For people that have done both, would you say the CdA and KY bike courses are similar as far as hilliness goes?

amymengel - 2012-03-28 3:54 AM It is also only about 6 weeks before Kona.

Good point! Plus if you are like Amy and KQ'ing you only have 9 weeks to prepare hotel airfare etc for Kona.

Wink  I hope!!!!

I haven't done either so take this with a grain of salt....according to this site:  http://www.triathloncalculator.com/ The number of feet/mile of climbing for each...

- IM Lou: 50 vs. IMCDA 58

Note:  More courses are listed - just click on the "course database" link to see the full list

Does anyone have any guidance on how MTB riding/training would equate to road riding and training?  I previewed the IMKY bike course this weekend and am very glad I was able to get a visual on all of the hills before race day.  Those are not as easy to come by where I am but there are some good MTB trails that would serve will from hill work.

Just trying to figure out there is some generally accepted ratio to go off of.

I don’t know if there is any direct correlation between the two. Occasionally, I will go out on my CX bike and just hammer it for an hour on some XC ski trails behind my house.  I would think that it is = to an hour of pain that my coach would give me on any given day.  If it were me and you had the hills to train on (note that I said if it were me&hellip I would just sit back on those hills and practice spinning up them.

Hi, I'm not a member of the thread, but thought you'd want to know that your entry into IM Louisville gets you into this sweepstakes just announced:

http://ironmanmuncie.com/registration/race-sweepstakes/

You've got to go online to register. You could win a free entry to IM Louisville 2013 or IM 70.3 Muncie 2013.

Wow its dead in here. IM released an updated participant list. There are 2729 people registered as of 4/11. So its getting close to selling out. I think 3000 is the magical number.

Has it ever sold out this late?

I know in 2010 is was the first of March when everything filled up.

There are 2 new North American IM races in August this year.  I'm sure that has a lot to do with it.

I could be wrong but I do not think that it sold out in 2008. When I went to get my finishers certificate in 2007 there was a table set up to sign up for 2008 and there was NO ONE in line at all. The people working the table looked bored.

I agree that the new races in August are probably the reason + the heat, no wetsuits and TT start. In my opinion I doubt that it will be around much longer. I know that there is a contract in play but again IMO it most likely will not get renewed for another 5 year stint.

If they average 3000 entries every year I don't see them changing or canceling the race in the future...

By them adding two additional races in August and it not selling out is saying something. Ironman has a contract with the City of Louisville and it wont go away right away. However if registration continues at this rate, I see them putting their resources elsewhere.

Also, Oldham county doesn't want it in their back yard. There have been residents running cyclists off the road throwing items at them and apparently tacks on race day.

I JUST signed up last night!  Might be interested in riding the bike course sometime - if you know of a group going from central Indiana, please share.  I know Iamtri lists a few organized rides.

The Iamtri rides are AWESOME!!  I'm not sure what Bob and his guys are going to do about the new law (in Oldham County, I think) that requires permits for bike rides with more than 50 people.  I'm sure they'll figure out something.  I know there were way more than 50 people when I did the full course preview ride in early August last year.  I know I'm glad I knew what to expect on race day.

Sorry for the stupid question but why do they call it a TT swim start when really it is who gets in line first, correct?

Ironman claims that one person is leaving every 3 seconds from each of the piers.
