November and Jan/ Feb/ March are best for me. Any other time and I am dealing with Pine Gables/ Mom or holidays. The west coast is tough cause of cost but it is all relative. What does everyone else think? The winter is better for me, too. And my preference would be east coast, but I'm bendy flexible. A lot will depend on whether I lose my job due to the budget cuts. The current NC (and fed) political system is not good for those of us in environmental regulatory positions. NC is looking like it is eliminating about 1900 jobs in the department I work for. Money is still tight so budget travel is gonna be a must. |

Champion 16743 Somewhere I can be nekidd | Subject: RE: The Ghoulies are swimmin' like the fishies in June!!! I saw there were 2 or 3 where there was a half marathon, 10k, and 5k. I like that idea. I'd like to do a half marathon, but you never know what may happen. Registation for the Pensacola HM on Jan 15 is dirt cheap! If we did this one I could also use the voucher I have from my missed race this past January. My voucher is only good for a year. Flying to FL from here isn't expensive though, so I could do one in February or March, too.

I like the variable distances, too. I am open to any of them. The further south you go the warmer it is in the winter but, then, compared to what most of us have, Just about anywhere is warmer in the winter. Heck, I can drive to Pensacola in a reasonable amount of time. We should check out Savanah, NOLA and Charleston areas, too. Not hugely warm, but not snowy either and very cool places to visit as well. Let's get some other Ghoulies to chime in. Edited by ceilidh 2011-06-08 7:15 AM |

Elite 3144 | Subject: RE: The Ghoulies are swimmin' like the fishies in June!!! Good morning Ghoulies! OK, you goons have gone and made me excited about this thing. Now I just need to figure out how the hell I'm gonna pay for all the crap I'll need to buy. Stupid expensive sport... I LOVE the idea of coming out east this winter for a running event, but I just don't know if I can make it work with everything I've got at home. However, I know some of you are in moderately close proximity to DC so if I ever go there for work (which will possibly happen sometime between now and December) I'll let you all know so we could try to do at least a Ghoulunch or something.

Tom. Good for you!!! You can rent a wet suit if you need one for the race. I bet with all the tri sports going on around you, you can find a really good used bike. Shoes- well, you need good ones any way. You can do your swim training in a pool mostly and do some OWS in borrowed or rented wet suits. |

I'm very glad I wasn't drinking coffee just now! And Robin - I was thinking along the same lines. I have a bike, so I'm good there and my running shoes should get me through the summer with no problem. I still don't have bike shoes so I think that'll be the first problem to remedy. And for wetsuits, I'll probably rent an Xterra since their warehouse is about 20 min from where I work. My other option there would be a demo model that my LBS has in stock. Anyone here ever use an Orca suit? |

My bike shop is actually a tri shop so they can get anything I'd want too so I definitely have options. My next agenda item is to get the guy I work with who did Kona last year to come look at my training plan draft. I spoke with him briefly this morning and already learned about an Olympic sized pool I hadn't known about before, so I'm already off to a good start! |
