Hey, gang --

First, major congrats to Judi and to Yanti for your successes (sorry if I missed other ones earlier in the thread -- let me know and I'll send kudos to you too).

Second, major thanx to Dee for de-challenging me; I am still lurking occasionally, though, to see how my friends are doing, and it seems great.  Hope nobody minds too much.

Third, in the spirit of Tgiving, I wanted to thank you guys for continuing to be so positive and getting out there in such inspirational ways, whatever way you've chosen to train and/or post!  Although my miles haven't "counted" toward any challenge, I have been working hard alongside all of you and quietly in October took my long run from 6 to 15, each week a new length pr.  My mommy came to visit and commented on how I look (you know moms, hard to tell if she was complimenting or criticizing...), and my coach gave me a really wonderful shout-out in the team newsletter, which I am happy to share with anyone interested in listening to me brag a little, which is really not in my nature but at least I didn't write it.

Although IRL I am sadly allergic to bunnies and kinda afraid of dogs, you all are wonderful.  Keep it up!

Happy Saturday!

Tomorrow is SUNDAY, the day when you report your achievements for the beginning of November! While posting your “progress report” on your team thread, feel free to brag about how great your workouts have been! This challenge is about achieving your goals -- so let's hear how you've done!

And now, here’s a quick update on what all our teams have been up to….

The Moscateers – Team1
The youngsters are showing up their parents! Comet_the_dog ran with his daughter, Dani – and lost. Congratulations to Dani, who did a 5k in just over 38 minutes! And 1for1’s daughter, Gidgetintraining, is already at 41% of her running goal and 50% of her workout goal! Go kids!

The Vigilantes – Team2
This team has a lot of “firsts” planned for this weekend! ScotinSeattle and Medusa_Ann are doing a 10k trail run this weekend! It’s their first 10k. And Fielding will be doing her very first race this weekend! Unfortunately, they had to cancel the swim portion, due to an oil spill. Good luck everyone! You’ll do great!

Turkey Terrors – Team3
Running is the topic of the day for this team. Some of it is even being done barefoot! Gygyhawk had a fantastic response to her trainer’s comment that her metabolism was low. But you’ll have to stop by this team’s thread to read it!

5 For Fighting – Team5
After training hard, this team likes to kick back with a glass of wine. Or beer. Or maybe even both…. To make sure there is no confusion as to which beverage is preferred, this team posts pics of their favorite post-workout cocktail. Someday, they hope to start a wine mail-order business.

They Who Shall Not Be Named (Twisnibbins) – Team6
This group posts so much that their team leader, LastCall2003 (Beth) must now post daily updates to summarize the discussion! Believe it or not, this group actually discussed running AND swimming this week! (Who knows, maybe cycling is next?) HCS5QA (Hector) will be running his first Half Marathon on Sunday! Run, Hector, run! To help inspire Hector, team leader Beth will be waving her pom poms!

Wild Hippos – Team7
Several members of the Hippos have been benched due to illness. Owl_girl wants to know if puking time counts as “ab work.” (We now know more about her illness than we really wanted to!) Team Leader Cat received a penalty flag for inappropriate language, and had to state three positive things about herself. Is Lyssa-gator slacking off? We’ll find out soon, depending upon whether she accepts Baowolf’s challenge of doing a 34 mile bike ride with him.

Hard Core Tri Corps – Team8
Zipp1 ran an awesome 8k race today. ACGRAY22 joined the team, becoming the 102nd person in the challenge. TriAya (Yanti) told us about her progress to date – including details of her 100+ pound weight loss, and posting some absolutely incredible pics of her HOT TRI BODY! If you want to be inspired, you need to stop by this team’s thread and see Yanti’s transformation into a “tri hottie”! Amazing!

From BT News Headquarters, this has been your weekly Challenge update.

Dee

Hey Andrew -

Everyone gets blown away on the bike. Even if you consider cycling as your strong point, you will be blown away from people who used to bike 30-35hrs a week. Just accept it.

My first humbling experience was when I got out of the water in 6th place (swimming specialist), and had people passing me at literally 10km/hr faster - they averaged 40km/h, I went 30.6km/h.

The great thing about cycling is that you don't need to be a natural to get better - you just have to spend more time in the saddle, unlike swimming where you can have a 'feel' for the water.

Good luck this month!!!

Okay, Super Corp Kids ... I posted this in the before-n-after thread and also some random enemy camp , but I wanted to share the inspiration with you guys. As the cool cats on this team from October know, I recently hit my 100-lbs-lost mark, and now another milestone: 40 lbs lost this tri season, since I've been on BT. As Judi knows--it feels weird!

I just lurked in to see what was going on with everyone during this challenge and all I have to say is Daaayyyyuuuummmm!  Good job Girl!

