Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Last Night I rode in a candlelight vigil for a local cyclist that was killed by a drunk driver... It's very sad - but it could happen to any of us at any time... be safe out there! http://www.fox5vegas.com/video/24520725/index.html (That's me at the end of the piece) |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Billy, looked it over. I don't have any IM experience but it looked pretty good. I noticed that you did plan on eating something post bike but I might suggest having something solid to munch on during the bike. I realize that Inifinet can give you the calories you need but 6.5 hrs without eating a solid might be much (at least for me, the eating machine). Since I tend to deal with cramps during swimming I would also have a banana (or OJ) at T1 but I don't think you have the same issue. |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Folks I am back. Sorry I have been gone so long. Seems like forever. We packed the house, went on vacation, came home, closed on the house, moved downtown,I travelled for work 2-3days each week. We went from a 4400sq ft house to a 1700sq ft loft so we sold and gave away a TON of stuff and in the mean time I was trying to get some training done. But I am back. Congrats on all the finishes. I will read and update the sheet. Lena- great on the Oly. FBP - mail the stinking form. Billy and Amy - best of luck this weekend. Cal me at 210-467-7645 anytime with any questions. Work thru the day and celebrate your journey. After you finish don't forget to thank your family for their sacrifice. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() LRR - welcome back!! Hope the move went smoothly (or as smoothly as possible). Well it turns out the Tropical Depression #5 soaked New Orleans but so far all we have seen has been a couple of showers. Did help to cool the temps down. Training is going okay. Getting distance swims in are going to be a problem, especially with the indoor pool be worked on. I have to give credit to those who get up early and workout. I rode this morning but now I am dragging tonight and was hoping to run. Hope everyone is doing well, go Amy and Billy, the count down has begun! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Another Finish Line... even though it was a "just for fun" triathlon, it counts as I did pay $20 and get an official time... btw, my number was 48 today... This is my FB status... I kicked butt on the triathlon today... what a difference 1 month & 10* makes! I was 4+ minutes faster on the bike & 10 minutes faster on the run... I'm pretty sure my swim was faster too... AND I didn't even come in NEAR last!!! It was "only" 100* today as opposed to 110* last month sheesh!!! you guys get the full scoop ![]() I carpooled with a woman who is a Recreational Fitness Instructor, Coach, all around GREAT athlete & Great person... I met her YEARS ago when she was Personal Training at the Y... she had put together a 3 month Beginners Program that I did... skip ahead about 10 years and about 40 lbs less... and we both showed up at swim lessons together - we've been training together off & on ever since... She KILLED me at the last tri by about 10 minutes!!! There was a woman there that I used to work with... SHE was the one in shape!!! We started cycling around the same time, because I remember when she got her bike... anyway, I see her at a few group rides once in a while, and I knew I was stronger on the bike... but still, I always thought she was in AMAZING shape, and I was expecting a HUGE competition from her... We started at the Beach with a brief overview from the RD about the course (same course as last month) But, there were TONS more people there today... then all of a sudden, the horn, and I started swimming... We swam under the bridge then around a buoy that wasn't supposed to be that far out from the bridge ![]() ![]() Shortly thereafter, I saw Jen (carpool lady) come out of the water, and we ran up to transition together (about 1/3 mile)... turns out I decided to walk some, so she beat me to transition, and out of transition... I finally caught up to Jen on the bike at the tail end of the 1st loop (it's a 2 loop course) As I pass, I told her she's a tough lady to catch... Then she passes me on a hill, and says "Tag" and then I passed her right back... then she passes me again, and we reach the top of the hill together, I start descending first, then she passes me again, so I catch her on the flat again (same place as on the first loop) she turns it on, and we got to transition together... what a FUN ride! So, of course, Jen is out of Transition before me, and I come running up and she stopped to stretch... so I turn to her and