ironannekidd - 2010-08-23 8:39 AM Ann can't nail an interview, but she'd happily nail a Ghoulie, TopPage!

Ever tried an interview seminar thing? We have a career place at my school and they do one on one interview prep/help. I did one for my med interview and it really helped to have someone to sit there and give suggestions for answering certain questions, etc. I know they offer general interview/telephone/teleconference interviewing seminary things too. Maybe a school near you has something similar? I think it cost me about $20 for an hour.

Keeping my fingers crossed for anyone out there job hunting.

Thanks Kendra, my trip this week is actually for an interview.  My preference is to stay put in NJ for now, but if I have to move Atlanta is not a bad place.

kcarroll - 2010-08-23 10:26 AM Ok Ghouligans, time to let you know about some of the changes getting ready to happen in NJ. Yesterday I went to the office and cleared out all my personal items.  Wasn't much to collect as I've been bringing things home slowly over the last several months.  Next Monday I will drop off my computer, phone, credit card etc.  I will then officially be unemployed.  This has been coming for a very long time.  The company reorganized earlier this year, resulting in my job being eliminated.  I was asked to stay and a new job was created but it just didn't work.  We agreed about a couple months ago that I would leave.  I've transitioned everything and it is now time to go.

I am certainly nervous about looking for work in this economy, but very happy with the decision. Finances aren't a concern, for now at least, so I may also take a bit of time and just fall of the grid for a bit.  I will be running lots between now and MCM but that is not enough to keep me entertained so I've also started looking at some classes and volunteer opps.

Anyhow, that is enough said on the matter.

Wow Kim - hope everything falls into place for you!

Great idea on classes and volunteering - make the resume look good!

Thanks Bill.  Well, they were mostly for keeping me from being bored and getting in trouble, but you make a good point.

I'm sorry things worked out that way for you, Kim. You could come to PA and play with my puppy while I'm at work if you need something to do.

Thanks Ann.  Very generous, but foolish if you want Milo to have any manners. Neither of my cats know any boundaries at all.

If someone asks me how to do something on a computer/server I can tell them without even thinking. Most of the time though, at least in my experience, they will ask to define this word, or explain this process. I can't spit the words out for those. I can't define words when my kids ask me what they mean, let alone computer terminology.

It couldn't hurt to look into something like that though. I sent out several resumes last week and a few more today, so maybe I'll look today when I have nothing to do here.

Kendra, you are right about Atlanta vs NJ.  I grew up south of the city and lived in Buckhead for about 6 years after college.  It's a great place, although it has changed a lot.  I remember when Holcolmb Bridge Road was the country and GA 400 didn't exist.  Reluctance to move is more of an industry thing.

Wish we could get together, but probably won't happen this trip.  That said, given that I won't be working I will be back down for other reasons.  My BFF lives in N. Duluth and I'll be down for other visits.

With dogs you have no litter boxes, mine are trained to go in one of the fields. My dogs are also very rarely on a leash, but I do live in BFE. PLUS when was the last time you could play fetch with your cat, or take him on a hike and watch him go swimming?

I have never seen a service cat, or therapy cat, either.

Here if your dog is out without a lease, you can get a ticket and they can go to the pound.  If you leave the dog inside for too long, they can't go outside.  I play laser tag with the cats all the time.  Ooooooh does that make me laugh watching them do somersaults trying to get the light.  OK, I guess that's not a good example.  LOL

Our dog was afraid of electronic toys.  She would bark her head off at them, but if they came anywheres near her, she ran.

By the way.  I like dogs and cats.  It's just my life is not good for a dog right now, and the cats I can leave for long days or for a week and know that they are going to be okay (as long as I left the food & lots of kitty litter out for them).

Thanks Ann.  Very generous, but foolish if you want Milo to have any manners. Neither of my cats know any boundaries at all.

Um... dogs are smarter than cats. I'm just sayin'.

that depends.  Cats are smart enough to manage getting through life having people feed them, pet them, clean their litter boxes, keep them warm and safe and don't need to be on a leash when outside.  Just saying... Cat 10
Cats also don't let people give them horrible haircuts.  Walking The Dog Female

My 2 oldest dogs will bark at the wind blowing. Milo barks at his food dish, and this morning at his shadow.

Gotta weigh in on the dog/cat discussion.  I love dogs, but like Kendra they don't work with my lifestyle (pending changes excluded.)  One of the volunteer opps I'm looking at is at the Seeing Eye institute where they train service dogs.

I have really cool cats.  One is old and getting rather frail, but he was a terror in his younger days - in a good way.  My other one is like a dog in a cat's body.  He fetches, follows you around and when the doorbell rings he runs to greet whoever is there.  When they come in, he rolls over for a belly scratch. He's great with little kids, which is odd for a cat. And he likes water, but sadly can't go outside.  Around here, he'd be lunch for some fox.

I took Milo out with friends on Saturday. They had their 2 German Shepherds and I had him and we went places that were dog friendly. Their dogs have been in training forever, they just got certified as therapy dogs. We were talking about training Milo, and possibly Wynn, my lab, as service dogs for me. Since I have the arthritis in my spine I can't always bend over or get down to pick things up, they said I could train my dogs to do it for me then. If they are service dogs I can take them out with me when I go places. Service dogs ROCK!
