A good saying for today's swim workout is "No rest for the weary". We swam a total of 4200yds, lots of sprints! This was supposed to be a breaststroke week :-) , guess i misplaced the memo during the move.

Friggin' intense!

Work is sucking the life outta me!  Scholarship deadlines so overtime all week and worked another 8 hours today...yes and the three hour drive round trip. I do believe I should get paid overtime for my drive time too.  I managed to get small training in this week but nothing close to the training I was suppose to do.

One more week and then I am headed to So Cal! Can't wait! Get to see my lil punk and a half too. Run on the beaches...bike along the coast...it is all good.

Glad to see the end of a challenging week. I squeezed in all of my planned workouts, but in about as random an order as possible. Finished the last swim tonight. Anybody got a recommendation for some decent swim goggles? Mine start leaking after a few laps; I have to cinch them down so tight they are painful, and they still leak. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have used The Original Swedish Goggles since about 1990 and haven't worn anything else since.  I like them because they don't have any foam or rubber around the eyes and they only cost around $5.  They don't fit everyone's eyes but I guess I lucked out. My daughter swims on a year round swim team and she swears by Speedo Vanquisher 2.0 Plus and they are about $20.  Hope this helps :-)

Hope everyone enjoys the Super Bowl or at least the commercials. Don't really have a dog in this fight, but I don't like the Pats, so I hope that the Giants win. For the soccer fans in our group, I hear I missed a great 3-3 come back between Man U and Chelsea. Have a great afternoon and evening. I think I'm recovered enough to try out my calf tomorrow.

Steven, I've had good success with a couple of different Speedo models. I think the key is finding a good fit. The whole concept of staying in place without the strap around your eyes. Is there a place in your area you can try on a few different pairs and brands?

Got in a 5K run and a 2500 yard swim:

WU: 250

Main 2 x 1000

CD 5 x 50

Looking at my schedule for the week and with the over time required at work, I am not sure where or how it is all going to happen.  I think I penciled out something that will work. And, it will require me to step out of my comfort zone and use two different pools other than the one I usually use...this will be a good thing.

Using two other pools doesn't seem like a big deal but I sure did comfortable at my regular pool.  So it will be good to do something different, not crazy but uncomfortable none the less.

Thanks for the advice. I picked up a pair of speedo vanquisher goggles over the weekend, and will try them out tomorrow night.

I am glad to see that last week is finally over.  I am back to a more normal, but regular stressful week and back to working out.  I will hit the pool today.

Okay folks, my first time back in the pool since September (I know, it shouldn't have been that long - needed to de-program some bad technique habits). Not as bad as I thought. I didn't go too long, but not too short either - 1900 yards. Who wants to bet the triceps may be a little sore this afternoon? 4200 yards is way off for now. What is everyone else's training look like today?

Ken & Cynthia, don't let the stress get to you.

Whose got the first race of their season coming up?

Swam yesterday and today.  Felt a lot better today after the workout.  I would like to say that I went 5000 yds, but that would be just a down right lie.  I went my normal 1300 yards.  We need a nickname for Mr. 4000.

Finally bought some swim jammers today (Zoot Intervals reg. $44). Got them on clearance for $29 which wasn't bad. I also bought long thermal bike pants that were reg. $69.50 on clearance for $29 and apparently marked down to $12 which I had not noticed. Can't beat that. I might even ride outside now. Unfortunately, I missed another swim workout today but will try out the new suit tomorrow.

I need to buy some long biking pants myself.  The first time it got cold, I got all bundled up to ride my bicycle and went out to the garage and got ready to go.  I went one block and came right back home.  I had not put near enough clothes on.

I actually got both on a clearance rack at REI. But I just saw the jammers on swimoutlet.com for $27 but they are only in large size...I got medium.

No training for me tomorrow :-(.  My daughter's having shoulder surgery in the morning and we are hoping that's going to fix over a year's worth of pain and not being able to swim to the best of her ability.  Amazingly enough, the Dr says she should be back in the pool in 6-8 weeks with no pain!

Maybe I can fit a bike ride in later in the day Tongue out

Yesterday I had another crying mom on the phone...her youngest was leaving for college and she was terribly upset.  Not so much that she didn't want him to go but she just didn't know what she was going to do.  I shared with her that I started doing triathlons....we talked  for over half an hour.  By the end of the conversation she was so excited to start something new; coming from a swim back ground she thought doing triathlons would be great.  She had lots of questions especially about starting at her age and being over weight.

She called again today to tell me there was an event at REI and two booths with tri info.  She had another tri encounter and felt it was a sign.  She had more questions but she was so excited and wanted to thank me for sharing my story with her.  She seemed much happier with a new idea for her life forming in her mind.  Who'da thunk I could make such a difference with my experience...pretty cool.

That's tremendous.  Of course, she might curse you at the end of a summer brick workout...

I got on the indoor trainer this morning and just "wasn't feeling it."  I seriously considered stopping after a couple of minutes and going back to bed!  Then I remembered some advice from my early running days... give yourself the first mile (or first 10 minutes... some "short segment".  If you still feel crummy at the end of the first mile, you can turn around and go home.  Otherwise, keep going.  You might be surprised how well it turns out.  So, I dialed down the intensity a little and committed to 10 minutes.  I finished the full 45 minute workout and felt really good at the end.

So, whatever you're doing today, have a great workout.  You deserve one.

I think this is really good advice.  I think the second time I did a brick (ran after riding my bike ride) I just was not feeling the run and after about a 1/2 mile I thought I was going to have to quit.  But I dialed down the intensity for a few minutes and then I felt better and got in the groove and completed the planned run and felt real good afterward.

Cynthia, that is very cool! It is neat to share something that means a lot to us that is fun and good for you. Steven, great advice! There have been many times that I've wanted to bag a workout and just pushed through for a little while. Sometimes those are the best workouts of all. I like to file those under mental toughness.
