I agree, first day after is rough...  2 days after is the roughest...

Good swim last night.

Biked to work this morning..  Only 1 early morning idiot who I guess could not see bright flashing red lights in front of his car.  Got here safe, will be fun returning later, more idiots but at least there will be sunlight.

Steve, good for you biking to work.  Is it dark the entire ride in the AM?  Around here you are taking you putting your life in danger if you bike in the dark.

Hi again Steve.  I just noticed that you are a gold member.  (Have you always been or am I just now noticing?)  Anyway, how do you like it.  Is it worth the extra $$.

Yes it is very dark...  Sun rise is now at 7:30 AM, so getting in before 7 it was dark....  After the other nearly killed riding in the dark thread, I am rethinking this until it gets a little lighter out in the morning.

I have been for a while...  The information is good if you use it.  I was asking a lot of questions and getting good answers.  Then I slowed down my training and stopped talking to the coaches.

I need to get restarted on that.

Usually within 24 hours week-day and no later then Monday on the week-end.

Welcome back..

Long ride for me, then swimming...  Right knee is bothering me...

Upset because I can not get the cadence magnet close enough to the sensor to register.

Determined I was pushing it too hard in the swim...  Too tired to run...  Not enjoying the bike...

So tonight was a nice easy workout about 1600 nice and easy at 1:15 / 50 yd pace.  Probably do the same on Weds.

Tri on Sat says water temp in low 60s.  I do not own a wet suit, do not practice with one, so I will pass on the super sprint and look at one in April.

HI Steve,
Too bad about the Tri on Saturday.  Yeah, low 60's without a wet suit would be brutal.  I sure wouldn't want to do that.  Hopefully, you will be able to find one in April and Florida will start having some actual Florida weather and warm up that water.

Sometimes, it's refreshing to have a "nice, easy" swim, and not push it.  I like swimming like that when the water temp is just right (warm for me).  It's actually relaxing.

Susie

There is a "local" tri in April, about 30 minutes north.  My Swim coach will be one of the life guards, so he wants me to register.  Another easy day today..  only 1500 and mostly easy...  slight pain in left shoulder when doing tennis ball swimming, went to kicking...

Have not run in a few weeks, need to restart... Tri camp packet pickup on April 8.

Thanks guys, it’s nice to be back.

So I was just wandering how I can improve my running. I have gone downhill quite a bit since last season and now I am worse than I was before. Does anyone have any pointers for me?

Hi Mindy,
When you say ;your running has gone downhill, do you mean in terms distance or speed?  Are you just getting back into running after not running for some time?

Well, I'm back. And I'm officially a couch potato.

I finally went to see a doctor. It's PF. (Yes, I already knew that. But no matter what I did, it wasn't getting better. )

So I'm wearing this thingy on my foot/heel now. I'm supposed to "rest" (no running/jogging, minimize walking, don't do anything that puts pressure on the heel/foot) for at least 5 days.

Bleh.

And I have a 5K in a week? Hm.....

How are you at Hand Stands...  Just put one hand in front of the others....

Or you can do like my wife and go in a wheel chair and have someone push you the entire race...  No way to come in last this way....  She had toe surgery 2 days before a 5K

Actually, I did think about walking on my hands. But I did NOT think of traveling via wheelchair.

I'd told the doctor that the 5K was in two weeks. She had a horrified look on her face when I said it....

Then, I got home, looked at the calendar, and saw it's really in ONE week.

Just imagine how horrified she'd have looked at THAT one.

Well Howdy Dee, and welcome back!

Sorry about the PF.  That injury is very tricky.  I actually started having problems with it several weeks back, starting to have pain on the arch of of foot.  I'm sure you've tried these ideas but in case you haven't this is what has worked for me, although my problems were only at the very beginning.   I use The Foot Roller (hurts like heck at first),  but even better is rolling on a frozen plastic pop bottle.  (Put water in - then freeze)  You get a good roll and ice at the same time.  In addition, I sleep wearing a boot designed especially for PF.  You can get it at Walgreens for around 25- 30 dollars.  That really helps.  You know how the first few steps in the morning can hurt - not when using this boot.  It keeps the foot in a flexed position which stretches the calf muscle.  One of the main culprits of PF is tight calves.  You should also stretch you calves daily.  you can do this easily by standing on a step and letting you heels hang down. (always wear shoes when doing this).

I hope with your doctors help you can get the better of this and get back to running.  And no need to be a complete couch potato, do some strength, core or stationary bike. Smile

I myself decided to be a potato today.  I had my 20 miler for Boston scheduled for today and the weather is so-so (upper 40's ) but with a very strong wind off the lake.  Soooooo.... since I am on spring break next week and the weather is forecast to bet better each day  I decided to do my run during the week.  Also, I went out with friends last night and had wine for the first time since starting my elimination diet. Actually,  I probably hadn't had any alcohol since New Years and....I felt it today. Not sick, but very sluggish - no energy, slight headache.  I am such a wimp.

Couch potato update:  I did not succumb to the great temptation of laziness.  Decided I would get on the trainer, but then realized if I did my long run on Tuesday, I would essentially be missing Tuesday's run, so I did the Tuesday run today on the treadmill.  I have only missed 5 miles of my Boston training (twice overslept and couldn't get in the full run), so I didn't want to miss due to being a lazy a$$ wimp.   And, I felt much better after the run.  Nothing like a good sweat to get all the toxins out.
