Hi all,

Hope every one is having a good day.  Anybody dealing with ice?  We were supposed to, but all we have gotten is a bit of rain here.  My biking and swimming have been severely neglected over the winter - okay, they have been totally ignored.  I put the new trainer tire on my bike over the weekend, it was actually easier than I expected after reading some people's horror stories!  And, I asked my husband to put my bike back on the trainer today (he is laid off right now and home all day).  My plan is to go home after work and go for a ride.  I even have a Quantum Leap DVD to watch that I got from the library.  Yes, I am a geek!  Anyway, I thought maybe I wasn't ready to hop right into the Spinervals, so I thought I would start with Quantum Leap!!  The Spinervals is new - a Christmas present - so I don't know how hard it really is.

Oh, and I am definitely in the group of "best shape of my life" now.  I feel great.  I may not be fast, but I am consistent.  I know that I can finish the race.  And, did I mention, I feel great!!!!

Ice? Maybe there is some ice somewhere under the foot of snow. I can't see it though. The wind is blowing and it's snowing so hard I can barely see my neighbors house across the street! LOL

They were calling for up to an inch of ice here, changing to snow this evening.  We got absolutely nothing!

I got in a 45 minute trainer ride this evening.  I haven't been on my bike in so long, I think I forgot how hard it can be.  But, it felt good and I got to try out a new pair of bike shorts that I got for Christmas.  And the episode of Quantum Leap kept me distracted!

I woke up to 18" of snow and a 4' snow drift in front of my garage. It took me 2 hours of shoveling to clear the driveway. Still no plow came to clear the street. After I went inside for a while the plow came, but still hasn't plowed the cul de sac I live in. I couldn't leave the house if I tried!

the groundhog didn't see his shadow, brian- that means you won't be shoveling snow soon!! this morning was 45 degrees and sunny (although the sun lasts for an entire 20 minutes here). i so wish that i could take off today to go jogging. it's like spring here!!! until tonight when it is suppose to go down to 10 degrees and snow.

I'm pretty sure the groundhog was snowed in!! I'm not sure that counts. LOL We're supposed to get another 2-6" but I can tell we've already got another 2. It's supposed to get below zero tonight.

I'm still sick anyway. Feeling like crap and really bummed I'm skipping workouts on this marathon plan. Who know's if I'll be able to do this or not in April!

yeah, i'm totally ready to ditch all the layers for sure. so i just found out about this meadville triathlon, which is held on june 26th that i might sign up for. i was looking at pictures from previous years and there are some people who are wearing bathing suits in the lake instead of wet suits. bathing suits for a triathlon? really?? is this common?

I've seen people do that for sprint tri's. Especially women. Men, not so much unless it's a speedo or jammers. After you've done some longer distance tri's the sprints are REALLY fun. As you build endurance and speed your not on the bike very long at all in a sprint tri, so having a padded tri short is not always necessary. Personally, I will probably always where some sort of tri short. But, others find it comfortable to do the whole thing in a bathing suit.

It's official:  my first ever Olympic Tri will be June 4th at the Rev3 event in Quassy, CT.

Registered and ready to go.  Going to sign up for the Bassman Sprint on May 1 as a warm up, and possible compete in some road races/local duathlons along the way.

What could you possible wear in the midsts of hundreds of people that are basically prancing around in their underwear that would make you look like a dork? I'm saying you can get away with wearing a swimsuit in a sprint tri. You may not be very comfortable on the bike though.

Nice Jon!! now you something you're shooting for instead of just training for the sake of training!

Thanks for all the suggestions on what to do while I'm on vacation! Not sure I'll have access to stairs, Brian, since I'll be living on a boat, but I'll keep my eyes open when I'm on land. And I found a cool Pilates workout that is audio and can be downloaded for iPod use so I might try that too.

Re: swimsuits in tris - that was a question I asked a lot when I started looking at races. Maybe the people in swimsuits are slipping on shorts in the transition stations too?

In an ironman you can do a full change. There is a guys/girls tent for changing in transition. I haven't seen one at any other events. I've never seen anyone wear board short type swimsuits or anything, just jammers, speedo's, or competition swimsuits. Some people just have different tolerances to things and it doesn't bother them to be without a pad. In a sprint, some of us are only on the bike for 1/2 hour anyway.

Everyone is different with bike seats. I always say it's 90% shorts 10% seat anyway. A good set of bike shorts can't be beat! Go to you LBS. Ask them if they have some method to help you find a good seat for you. Some of them have different methods to measure sit bones and or flexability to get you a good fit. Some also let you try seats for an amount of time and bring them back

I feel sorry for all of you.  It has returned to nice weather here.  Super sunny and warm.  You guys should take a vacation and go somewhere warm like California.   Brian, they have a great triathilon in Santa Barbara called the Long Course.  It is more than an Olympic but less than a HIM.  It is supposed to be one of the toughest Triathilons in California.  Long ocean swim, Real Technical hilly bike ride and a 10 mile run with hills.  It is in August.  It might be a good race on your way to HIM and a super nice vacation too. It is beautiful here.  Mountains meet Ocean.  There are large islands off the coast.  Love it here.

February goals are bike 75 miles, run 7 hours, swim 3,600 yards. So frustrated with the swim. Taking swim lessons and besides my stroke, kick, breathing and timing, everything is just fine. I look at my fellow swimmers gliding through the water and I am so jealous. I swim like I am in a street fight -- all thrashing and crazy effort but no forward progress...Sorry to vent... I believe it will turn around, just wishing it would happen a bit closer to now.

August????......... Chicago is beautiful in August! I want to go now! LOL Last year Anne and I spent 2 weeks in the Caribean in Nov/Dec. That really spoiled us!

I've been to Cali a couple times. I love it! Although, I can't afford it! LOL and Anne is scared to death of earthquakes.

It's 3 below zero today!! yuk!
