Master 1832 Elgin, IL | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 Part 2 - CLOSED I have not done it, but I have heard its a good race. The hills are a bit horrible ... the "3 " as people call them. They just switched the swim to a 1 loop swim (was 2 loop swim) and its a mass start, not sure about run. Maybe read reports. |

Master 2151 Johns Creek, Georgia | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 Part 2 - CLOSED Steve - what did you base your zones off of if you have not tested? Not 220 - your age? Do a test! Scott - IMWI is AWESOME!!!!! Swim is not fun with the mass start. I was kicked, elbowed, beaten for most of the first loop. But once I got out of the water, the rest was a cake walk. Well, not a cake walk, but enjoyable. People talk about the 3 hills, that you have to do twice because it's a two loop course on a lollipop stick, but honestly they are not bad at all. I'm not sure what type of terrain you ride on, but Wisconsin was just like an everyday ride for me. The run is mostly flat. Only one hill that I remember, that I walked. I think I walked up it faster that others trying to run it. Crowd support is amazing, on the bike and the run. The hills on the bike are lined solid with people cheering. Costumes and such, you're so distracted it'll carry you to the top. The run was lined with people the whole way. The finish line is totally cool. Do it, do it, do it!!! |

Veteran 268 Northern CT | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 Part 2 - CLOSED I'm jealous (in a triathlete short on time kinda way)...what time do your gyms open in the am? Mine doesn't open until 5:30 so I never have that much time between workout/shower/commute to work by 8:30. I would love it if just opened 30 minute earlier. Looks like clear skies for Friday (my day off) so I'm hitting the REV3 Quassy HIM bike course for the first time! Strange how excited I am for the onslaught of hills! Anything is better than sitting at my desk right now pretending to work! |

If you are at the point when you are going to train by HR you need to test to determine your HR zones. Does the BT Olympic plan use zones? |

There's a HR one and a RPE one. I chose HR since I always wear my Garmin I guess. |

There is something very inviting to enter the pool when the water is like glass. I've always found the swim area to be clean, fresh towels and not many chemicals as other pools in the area. It's impossible to swim there after work. The place is a zoo. |

I like it when my gym opens the outdoor pool (should be soon) and I can start swimming outside before the sun is up. I never understood why they let us swim outside in the dark in the morning, but at night if you are swimming outside and it starts to get dark they kick you out. |

I am a member at Lifetime Fitness, and it's open 24 hours as well. If I swim before my husband leaves for work, then I'm in the pool around 4:45-5:00 a.m., and I am the only one swimming until close to 6. |

That's the best time at my gym, right after the lunch crowd but before the after work people. I'm going to try and go later tonight and see what it looks like (around 9pm or so). I'm running in to the after work time now, so I'll just wait. |

Thanks, I'll do a test soon. That got me looking at my Garmin data and checking my averages. I went ahead and plugged in an avg for now to see what the zones looked like based on my runs. I was off by 2 zones according to that. I know, it's not exact. The other thing that struck me is my run at my Dad's house last month had an average 10 bpm lower than here. I guess sea level there vs 1mile + here is a big difference! |

We agree on a reading schedule once we have it (e.g. Chapters 1-3 the first week, Chapters 4-6 the second, etc.) and then we discuss it in sections. We just need to wait until everyone has the book. |
