Just a brief interruption of the regularly scheduled Ironman posts:

I almost forgot to tell you about my finish line yesterday...

woke up early and rode my bike 9 miles to a 5k race... ran the race - with I think a PR... I can't find my record for one of the races I know I did well in... so, for now, this gets to be my PR

Then as it was still fairly early, I took the long way home and added an additional 21 miles on, too bad it was sooooo incredibly windy, otherwise I would have gone further... but I still finished the day with a 30 mile ride & a 5k... not bad

now back to the Ironman...

Diane - Congrats!!!!!

I am having some serious issues with the Ironmanlive.com site.  Lots of people can't get in.  Not a happy camper with them right now.

Lena - how are you tracking Amy?

Ironman.com is very slow right now....
Gary, on ironman.com, I just clicked on Track Athlete and typed in her number (674) and her stats come up;

Amy is somewhere between mile 20 and 25... come on, AMy, finish this! You are almost there!!!

Amy is an Ironwoman !!!!!!!!

Way to go Billy and Amy !!!!!

I had to get out the Kleenex when I read about the school event that they held for Amy. I am such a softie 'bout such stories.

As for me, I was volunteering yesterday at my local 1/2 Iron & Oly event. Temps were outrageous (for this part of the continent ) - over 30c by the time the run started. I had a great job - traffic control and marshal at the bike turnaround/bike finish/run start point. It also happened to be where two highway offramps came together and the entrance/exit to the hotel site where the event was being hosted. It was a veritable 3-ring circus but loads of fun. Most of all, it got me inspired for Lobsterman. I saw just how much effort everyone was giving and even the top tier 1/2 iron participants were struggling. I CAN and WILL overcome my fears on September 18th!!!

Can't wait to read race reports from our two Iron champs.

Amy!!!!!!!!!! YOU ARE AN IRONMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm SO proud of you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS again, Amy and Billy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You two are amazing and a true inspiration to me. I watched a good part of the race on live coverage and I know that it's just a matter of a few years till I'm on one of those courses, too. Thank you for your courage and dedication and being such a great example. You deserve all the praise and admiration you have and will get! Amazing. Congrats again!

Can't wait to read the race reports!

Gary, really? I can agree it was harder to get on, but I was determined to see how they were doing and I just kept hitting refresh with a stoooopid determination until it would give me numbers hehehe Billy's tracker worked perfectly and I'm thinking I'll definitely get one for the HIM next summer if they have them for that event. It was great to know how he was doing at any given point...

Amy, next Ironman, you are getting one of those, m k?

Billy and Amy!!  Woohoo!!!! Great job!  Okay you have had an entire day to recover now time for RR'S!!! Smile

Lena - wasn't working for a lot of folks.  There was a thread on the iron distance about it where folks couldn't get it.  Either way I guess it doesn't matter at this point.

Thanks for the encouragement and well wishes.  I will get  a race report out shortly.
Sure was glad to see you finished Amy, sorry we weren't able to get together and talk other than on the passing during the death march.

Hey thanks so much everyone for your support and encouragement!!!  I'm soooooo happy to be an Ironman!!
Kinda looked like a battle zone on the bike and run course...so many bikers and runners down...so I became very conservative on the bike and run because I didn't want to drop.  I wasn't trying for a fast time so I just watched the time and my nutrition/hydration.  My brother finished too!!  Yay Ironman #4 for him!!  Our good friend Phil dropped on the run and was taken to medical.  This would have been his 24th IM.  This was his first DNF ever.  My cousin Alan passed out on the run and was also taken to medical.  This would have been his first IM.  I think he is going to try again...but with a solid nutrition/hydration plan.

Billy.....it was AWESOME to see you on the run!!  You kicked my butt!!  We will have to talk about the whole experience.   I'll give you a call sometime.

Well I knew going into it and I still know...I have to work on the bike!!  I really need to improve my biking!

Hopefully I'll do a RR in the next few days.  I have had lots of stuff going on with the boys activities.

Bryan I may see you in November.  Our friend Phil is doing FL and I think my brother and I are going to volunteer!

Thanks again everyone!

Amy/Billy - in advance of reading your RR's I have been scanning through the ones that have been posted by other participants. Suffice to say, I am amazed at what you had to endure - rain, wind, heat, etc. A question - the racers all talk about lining up for the swim. Do I understand correctly that at IM  Louisville you are sent off one at a time rather than en masse or in waves?

Well, we up here in the Great White North are in the midst of a record-breaking late summer heat/humidity wave. Temp yesterday was around 37c (over 98F) when I left work and our offices have no A/C so they were even hotter. It is 8 am as I write and my office thermostat is  indicating 86F. My staff are fading bad - two went home sick yesterday and more will likely be off today. I know this would be like a pleasant spring day for y'all in the South but we aren't acclimatized!! Next on the weather radar is a hurricane, expected to make landfall not all that far from here tomorrow with lots of rain and wind forecast for Saturday. Guess I'll have to delay my planned brick until Sunday morn!!

Got out for a ride yesterday after work - 30k at an average speed of 25kph. This is exactly on my predicted pace for Lobsterman. Coupled with a good swim session on Tuesday night - 1000m timed in 24 minutes - I'm feeling a bit more confident. My goals are:

  1. to finish
  2. to finish in <3:45
  3. to finish in <3:35

Even goal #3 would have me at the very back of the pack based on the 2009 results that are posted on the web but c'est la vie.

Mav - I was re-reading posts from a week or so ago. Do I understand that you are registered to do Lobsterman too or were you just kicking my butt to finalize my own registration?

Peter

Amy and Billy - Congrats again!

FBP- wow, pretty impressive temps for your part of the world.  We may be used to those temps but we have A/C everywhere.  We wouldn't last very long without it.

Training continues to go okay.  The plan starts ramping up and will be putting in some long rides this month.  Also needs some long swims.  Time is an issue and may have to take a few 1/2 days off to get everything in.

John and Nancy - haven't heard from you in awhile!

Later all!
