. I have a half as a warm-up in 2.5 weeks in western New Jersey.

That's funny, because I am completely opposite. I NEED a plan. The one thing that I love most about my tri training is the structure of a plan. I hire a coach for every one of my long races. At this point I could write my own plan, but I hire one because I am cheap and hate to waste money, so I follow the plan to a "T".

I don't have a plan for this marathon next month and I am all over the place. I might still end up in the same spot, but who knows. My coworker calls me a binge runner. The thing is, I am getting my long runs done and feel good, plus I have the flexibilty to train when I want and can listen to my body. But, if given the option of sitting on the couch or running... running loses out every time! Maybe if I survive this marathon, I will start to figure out my own training plans

I think I will setup or have a rough plan but most of the plans I have looked at start at a point that I feel I would be taking a step back on the starting base portion, so I hope to do some longer base stuff and then try and plug into the speed portions later in the plan, but I will have something to go by I just really cannot count on getting every workout in and if I have a plan I feel terrible when I miss something and find myself skipping recovery days which just kills me, so rough plan, follow it as close as I can is the plan at this point? open to suggestions for sure