said, "Please help me through this run", so we walk/ran together for over half the run - there were STEEP hills we walked up then we ran the down hills - she's AWESOME... then she ran up the last hill, where I was still needing to walk a bit, then I ran the last 1.5 miles in... she beat me by about 2 minutes total... So, I'm coming back in, on mile 2 of 3, and I see the Lady that I used to work with just going out (on her mile 1) ![]() ![]() Final Time: 1:46:19 BEST Tri time EVER of course the swim was half a "normal tri" and the run was "only" 3 miles, not a full 5k... But I'll take it!! |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey all! First, congrats again do Diane!! Second, I have to admit that I am a bit jealous that a couple of folks (not to name names) have an IM this month. Sigh, I wish I was also. Third, I am finally become too comfortable in spandex. Last night rode on the trainer. Tri shorts, running shirt. Forgot my towel so took my shirt off and used it to keep the sweat spatter to a minimum. Just as I finish I realize that I haven't taken the trash out to the curb, knowing I will forget I head out the door (in tri shorts and no shirt, sweating horribly). Its a bit of a walk to the road and no shoes. Okay find my rubber boots that I wear for the pasture (mud, etc) and head out. Now here is the picture: 47 yr old guy, a few extra pounds, shirtless, wearing a heart monitor strap, wearing tight tri shorts, very very sweaty, wearing rubber boots, in the middle of the night carrying a trash bag. Luckily there was no traffic and when I did see a car a distance away I high-tailed it back to the house. Hopefully none of the neighbors were tramatized... |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey all! Just swinging by. Training is going okay I guess. Yesterday tried for a long swim about 2300 yrds into it thunder was heard and swimming ended. Headed home and got 1.5 hrs on the trainer. Waiting for a buddy to show up for another 1.5 hrs this morning. |

Not enough swimming but the bike seems okay. I will be happier when I get some longer swims/rides in but thats to be expected. Amy/Billy - has the excitement started? When are you two heading out? |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I need help/suggestions/pity? I BONKED big time on both Saturday & Sunday Rides... Both rides were in 100* heat, which I'm fairly used to... yes, I probably went out a bit hard on both rides, but that's not uncommon for me either, I looked back at logs and found that I've actually gone out harder, and was able to keep that power throughout the ride - so I'm not convinced that going out hard made me bonk at the end... I'm drinking about 1 full bottle of water with 2 nuun electrolyte tablets mixed in per hour.... I sweat a lot, but in weighing myself before and after rides, there's not a huge difference in my weight... I also munch on Sports Beans and Bonk Breaker... although not a lot of that stuff... I sweat a lot of salt - I have salt deposits on my helmet straps, and you can see salt lines on my shorts & jerseys - when the sweat dries - I know GROSS So, Saturday - I went out for 45 miles - didn't sleep well night before (not much new there) ate half muffin before ride (this was new) - at mile 41, I started feeling light headed and had to get off my bike and lay down... I was able to get back up and finish the ride - after a EAS chocolate protein drink, and I felt better pretty quickly Sunday - 31 mile ride - (ate my normal oatmeal before ride) at mile 30 - feeling of nausea and light headed... stopped and the people I was riding with said they didn't want me to continue - so they rode to the end and brought a truck back... drank a chocolate milk and started feeling better could it be lack of protein? de-hydration? just HEAT? (How come some people can handle heat better than others?) Just going out too hard (suggested by a coach who was on ride)? lack of electrolytes? Could Sunday's incident happened because I wasn't fully recovered from Saturday? I really want to figure this out... it's no fun to not be able to finish a ride... Thanks everyone! |

Diane - it does sound like your nutrition is light. First, only a half a muffin before a 45 mile ride in the heat? As for me, I rode Friday and Saturday. Friday was on the trainer but I had one bottle of Infinit and some gatorade for 1.5 hrs. Saturday, outside but not quite as hot as you but very humid (we literal ride by a swamp). I drank 2.5 bottles of gatorade during a 2 hr ride along with 3 Gu's and a oatmeal bar. That was on top of a banana and PB sandwich for breakfast. I avg 1 bottle of gatorade per 45 minutes for hot days. 1 bottle/hr for mild days. Just my 2 cents worth, hope it helps. |
