Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() carrie639 - 2012-09-26 12:57 PM I think it is free ... I didn't pay anything for it (Kelly did you pay anything for it?), but I have the most basic, there are premium memberships as well. Alot of coaches use it and prefer it ... I haven't figured out why everyone loves it so much, but BT doesn't allow a coach to load workouts. I also haven't spent a ton of time learning about it either. Do you guys load to both TP and BT? I pay $50 / month for a coaching membership, which lets me load workouts for people I work with. I can load as many individuals as I want. I also have the option of upgrading people to "premier" accounts for an additional charge. On my end it makes life easier because I can save workouts to a library and can do easy analysis on data when people log their workouts in training peaks.
ETA -- with my coach, we use addearo.com , which is similar to training peaks.

Worth the read? Have you applied what you read to your stroke? I am going to order some other books from Amazon and thought I'd add that to the list if it's worth it. Opinions?
I liked it. I think I'm going to spend some time in my month of off season trying some of it out. It did give me some very good visuals to work off of as to how to start my pull. I found the descriptions worked for the way I learn and process info. Is your off season after Oilman? Or after IMTX? I doubt our little library here has it because it's so new, but it could be downtown. I'm going to go check for used copies on Amazon.... Thanks! Ummmmm....... good question. After Oilman. ETA -- its always good to take at least a week or two off after every A race to let your body recover and heal. There's plenty of time between Oilman and IMTX to take at least two weeks off and in November and maybe through Thankksgiving. After IMFL, I wont be back to training until December.
Yeah. I counted back 20 weeks from IMTX and it puts me right before Christmas. I plan to take off 2 weeks after Oilman. We'll see how my body image issues do with that. I thought the 2 weeks rest/recovery was brutal with respect to body image issues and weight (I put on 4 lbs. by the end of it...LOL), and I'd grown so accustomed to my increasing activity level that it was difficult to remain sedentary and do nothing, but I'm hopeful you'll have a different experience. It was great for family, as I was able to be 100% present in the moment because I was so well rested. You'll just have to focus on your girls & wife. |

Scott, with you in particular, I think it might be a good thing to gain a few pounds post-Oilman (not a ton of weight, but a little). You want to have some weight to loose during your build phases. |

Hey...I remember you saying something about a nutritionist speaking to your tri club about eating for IM training. Did you come away from it having learned anything new? Just curious. My hubs wants me to see someone this winter regarding the fueling for IM training, and I'm not exactly sure who will fit the bill. I've seen nutritionists in the past and some of them are completely clueless! |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Yeah, we had the sports nutritionist for the Ironman Institute come out. She focused more on race day nutrition, so not really a help in the everyday stuff. I bought Racing Weight. I'm a couple chapters in. Most of the info so far I know and practice when I'm disciplined about my food intake. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So I looked at my schedule last night and I inadvertently flip flopped yesterday and today's workout. Oops. Legs felt a little dead this morning. Still kept it in the mid to upper 7s for the most part. I've been feeling sluggish for the last few days. Need to shake it. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Everyday eating for IM is important but in my opinion don't get carried away with it. I am 6'0 2 years prior to my IM I was 220 When I became IM focused with 30 weeks to the race I was 185. Prior to mt taper I was as low at 167 and I raced at 171 pounds. I eat smart with a lot of proteins and did my morning workouts fasted. I eat a bigger lunch then normal to fuel my afternoon workouts so I did not have to fuel prior to them. I eat a normal dinner being really aware of my portion sizes. I would limit myself to one goodie and one soad a week on Sunday evenings. I kept one soda in my diet becuase I knew I would be using it to fuel my Marathon. And for the Goodie that was my weeks reward for suffering As far as race day nutrition. I would do your best to use whats on the course test and train with it. If you can get it to work for you it will make your life much easier on race day. |

Scott do you do a brick or short intervals on race week. I have found out thats the best way for me to wake my legs up. If my race is Sunday. THursday I do my bike with 2 3-5 min race pace or faster intervals Friday for my run I do the same thing I will add 2 good efforts Then Sat I do a short brick 5 mile bike & 1 mile run. I have done this for years and it works for me |

My fiscal year ends on September 30th so work is crazy. Shaun is generally a mess and ignored several letters from the IRS (dealing with tax issues before we were married) so all of our bank accounts were levied and garnished this morning. Not a great week. Ton of stress. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good morning!!! Up early for lifting + short run later this morning. I'm looking forward to the weekend, as we're heading to the orchard to pick lots of cheap, tasty apples. Yum!! I started logging my calories this morning in an effort to get my eating under control. While I'm pretty good at logging exactly what I've eaten, I have a difficult time determining how many calories I should be consuming in order to lose weight. When I got my BF testing done, he said my BMR is around 1750. I am active every day in addition to chasing after the kids and cleaning. How many calories should I eat in order to lose 1 lb. per week for the next 2 months? This can't be done during the season for me because my body just doesn't work that way, so I'm focusing on this now when training volume is really, really low and caloric needs are low. Help, calorie loggers??? |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 500 less calories a day X 7 days = 3500 calories, or 1 pound/week. The tricky part is determining what you really need. If your BMR is 1750, then it would be 1250 if you did not exercise at all. But you exercise. The guy I went to basically said to fuel your workouts, so take in the calories you need for working out while you are working out. Don't store them - which is what I would do. And be cautious of how many calories you are burning while working out. Gym equipment and online calculators over estimate most of the time, buy a lot. I loosely use the calories that show I burned on my Garmin which uses my HR in the calculation. I still think that's not very accurate though. Edited by karen26.2 2012-09-28 6:56 AM |

I loosely use the calories that show I burned on my Garmin which uses my HR in the calculation. I still think that's not very accurate though. I always underestimate calories burned for that reason. For Wednesday's 3.1 mile run, my Garmin said I burned 284 calories based on my weight and HR for run. I would think that's close to being right if not a tad high. It's never right for rides, so I go by the rough assumption that 4 miles = 90 calories (I think they say it's 100, so I go lower because I'm not that big). How many calories do you burn lifting weights for 40 minutes? I think I'm going to stick to eating 1600 a day for now (adding in exercise + on my feet for most of the day). Too much? Too little? How annoying! I've never had problems losing weight before, but it's been darn near impossible this past year. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ah Jen, just wait until you hit your 40's. I used to be able to drop weight without too much effort. My Mom warned me that it gets harder the older you get. She was right, when I hit my 40's it became much more difficult. And now as I enter the later half of the 40's it's getting even more difficult. Aging sucks! |

LOL My mother is in her early 50s and says losing weight is a real PITA, so I need to enjoy my 30s metabolism. I just want to stay at 140 lbs...no losing/no gaining. Why is that so hard, for crying out loud? |