WELCOME, ANDREW!!!!!

Wait, you're a hasher? Oh, boy, you should fit right into this team, then.

What's your hash name? Mine is 2long2cum (also perpetualvirgin, depending on where in the world I am).

There are LOTS of great swimmers here to help you out. Post often and ask anything!

Thanks, it was actually my first has run ever so I don't have a name yet. Despite all the good things I have heard I actually had a horrible run! All the hashers there said it was the worst one they had ever seen. Apparently not a good way to start out! I posted a full write-up about it in my training log but let's just say pretty much everyone who made it back was bleeding.

Yes, I have come to accept that there are people who are going to blow me away, but i'm making progress. I feel like I could be a really good biker with some work, I have very strong legs. I just did a duathlon this morning actually and felt like I did really well. It was 13.8 mile bike (although I actually rode 14.5 because I missed a turn) and super hilly, no flat spots ever. I averaged 17.5 mph and the top guys I think said they were going around 21.5. I am very happy with keeping it that close. On a flat course I wouldn't have done as well though, I am definitely stronger on hills. I actually did a training 16 mile time trial for myself about a month ago on flat ground and I averaged pretty much they same speed I put out in this super hilly race! I will get better though, just need to keep getting miles in. The swim is going to be the hard part!

Zipp, awesome job in your race, way to push through the hard spots to beat your time from last year, that is fantastic!

GO HCTC - this team rocks!

Big congrats are owed to all!

Triaya: Wow! What a milestone - congratulations!
Zipp1: Way to go on your race! Glad to hear you're celebrating!
ACGRAY22: Thanks for the detailed race report (that's information I can use ). And I know you say that you didn't 'actually' get 1st - but regardless, it sounds like you had a great race! So, congrats!
Everyone: Looks like our team is out there, training hard - way to go team!

Hey gang,

Just a friendly reminder that everyone will need to be sure their logs for the month are up to date by tomorrow afternoon. I'll be pulling the information tomorrow night to update the spreadsheet. In addition to posting it in the challenge forum, I'll post it here so you guys can all relish in your own success, too.
Go Corps!!

Andrew, congratulations on your great du!

My POD includes stretching on the ball, the hip flexor isn't as sore as yesterday but I can still feel it. I may go to the gym and swim for a while to see if the water will loosen things up.  The bike is probably not a good idea today --at least not until the hip flexor is better.

OK very quick post in between bath-time (DD) and dinner (mine!). Sounds like lots of people have had an amazing weekend - way to go Yanti and Judi.

But in between all the cheering, I have two burning questions. What does DAYUM stand for and what is a hash race???

Same here. We may both live in southern California now, but we're Southerner girls by birth and at heart.

I'm being kinder and gentler to the body today...did my Pilates vides, a stability ball DVD and a bunch of strength training with the flex band. I think this makes a different "star" for the post count

x3 although it isn't just you southern belles who sound like that.  It comes out like that for me also if I want to be funny or if I'm not paying attention.  I did a lot of work so that I don't sound like I just came off of the farm even though I did.

I did the same thing, Ross. Although, I find that I've been away from Tennessee long enough that it's definitely creeping back. I suppose it's due to the fact that I don't constantly hear that thick twangy accent as a reminder that vowels aren't polysyllabic. LOL

Ok team -- just a reminder that if you haven't updated your logs to please do so. I'll be starting the spreadsheet update in about an hour or so.

I went out and walked today and got in 3.5 miles including my WU and CD. Pretty much all of my walk/run time up to this point has been done on a treadmill, but everything for the next 10 days or so will be on pavement to help me gear up for the 5k I'm doing with Terri on Thanksgiving Day. I decided since it was my first venture back out onto pavement to just walk instead of doing a walk/run combo. So, I just put my bunny butt in gear and walked as fast as my short little legs would carry me. I finished a 5k distance in 54:38.

Hey Andrew -

17.5 is very good on hills!!!

Honestly... if you gain your base training and then start to do some specific workouts (intervals, sprints, hills, pedal mashing etc)... you'll get over 20 no problem!!!

Hey Corps! I've updated the spreadsheet with the information I was able to pull from the logs. It looks like there are a few people who still need to update though. So, if you do update your logs after this, please either post here or PM me and let me know.

I'm attaching what I have so far so everyone can review their progress to make sure I have it entered correctly. Note that on time entries that they have been converted from minutes to hundredths of an hour to make it easier to calculate progress. Thanks!

For those who have goals that you aren't tracking in your log, please be sure to log in each week to let me know the progress you're making. These are the ones that I need to hear back from people on:

Terri - weight loss - although it looks like you might be tracking it in your log
Judi - your yoga and push-up goals
Laura - your ITBS status
Cindy - your weight loss

Thanks again!
