JBougher - 2012-02-05 5:33 AMBirthday trainer ride this morning. I am still adjusting to the time change so I was up earlier. I planned to ride my age in miles but the baby woke up and cut it short. Oh well still got a good ride in. Have a great day!
Happy Birthday X2!

I'm thinking about signing up for the TrainerRoad program, but I'm scared to see what my (virtual) power is. I'm guessing 30.

I just signed up for this program the other day....done a few rides based on HR and Cadence as my trainer isn't recognized ....Seems pretty good so far!! Just orderd a tacx flow trainer so waiting for it to be shipped so I can see my speed/power!! I think all in all it will be a great training tool and for $10/month can't go wrong!! Wayyy cheaper then Spinervals which I was using before but never had any numbers to work with for training!!

Just finished my long trainer workout for this week. I do it during the Biggest Loser (I find it motivating). I can really feel my bike fitness improving. I was able to put in a much harder effort than this time last week. Now I know that trainer doesn't really translate to road but I keep my tire pressure and tension the same every trainer ride so I can compare week to week.

Last week: 18.64Mi - 1h 23min - 13.48mph

Tonight: 19.88Mi - 1h 17min - 15.35mph

And I do believe this is a true representation of improvement (maybe not real speed and distance) as I really felt the harder effort tonight. I wasn't sure I'd be able to get off the trainer my legs were shaking so badly. It was great.

I keep thinking I should be on the trainer while watching it too.

Here's my question of the week, since I've been a bit MIA...and will likely be for another day or so:

What do you do to get motivated to train/race/get out there when you really don't want to? Or what gets you excited to train/race?

I'm a bit of a "jump on the excitement bandwagon" type myself. I tend to re-watch motivational movies (Without Limits, Swimming Upstream, replays of Alexi Yagudin winning Gold in Salt Lake, replay of Sale and Pelletier, I've watched that Versus TdF commercial like 500000x, etc, etc) Sometimes I also just watch sports in general. In July 2010 I was on an excitement binge between Wimbledon, TdF and the World Cup....I had some super duper training sessions because I was so pumped.

SOmetimes I put on my "Andy" jersey. (I love Andy Schleck). My avatar is my old Andy jersey. I wore my new one the day before IMLP. Ya...I do some ridiculous things! Haha

So what weird and crazy things do you guys do??

Well, I was doing well, but I just got kicked out of our company gym after 10 minutes on the bike. I guess I need special permission to use the gym in CA...

Well, (shuffling my feet) finding motivations has sort of been my problem. Over the last year and a half, I have been starting out with a bang, then some sort of illness or death in the family has stopped my progress and I get all bummed and have to get the get-up-and-go to start all over again. So.. I am not the one to ask.

Though, lately, I have two mental motivators. The first is: I look at two photos I have, one where I was in shape and training regularly and the other one is more recent. The other is thinking what all the folks I know on BT are doing/ have done. The last one works the best when I am dragging in the middle of a workout and want to quit.

Definitely something to think about..I suck at staying motivated beyond the first 3 exciting months. I really need strategies for long term motivation before it's too late!

I have found the best way for me to get motivated is to sign up for a race. I guess its time for me to sign up for a race

I try to focus on discipline instead of motivation because motivation comes and goes but discipline is a set of behaviours independent of mood.

I'm seeing my cycling and my swimming improving but my running is going to heck. I guess 2 out of 3 is better than nothing.

I try to think of how much harder it will be for me fitness-wise the longer I put off training, and how much better I will be prepared for whatever I'm training for.  I also have gained a few lbs over the holidays and past month so fitting back in my 'skinny' jeans is also a motivator!  Plus, I know that I always feel so so so much better after a good workout.

So I'm back on track this week, have been running consistently.  3 easy miles & weights are on the agenda tonight and my first long run in a long time tomorrow am.  Only 8 but I'm still a bit nervous!
